Solutions for World map lag due to Flash Player update

Hi everyone,

So - as you may have noticed, over the past few days, there have been quite a few problems occurring with lag - this was caused by an update which Adobe released for Flash - which meant that GGS' servers were taking about 5 times as much data as normal when you were in the world map screen - and this impacts all sections of gameplay.

Unfortunately, this isn't something which GGS can resolve at their end - it is an integral part of the game which cannot be changed sadly.

As many of you may know - Adobe flash player is gradually being discontinued - and the switch to HTML5 is being done because of this - as flash is being discontinued, they may well release updates which hinder the use in order to push developers to stop using the software.

I have collated various solutions below - I've tried to make them as explanatory as possible - and I hope that they resolve your issues

I've ranked each of them in terms of ease of instructions to follow and best solutions to the problem in the following table as well for your convenience on finding the solution right for you:

Ease of solution
Reliability of solution
Maxthon Browser
Directory Solution
Separate Flash player
Separate Flash player
Flash previous version
Maxthon Browser
Directory solution
Flash previous version

    Separate flash player:

    1) Click on the download link below for your OS in order to download a separate flash player, which download on your computer. [Clicking the link will automatically start the download].

    Windows
    Mac OS

    2)Open the file

    3) Select "Run" to open the Flash Player.

    4) Select File-->Open and in the window that appears paste this
     https://media.goodgamestudios.com/games/empire/goodgameempire.swf

    5) Click "OK" and Empire will start loading!

Hopefully this will work for you and remove the world map lagging which you've been facing!

Disclaimer: Any action in-game that would usually open a new window or tab (buying rubies, clicking the forum or support buttons for example) will open a new browser window outside of this flash player. In the case you are purchasing rubies do not worry, the rubies will be added to your account as usual.

If you use this solution - you can see more information about making it much easier to use on a regular basis HERE!

    Directory Solution

This solution can only be carried out by the administrator of your PC - so make sure you are using an administrator account!

    1) Open the following files, depending on your operating system (I can only provide screenshots on how to do this on Windows)

    Windows OS

    C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash\mms.cfg

    Mac OS

    /Library/Application Support/Macromedia/mms.cfg

You can open this easily by opening Windows explorer and pasting the relevant section from above here and hitting the Enter/Return key:

If this file is available to you, then you can edit it with the notepad editor for Windows, which you can select like this:

Then click 'Ok' and various programs will pop up as options, you need to select 'Notepad' like this:

Click OK, which should open up a new Notepad document with two lines on it already and add the following two lines:

    EventJitterMicroseconds=1

    TimerJitterMicroseconds=1

Finally, save the file with those lines added by pressing the keys 'Ctrl + S' - and hopefully you'll be good to go! If you get the popup 'Access is denied' then you're not the admin on your PC.

If the cfg - file is not available, then you can create a file with the name mms.cfg and simply insert the aforementioned lines. The aforementioned lines/values are set to 0 by default and in order for our solution to work out as intended you would have to insert the aforementioned lines.

We would like to emphasize, that said issues are currently not happening to all of our players, so a configuration is only recommended if you are experiencing the currently known issues/lags.

We hope that this solution will help you! We deeply apologize for all of your difficulties that were caused by those lags.

    Use the Maxthon Browser

PLEASE NOTE: This is not a Goodgame Studios endorsed solution - that is to say, you follow this solution at your own risk!

However, this is a very simple one to follow - you just have to download and install a new browser, and you should be good to go - please let me know if you have any problems with the game while using this browser:

You can download and install it here: http://www.maxthon.com/mx5/

You should be prompted to follow the installation wizard, which should guide you through the installation process.

    I hope this helps!

Uninstall flash and reinstall an earlier version

Please note: This won't work for chrome, as chrome auto updates if using the latest version - if you want to continue using chrome see my next post below.

    1) Uninstall the existing version. If a new version is installed, you cannot install a previous version. Use the steps provided in the following Adobe docs to uninstall Flash Player.

    2) Download the installer for the previous version of Flash Player HERE (https://fpdownload.macromedia.com/pub/flashplayer/installers/archive/fp_29.0.0.171_archive.zip)

    3) Extract the zip file. The zip file contains the installers for all the supported operating systems.

You can do this by right clicking on the file in Windows as shown, and selecting 'Extract all'

Which will open a window like this, you then just need to click 'Extract' or select a folder then 'Extract' (this stage can take a little while depending on your PC)

On windows, you should be looking for a file which is called something like this in the folder which doesn't end with _debug out of the two folders extracted:

    flashplayer29_0r0_171_win

Double click this file, and complete the installation!

For more information see the following Adobe Docs:
Hopefully this will resolve the issue for you! Good Luck!
