Re: in-game advertisements: "...I know you're as excited about this as we are!" Really? Of all things to be excited about this would not be one of them.
Hmm, I read that line as an expression of understanding that the players will NOT be excited about the advertising, and others feel similarly.

Kamilcom, thanks for sharing your experiences and impressions. This is disappointing news. I have truly enjoyed this game. It was a wonderful way for me to step into a world that was challenging yet completely on my terms--unlike the real world.

I have been playing on the periphery this summer and checking in to see how the newest updates are coming along; however, with this new 3rd-party advertising update, I think I'll cower and limit myself to the Forum.

I sincerely thank all you who are brave enough, or of the mind set, to carry on.

Will having videos on the game make the game run slower?

What if some of the advertisements are for another game and people leave Big Farm for the new game? :S

I'm guessing that the new mystery boxes will be included with the rewards for watching a video. I don't know for sure....just guessing based on the text. :)

I think that will be a Yes!

The last update make the game a little slower,
As the game is right now, it sends my CPU to hard working, try look at these screen shots:
This first picture is a screenshot where I have open 2 browsers: Opera, and Google Chrome, but both only on their start page, and I also have Adobe Photoshop running:

    cpu1.png

Now I have start my us farm in the opera browser:

    cpu2.png

And now I have start my skn farm in Google Chrome:

    cpu3.png

Wow, my cpu use 92% of it power for running Bigfarm in 2 browsers at the same time.
I think that explain why computers much older than mine have problems running Bigfarm?

    Three short questions:

    1. As the movie theatre can only be played for those who login trough the official site, does that mean that all linux players would not be able to use this feature?

    2. One of my coop mates wants to know in what format would these videos be?

    3. Going to security issue concerning flash: I suppose that these videos are delivered from a third party. How is with the security. I trust that GGS would not try to hurt my computer, but is there any check preformed that we wouldnt get something harmfull through these third party videos. Sorry if the question sound to paranoic, but I just want to be on the safe side.

    1. I don't think it would make any difference if you're playing on Windows, Linux, ChromeOS or others, but that's one of the big questions we'll have to figure out :) Also, one of the reasons why this is seen more of a test than anything we did before.

    2. I honestly don't know. I would guess it's .swf streaming, but take that as an educated guess ;)

    3. Our partners on this are trusted advertisers, we don't expect any problems in that regard.
When I begin playing Bigfarm 2 years ago, I was happy it was a game without 3'rd parts advertising. :)
    [...]

And now, GGS also want to bomb us with 3'rd parts spam ;(
I look forward to this new addition with much concern, both because I do not want to be bombarded with advertisements for all kinds of junk

And that's exactly what we don't want to do either. That's why we took great care giving you the option to watch these ads at your own leisure, there will be no annoying popup spam or intrusive videos if you don't want to see them. Yes, if you would have asked me a year ago, I wouldn't have expected this addition either, but if there's something I can vouch for when it comes to the Big Farm team, it's that we will try to put as much care and love into this as we would for any other new feature :)

I'm kinda ok with this kind of advertising if it lets the game get some more funding. :3
It's quite nice to offer a reward for watching ads. I'm impressed, normally when games do this it's something ridiculous like "watch this 3-minute ad that will infect your computer and fill out these incredibly personal 30-minute surveys to get 2 cash shop cash". :'D

Yeah, and I'll stick to my guns when I say: We really don't want that either ^^

Overall, we'll have to see how this goes. I'm optimistic this is actually going to be a feature you're going to like in the end. I'm of course aware of how the feature description sounds to some people, and I absolutely understand the concerns. But don't condemn the whole thing yet :)

Anybody remember the care and love that went into the update for the market? Days to sort out that mess.

There is nothing that can get me excited about 3rd party advertising in a game, and as much as I like playing BF, depending on how this goes (and dear heaven I hope I'm not a test player) it will be the end of the game for me.

WOW! Latten I am shocked at this and I didn't think GGS could shock me anymore.

I've been playing BF since the game started and played the original farmer game for 3 years before it shut down. We have always been told that GGS would never do any type of advertising as that wasn't something this company was interested in. What happened??? I know you said that a year ago you never would have guessed this would ever happen, but that means you have known about this for awhile and would be aware of our concerns.

I just truly hope that with this kind of intrusion GGS will truly listen to concerns and problems when this update occurs and maintain the option for not watching if not interested as there are many other options people wish to opt out of and the company has not listened to requests.

Nice to see some new things added to the Island to maintain our interest. :)

I won't lie, I didn't expect this either a while ago - I totally remember being the one who said that exact thing you mentioned, and I hope you won't hold this against me now.

Of course we will listen to your concerns and feedback regarding this, and we also will have to see if it's worth any intrusion for us. Of course, we have our share of worries as well: Will players like the feature, or will we scare them away? Will everything work out from a technical perspective, will all filters work, will it be worth the hassle in the end? But to do that, we have to be at least willing to give it a chance and see how everything works out.

DuffyPoo, of course I didn't mean unintentional bugs or technical issues, I was talking about incorporating features into the look and feel of the game, and giving an equal amount of care to small and big new features alike ;)

What I would like to ask GGS is to "enable getting friendship/welcome center coin thing" as a reward from this new feature too. watching some videos or such and supporting GGS in exchange for those welcome center prizes(such as friendship meadow) is sth worth considering imo and very encouraging for players too(regardless of being a gold-buyer or free-player even).

