I have seen this on when I go to attack is there a way I can increase it for myself?

Well, you will have defenders on your wall automatically, you can change the ratio of ranged to melee in your defense settings page. There are no tools to increase melee defense as there are for ranged, but you can equip your commander with equipment to increase this statistic.

What are you trying to figure out exactly; how to change the ratio of troops on the wall?

no when you espionage someone it tells you so much range defense and so many melee why cant I see it in my defense setup?

I think you're talking about the bonus to melee defence strenght (shown at the top of the screen with a little sword and shield with a number above it?) If that's what you're looking for then the only way to increase it is with equipment for your castellan.

you do have "lime bomb" from nomad camp. it will increase you melee defence by 33%.

Melee defense, not melee offense.

Lime powder bombs increase melee defense. I've used them and they are awesome. No way to counter.

Did not know that, my fault. I guess I thought I remembered them being an offensive tool instead.

No worries, the whole melee increase is a new thing a lot of us have to now deal with. I have a feeling one day a melee tool will come into play, and then things will drastically change..

They do seem to be heading in that direction. At least in the latest Thorn King, there were more powerful tools of this nature.

I remember you could get your melee and ranged soldiers up to +580% combat strength when attacking in the event, bit extreme, really.

Yeah, but I doubt they would put those kinds of tools in the game. More just for the thorn king, but it does seem like we are moving to some sort of change in terms of tools, and perhaps some being added.
