PVP vs bullying

Bullying of the server by dominating alliances became a norm. Instead of enjoying exchanges of pvp glory hits as some of us (perhaps naively) expected, most if not all incoming attacks are against alliances or players who are unable responding symmetrically. The rhetoric includes “we are playing GGE rules”, or “you should join a stronger alliance”, or “go playing Big Farm”. Oh well.

Bringing up Big Farm as an alternative seems to come from those who didn’t play real survival fights such as Fortnite Battle Royale, or Apex Legends, or similar. In comparison to those GGE IS a spiced-up extension of Big Farm. Like it or not. As such, the game DOES attract many people who are inclined to build and do events, yet in a more down-to-earth environment. How much damage is seen as acceptable varies across groups and players. But future of the game very much depends on whether or not we (as a community) are able to respect and adjust to the variety of visions of what is appropriate.

The suggestion to join a “better alliance” translates as “join a group with enough big spenders to buy off certain immunity for the group”. If everybody does that, GGE will eventually become an elite-club with admission cost determined by income of top spenders or their parents.

As to the argument that existing forms of bullying comply with “GGE rules” – see the beginning of the letter. Exchanges of pvp hits or wars between equal players or equal groups would be fine, but it’s not where the game evolves. I hope those who determine the “GGE rules” realize that the niche of survival fights is already occupied by Battle-Royale type of games. Attempts to follow that path are determined to fail. If GGE is supposed to thrive in the coming years, a more balanced concept of the game is needed.

Don't worry.  The way GGE is making food production and storage, you will soon be able to hold 100k Defense in every castle......

Unfortunatly GGE over the years have systematically devalued PVP in the game.

In the early days you had to keep your Glory rank high so you could build the best troops ie KG troops.  Which realisitally meant weekly PVP was required.

From the moment GGE brought out the foreign invasion and decided that it would be a glory event, that need for PVP dissapeared overnight as all of a sudden it became significantly easier to gain glory hitting static castles rather than PVP where there is always a very real risk of hitting massive support.

As the new glory ranks appeared and with it the new troops, this effectivly made all capitals worthless, as better troops were easily obtainable now for pretty much everyone.

Next came the massive food production increases.  when metros came out food production was very low so each metro added between 5-10% more food in each green castle / op,  for most players, more for new or developing players.   So they were a big advantage.

Now with massive food inflation metros are barely worth having from a food production point of view.  now for many they add less than 0.5% food per castle.  so are pretty much insignificant and certainly not the advantage they were.

So in a nutshell GGE have made it so there is nothing of value worth fighting for in PVP, there is nothing in the game that you can gain in the game by doing PVP that you cant gain in Events, but in events its 10 times quicker easier and cheaper, with much less risk.

There are now no PVP tourneys, becasue GGE thought it easier to bin them than find a way to stop the cheating that went on in them.

So now we are in a situation were food production is so high so many defenders can be now held per castle  that sending 3000 troops at them is totally pointless its not going to even make a dent.  So all that means is that people who still do PVP are going to be selecting weaker and weaker targets, to avoid getting totally destroyed.

Unfortunatly until GGE take steps to rebalance the disparity between attack and defense, then they make it so PVP gives players something that no other event does, be it a new kind of bonus akin to glory that can not be manipulated by hitting defense packed shells.  or until they give us something in the game worth fighting for, ie new capitals or metros, or something else along those lines.  Or at the very least comes up with something to make it worth while again.

Its a real shame as its unlikley that any newer players will ever get the experience of that moment when the screen border goes red, and have to act very fast to stop your castle going up in flames.  Or that moment of stalking a player watching his patterns waiting until he went offline then striking, wondering if he will get back on line to change defense.

Now we get red borders every 2 mins during shapeshifters, If we even bother to look its just another 32 troop hit coming in and even if it is a decent sized attack its not really worth changing setup as nothing is lost anyway.  or its another collection event, that no one ever bothers to defend.  So we are that used to stupid Faux hits and the total lack of real PVP in the game that excitement / anticipation is gone.    Which is a real shame.  As it really was the thing that made the game special.  Unfortunatly I guess it didnt make GGE enough money or it wouldnt have been de valued the way it has been.

The addition of heaps of food has made the game more enjoyable and a lot more healthy for people's mental state.

At the same time, it has caused very large balance issues, and doesn't fit the current fair play meta's.

I feel as if players were to change their stance on mass attacks, the PvP aspect could be saved to a certain degree, but every large alliance is still very capable of defending a full mass with leftovers for rounds 2 and 3.

@Philt123 (GB1) totally agree with your comments - I remember red flags causing panic and the sense of achievement when i successfully attacked and won against a supposedly bigger player - there seems no point nowadays - not even to retaliate as the people sniping at us lower alliances always are from the top 20 so  would have 1,000's in support !

I agree with you Phil on this....but sametime why do people play it so much for little reward in fls....like hitting tin cans with a toy gun.

Off to shop for some beer.

  • Because the FLs and BCs offer easy glory, individual rewards and alliance rewards, and are tied to LTPE, Tourney, and the Kingdom League. With that being said there is no reason to not hit them.
