When I mentioned all this I got told the players in question just had to get better.
Translation: The players in question just have to spend more real money.

In my opinion, it's no longer a war game.
It has become a farm game: big spenders farming small spenders and non-spenders, leaving the latter just two options: accept the fires or quit the game. I see more and more players going for the second option.
If it were still a war game, big spenders would attack each other.

No blame on you @Poseidon X Angel, being sandwiched between GGS and the players there isn't much you can do. You already do the best you can.
In the past there used to be direct communication (at least for a short while) between the developers and the players, but in recent years it seems the developers no longer have the courage to do so (or the permission, in which case the lack of courage moves further up in the GGS hierarchy).
That's because flaming the developers is pointless, they have their own vision and will stick to that.
Flaming is pointless indeed, but if you get a group of representative players to talk to them on a regular basis, you've got some potential. We have CMs, but I wouldn't call them representative for normal players, and they're restricted/instructed in what they are allowed to tell the other players.

In the past I was such a player in another online game, where I spoke to a game developer, a programmer, and an artistic designer on a regular basis. Not with managers or other buffer people in between. The minutes of those meetings were published in the forum, so that all players were informed. Very different with the way things are done here. My guess is that developers sticking to their own vision (without even explaining their vision) is part of the problem why players are leaving in ever greater numbers.

I think on our server the new players are probably play to pay, for free software. They are normally gone by level 20, and in ruins, but I expect GGE uses the info as new players joining to massage figures!

When discussing and posting on this thread some thoughts should be spared for the other aspect of this problems, and the current other thread on,stealing OP's.
The examples on here are bad enough when concidering atacks on your main castles, but what happens when these attacks are directed at players Ops with the real aim being to cap /steal those ops. If those war mongers, etc, etc, want your built op, that cost you real money to build up, then you have little to no chance of preventing that either short term if you don't defend, or long term if you try to, and fail.
The imbalances in the game do not favour those that try to protect a built up Op, and GGE know that, and use it, which is why they wont stop it happening. Its money, money, money to them, and with little hassle. I do think that new players should be made more aware of this fact in the game as many moan and leave when it happens, but as we all know its another issue that will be ignored.
New Players ? I have seen none lol
There are quite a lot of new players in world 1

The moderators can't even set up a call with the developers. I just don't see it being any different for the players. Also, speaking to graphic designers, programmers or developers won't get you anything, they just do what they are told to do. You would want to speak to the main designer and balancer, but that's just never going to happen.

many of them are uk 1 ruby accounts looking for more victims - there are an inordinate ammount of accounts with 2000+ day birds on the uk server now - probably nearly as many as there are active players !

The main balancer will soon find himself unbalanced when the game goes.

That not even the mods can set up a call with the developers is quite worrying, imho. I really don't envy the position you're in, as mods, yet despite the restrictions you and the other mods are doing good work, so you have my respect. :)

And for the record, the developers and designers I mentioned were in fact the ones making the decisions (together, I guess it was a smaller team than that at GGS), otherwise indeed it wouldn't make much sense, I agree.
That it's just never going to happen in GGS, is a clear sign of the issue at hand.

  • if you remember a former CM (steve) described GGS as having a very rigid management structure with the higher level aving been promoted above their ability - looks like nothing has changed !

Personally, I feel that the balance has gone the other way and the ones who are out of pocket in a war situation are those who send attacks. They send over 10k of level 10 mead troops which cost a fortune and they hit a brick wall of over 1 million defenders. My old friend who was a BM here and a great player of the game has alaways said that the game is geared towards defenders and that is true. Even if you get past the wall of over 1,200 level 10 mead defs, you have another couple of million waiting for you in the cy. Bye by attackers. It is about time they added a few more waves to the attack to try and balance the situation.

Well, yes, I think it is a great idea. Look at these reports and you'll see from a recent war on the French server:

The 2nd image is from the same war (I couldn't post all reports as it would take me all night) but you can see where I am coming from. The glory is great, but the losses after buying all those troops must be terrible for the attacker. That is why attacking/defending should be more or less equal.

It is not the point I was trying to make. The point is that those who want more defenders always get the benefit wihlst the attacker has only a maximum number of troops to use.

so when attacker can have 20 waves instead of 11 , problem is solved?  then we put 5 million defence :)

Players are capable of putting in 100k of defenders on their own if they wish, even 1 million.

You don't have to kill every last troop in a castle for it to be a victory. It's all about the ratio you get.
