Minimap

Many RTS games have a minimap. I think GGE could benefit from having one as well.

This could be a function of the search bar. It would pull up a big rectangle of the world and would have functions of a player search or an alliance search. Buttons along the side would zoom in and out. For instance, going into green map and typing in MISC on the alliance search would pull up every MISC main, OP, capital, metropolis, monument, etc. each color-coded. Same deal in Ice, Sands, Fire, and Storm. Typing in Kingdom of Neph would show all KoN mains, RVS, capitals, etc.

This would really improve the game. Lets say there are two enemies both 500 ish miles away give or take 5 or so. You dont know if they are neighbors, 100 mi apart, or 1000 mi apart. A minimap could clear this up.

Lets say you only wanted to search mains in fire for a certain alliance. In fire, pull up minimap, search the alliance, then uncheck the boxes by rvs, capitals, etc. until only main castles are highlighted on the map.

Not a bad idea in all fairness, would take a lot of work to do on gge's part so doubt it will ever happen but would work well and improve the game a lot if done right :D

I say just add more bookmarks.

The minimap would be more of a search feature. On a side note, yes, more bookmarks would also be helpful.

    It's a great idea! It'd really help.

It is a good idea as people wouldn't have to wait for the whole map to load.

The concept is a nice idea... but for example:

Australia server population vs the world map size (green)
Blue arrows indicate world corner limits.
Blue "box" is the actual population estimate.

    http://prntscr.com/7qofm4

Now the picture shown is a pretty large "mini map".
There is a lot of ground to cover, GGE's world map is too big compared to other non-MMO RTS games.

If this example were to be made smaller (so it actually is a minimap), it would be very hard to mark anything interesting on the minimap.

If it were to be a "world overview map".
Then the presented example can actually be more helpful in placing POI (points of interest) and maybe a click-jump to those coordinates.

Buttons or a slider on the side would control zoom. The user could reset the default as just being on the relevent part of the map. The zoom could be further adjusted once the user searched a player or alliance.

I agree that due to the size of the map and the intended purposes, the traditional idea of a small box in the corner must be abandoned. A function of the search bar that put the minimap over the screen would be needed.

Well, they have it in GG Galaxy, shouldn't be hard to add to here. :)

I just don't want it to take up the screen, maybe put it in the quest book. Because there is way to much stuff taking up my screen these days.

It would be a button of the search bar that you click to reveal the map. You'd have to be trying to find it to see it.
