I'm disappointed that people don't explain the problem to the poster. The problem, dear sir, other than me being an arrogant pomp, is that soldiers eat food. Every time you recruit soldiers they use up your food. The more soldiers you have at your castle the more food they will eat. So when you have so many soldiers that they are consuming more food than you are producing, then your food number turns red, to warn you that if you don't do something about it, your soldiers will desert. What can you do about it? The best thing to do is send your soldiers into battle where they'll hopefully die a glorious and honorable death. Or you could build more farms and upgrade your existing farms. You can improve the efficiency of your farmers so that they'll produce more food (and the rest of the workers in your castle) by improving the public order of your castle by building decorative items like the pillory, inventory or the sign post. You could also message a higher level player and ask them to provide you some food until you get your shortage under control. All of the above are probably a good combination of strategies to take to ease the strain on your food supply. Hope this helps.

I understand all written above to the other poster, but I am wondering how my food stores entirely disappear overnight? I can have thousands of food stored for more than two days supply, be either red or black, and I log in the next day to see a message that my food ran out and my men deserted. It does not show that I was attacked, but that would be separate from a desertion anyway. Thanks.

Right, let's say I have 2000 food. I have a -200 food production per hour. How long will it take before soldiers desert? 10 hours.

Theoretically, you can have the maximum amount of food stored (80,000 with certain exceptions), and it can be gone in under a second. You'd need to have millions of troops, but that's not the point. The point is that it's to do with how much food you have produced, and "thousands of food" isn't a factor.

If you're saying that you did the math and it should have lasted longer, maybe you forgot to calculate something. If you station troops at a castle, it won't count all of the troops in the overall production/consumption values until the troops arrive. If you see "Used up in: 2 days" and then more troops arrive, that value will change. You need to take in account troops on their way as well (unless they're support troops from other players - they consume food from the player that sent them).

Hi Bob, thanks for writing me on this. I wish I had a screenshot to show, but here is the scenario usually. I am about to log off for the night. I have no troops being recruited, fighting or moving to or from my castle. At the top it will say the food production is X and consumption is Y. If I am red then it will tell me it will run out in Z hours(or days). If it is black, then of course I am increasing. I always log off with at least 2000 food to cover me. But then I log on the next morning and it is all gone and my men deserted from lack of food. So if the food should last me days, where did it go in only 6 hours when everything else is status quo when I left?

Hope that helped to clarify and thanks again for helping.

I love groundhogs. And I love days. I haven't decided if I love them together, tho? :D

You have 2000 food you say. But you didn't say how long it says before it's run out when you go to bed (hours or days is not precise enough). How much food you have when you log off is only half of the equation. What really matters is, how much food you are consuming per hour when you log off and how long it tells you until it runs out. Like Bob said, if you have 80,000 food and 80,000 troops, your food is not going to last the night. If you have 2,000 food and you have 300 troops and they are crossbowmen, macemen, bowmen you'll need to be producing 600 food per hour if your food is going to remain steady. You take the amount of food you are producing and subtract it by the amount of food you are consuming. So let's do a hypothetical scenario:

At the time you log off you have the following food stats:

    Producing: 100/hr
    Consuming: 600/hr
    Food amount: 2000

    100-600/hr = -500/hr.

    2000 / |-500/hr| = 4 hours. or put another way -500 X 4 hours = -2000. 2000-2000 = 0. skull and bones

In the above scenario your food will be used up in 4 hours. Now what, actually, is your scenario?

Hi Grotug. Thanks for pitching in. I thought I explained it well enough. I guess not. Sorry. I look at the little chart at the top. I'll use my current one for example.

    Producing: 235/hr
    Consuming: 143/hr
    Net is GAINING 92/hr.

I have had food disappear even when I am gaining when I log off as well as losing. But even when I am losing(I don't have the exact math here now of course), but it said I would run out of food in 2 days. So when it says it will run out in two days, how does it disappear in 6 hours? Does food stop being produced when you log off? As I stated before, I have absolutely no troop movement in or out of any kind while logged off.

PS...I like your opening comment. lol

    :)

If this is indeed the case, you need to contact support immediately and copy and paste your last post into the body of your message to support. If you can supply pictures of your food stats along with your complaint that is always helpful. It sounds like your account is buggy, because, no, food does not stop being produced when you log off. Nothing stops when you log off. Everything continues as if you were logged on. Seems like there is a serious bug in your account. Good luck! Hopefully GGS will compensate you for the unfair losses you have sustained.

How long has this been going on for?

I have been playing for about 3 weeks. A month at the most. It has happened 3 times. I figured the world does not stop moving because I log off. Thanks for reassuring me of that much lol. I'll start taking screen shots nightly before logging off to try and catch it again. And I will save the system email they send me telling me it happened.

I was originally thinking it might be shadows hired by others. I have never had enough money to hire them so I don't know how they attack. Sounds like a noob I know, but I'm still learning.

Have the mill at level 2 already but no bakery. But that will just give me more food per hour right? Won't help with it disappearing when I should already have an ample supply.

    But thanks. :-)

    Bakeries decrease consumption.

Let's say you have 500 food produced per hour. You also have 500 food being consumed per hour. Get a bakery, and now you've only got 450 food being consumed per hour.

At level 1, bakeries are marginally better than flour mills. At level 4, they're incredible. I definitely recommend them, although you should have a flour mill alongside it.

...but that doesn't solve anything if it's a bug. Screenshots to support will help, but getting another building won't because it's not just a normal food problem.

Exactly. I have taken a screen shot last night, but today I woke up and all my food and men were still there. I will screen shot before I log off every night to catch this. Would prefer it never happens again. But bugs like to multiply. Love how the bugs like to get into my food lol.
