Swordsman

Am i the only one who never bothers with the swordsmen. Their attack and defense strength is just 30 odd making them a useless defender and attacker thus making them a complete waste of food and coins. Should goodgame not just scrap the swordsman and introduce a more usefull soldier. Even as a low level player i always knew they were a waste of time and never bought them.

    well they are coming out with a vet swords men. if it has like 130 defense and 130 attack it could become useful

    I really doubt they will make it stronger than the existing veterans. And they are useful, as a martyr wave to get rid of npc's tools. It's helpful for the nomad tents.

    My guess is that the vet swordmen would be as strong as 2 handed sword

    Not quite, a two handed swordsmans stats are what 30ish allround, and they take 10 minutes to make 5 of them at half the cost for any of the other guys. They will probably increase the stats to 80 or so alround and increase the money to equal the cost but the time will probably take 20 or 25 minutes. That would still make them worthwhile, since they do not take as long yet still pack a reasonable punch all things considered. They would not make them equal to the two handed swordsman, otherwise all you would have to do is build one handed, then you would have your defense and offensive in one breath.

    The swordsman has only one stat that beats every other unit: recruitment speed. And if you plan well, you don't need to take advantage of its slightly-lower-than-bowman-and-spearman recruitment speed.

    There are two advantages to swordsmen.

    1) Recruitment speed
    2) Food Consumption

    Swordsmen can be useful. Even though they are weaker than mace and spears, they have a lower upkeep than both of them combined. Because 1 spearman and 1 maceman = 4 food consumption, but they are only good at one thing, defending and attacking. A swordsmen is average in both, and therefore with 3 food upkeep he is actually pretty versatile.

    too many people making use of swordsman, so lets make it costlier to build and let the time be same :-) (gge logic)

    Good for you, don't make because they are a bad waste of food, try vets or level 4 or 5 barracks troops. Im a level 40 player and have only bought 10 0f them, to complete quests, so just don't buy them.

    Nah, archers are cheaper, so i use them. they are also faster :)

    Really? Archers take just under 3 times as long to build, and as I'd only use them for tool cleaning towers the speed makes not a great deal of odds (because there are always wooden tools thrown in)

    I'll still be using swords unless the vets have a much longer recruitment speed. Hell, I won't even research the vet swords if they have a much longer recruitment speed.

    Agreed, I can make 5 of them in 2 minutes, and that's a really fast way when I want to attack desert fortresses quick

    I'm going to research them only if GGE makes an achievement. Otherwise, I'll just continue with my other research.

    i think it would be fine to have swordsman only that they should be able to perks such as giving them more power when they attack against other castle

    they should be able to have weapons such as fire swords or swords that are poisonous

    A sword contaminated with dog faeces would be quite effective. If the wound did not kill the soldier the resulting infection would lol. Only joking but swordsmen do need to be updated to something better and it seems goodgame are doing this with the planned Vet swordsmen

    If it has food consumption of 4 and around 90-90-90 Id use it for sure. But if it has 5 food consumption and 80-80-80 stats I prefer keeping it nonupgraded to make it stay as cheaper cannon fodder

    ^ He means faster marching speed.

    I think they should be midified to be like the Archer, but for an attacker. They could be OK at attack vs. melee and ranged, like the Archer is at defence. Right now, however, they're terrible vs. late-game melee and ranged in offence and defence, giving them no real function. A veteran Archer would also be nice.
