  best outpost combination is definitely 3 shiny food in the end.
  
  and the best defence setup is different for every attack

  The best combination in my opinion is
  Food and wood
  Food and stone
  Food and wood or stone (Wood is good for building tools)
  
  Also the best defense at higher levels might be 50-0-50 or 100-0-0 or 0-0-100 but that depends mostly on the attack and the type of tools, castellan, soldiers you have and other factors, that also changes depending on the attack of the enemy so don't expect something to work for every single attack. Learning about how the battle system works will help you a lot when receiving attacks to plan strategies.

  ok thanks for both of your responses. thanks for the in depth response jade ok so when i can capture outposts i will be sure to look for shiny food.
  
  also is it possible for someone to give me a in depth of how the battle system works? its fine if you cant i'll find out by myself but it would help if someone could tell me.

  iwhen i log in my account i cant open my messages simply today i lost twp villages and i cant see who had stolen them and thats ally irritated me
