So a game like Evony that initially gives a 15 minute warning that maintenance will be occuring, before giving a countdown the closer to maintenance happening, is oviously giving every online player at the time an advantage to set up attacks, but wouldn't that also allow players who would be on the receiving end to change their defensive setups, if they are online at the time?

My point is it would be impossible for the defender to get themselves online while the downtime is occuring, but the attack would continue to travel to the opponent and potentially land during the downtime.

So why not set during the countdown to maintenance, that only attacks on NPCs are allowed, or as Crusader pointed out, shift troops and or food around? That way troops are being feed.

Because that will require a lot of coding. Plus attacks that are already currently sent out to other players will still land. It is good the way it is. Players could get a little bit of food in their accounts, I don't know if they do or not but I haven't seen anyone complain about troops starving while they are doing updates.

@BM ang1243 thanks for your response. A generated message with link to forum, with estimated length of maint, IMO, would be of benefit to the many who do not regularly scroll through forums
