I can help you with the First question No one member one horse and only so many horses allowed at one time into the meadow. See horse meadow upgrades to allow more horses at once. -

Display issue. Any horse training in the Riding Circle will just disappear. If you hover over it, however, it will state that a horse is training there. Equally, it suddenly will reappear now and then. -

You win them competing against the horses of Big Farm characters. Just click on the Competition Transporter (Jeep w/horse trailer) that's on the horse ranch to move your horse to the competitions. Good luck! :) -

Yes, it really doesn't cost you anything to train and have your horse compete. But, it can be a bit daunting. My level 30 something horse is having problems getting out of the silver league. -
Why doesnt Storm Compete?
I bought myself a Storm Horse, but when other people challenge me, it always defaults to another of my horses ( not as good ) even if that horse is in training.... Why doesn't Storm, my best horse ever get used for this?? -
