    That branch is chemistry to be more specific.

    Clever code, an elemental cipher. I don't see how it relates to vertical groups though.

    How many clues did you use? Vertical groups was just a hint towards the periodic table as each vertical column is called a group.

    I presume each symbol correlates to the number that it shares a computer key with, then the numbers correlate to letters, the problem is that different keyboards put the symbols on different keys.
