Right now both those things are almost worthless.

My suggestion:

The time for freely completing a building depends on the keep:

Keep L.1- last 10 min. free
Keep L.2- last 15 min. free
Keep L.3- last 25 min. free
Keep L.4- last 40 min. free
Keep L.5- last 60 min. free

Alliance help decreases build time by 30 minutes instead of only 5.

This would be a goodwill/ PR move after the disaster of Sumarai/Berimond glitch.
Don't take my insults seriously.

I'm quite high-strung.

    Too much.   Putting fires out after an attack will take 10mins even with lag.   Even 30mins for lvl5 keep is too much.

    You want a goodwill PR gesture after the many fiascos GGS has dumped on us?   Give players a gift of rubies; not troops and food we can't overstorage.

    By level 70, when you get it, the average upgrade costs 10+ hours...

    ^This, how about they allow us to recruit troops more quickly? Those who load up on premium troops will continue to do so as they are vastly superior to coin troops, but the regular ppl can't keep up:/

    Or instead of having them increase free construction time you can do something even better! There are these great things called robber baron castles that give you time speedups that you can use to speed up your building constructions. They also give you resources, equipment, gold, rubies, and experience! It's a great resource to use and you should try it!