If you're honestly serious about this point, then scrap the plan to put it in "TV" window and pushing upgrade reminder outside, as this already is intrusive and potentially anoing. Find another place for it which is truly out of sight for a farmer, or at least implement a switch to allow to go back to upgrade reminder. If the rewards are interesting enough, and the system works reasoneable enough, players will seek for it themselves without this intrusion.

There are other, more game related "reminders" we asked for but hit deaf ear of GGS. To mention some: Garage tractors timer/shortcut, Silo event "permanent" timer on the screen, "flag" of neighbours comming etc., which would greatly increase the comfort of playing. No need to push on us this video thing in big constantly visible spot on the screen. Our playing screen already has some mostly meaningless reminders taking up space, like "number of friends" or "my name and avatar". Don't need more of such.

Erm...... while we are talking about it ....... give us a switch to hide top and bottom panel also, so that we can enjoy playing field without these obstructions ........ :):)

If you don`t want to take part, you just don`t start the video, so it doesn`t sound too bad....Will wait & see if its as simple as that, but if it is I can live with that.

Scissors ! :) Since when do you advocate useless "reminders" blocking your view of your beautifull farms or things more important for the game? :):):)

Btw what you say stands to reason but is not the point at all. I already ignore some silly stuff on my screen. :)

But ok, then let me give you a beforehand information to your market analysis:
If it goes so bad as I fear, I'll leave the game, and never come back again.

Hi Latten. The worrying aspect of this is that there are some very young players in this game, which is great as - up to now - it is one of the safest games available for that age group. You will know how tempting it is for youngsters to click on something in-game, and you will also know that there are professionals who spend their whole day infiltrating sites via adverts.

The games site I had problems with is a really well established site, and I had many months of trouble free gaming. The hackers managed to get past both the games site security and my security system. As I said, I had to do a total clean of my computer to get rid of the problem. Unfortunately I am STILL getting e-mails from very unsavoury people (I can send you details if you wish, but I really dont think you would like them), and unfortunately these e-mails are sent from contacts of mine (they are not, but their names have been stolen from my contact list and posted to me as being from them). I am having to go through my list of contacts and asking them to change their signature when mailing to me so I will know that they are the proper person. THE ONLY PLACE THESE PROBLEMS COULD HAVE ORIGINATED FROM IS THE ADS FROM THE GAME SITE. I do not have facebook, twitter etc and I am the only user on this computer. I really do not want young players in particular to run the risk of encountering very inappropriate material.

What I am basically saying is that, no matter how secure your site and the players computer, there is always someone who manages to sneak through.

I really hope that the planned addition of ads DOES NOT HAPPEN. I am not trying to scaremonger, just telling you of my very upsetting experience of in-game ads.

I will add that I did not click on or activate any of the ads on the game site so the perpetrators had a very elaborate set-up. It is a very scarey thought that this could happen here.

I'm sorry as exciting this new update might be. How about fixing the problems left over by the roll back. I still haven't got back the gold I purchased. I reported it got a ticket number used it. Got an e-mail which I answered and included the receipt number and still nothing. May I remind you it has been 3 weeks now. The dam roll back stopped me from getting a duck coop, not to mention other things I wanted the gold for. So how about we concentrate on fixing old problems before we create new ones , PLEASE.

Yes, the client version is the same in both cases.

You're actually accessing the same directly with this link. However, we would not recommending using this direct access method, unless used in this special case as a Linux workaround.

Edit: The update will start shortly.

Please take not that video ads are not activated at the same time for all servers. It will take some time to finish the complete rollout and you may not see videos right after the update but rather later today (CEST).

Thank you Latten for the "working on it". At least, I know they have not fallen into the cracks. "Your cheque is in the mail" :D:D:D

I would like to suggest a permanent thread in the Technical Bug section where we could have a list of ALL bugs, maybe with an approximate ETA on them. New ones could be added and fixed ones, deleted. So we would know someone, somewhere is aware of them.

I like this idea also. With all the numerous bugs, glitches, and odd happenings these days, I believe a thread of this sort would be very helpful. May cut down on the multiple threads listing the same bugs too.

Brian--I'm with you on the personal e-mail thing! If GGS sells my e-mail address to anyone I will be extremely upset.

If I'm not terribly mistaken their privacy policy states that they won't share our e-mail addresses or personal info. Stating that and then sharing them anyway would be against the law as it would be lying, if I'm right? ;o
So I don't think we need to worry that they'll give our addresses away, especially since it's not safe to do in the first place, there is no point to jeopardize your customers' e-mails with junk. Because then they can get viruses or hacked and no longer use the e-mail, can't retrieve accounts if lost, and will just quit playing because the hassle and mistrust would already be too much to just bother starting over. ^-^

I would really like to see this too, would save a lot of unnecessary support requests too, so the more individual ones could be answered faster.

From the little experience with 3rd party adds in other games I can tell that it was always some hassle. 3rd party advertisers didn't keep the format, pushed in impropper content, the game didn't award what it should have, the add was 20 mins long, the movie froze in the mddle and on and on. To make it a bit more nightmare, 3rd party is often not just that only, but 4th and 5th party involved, often turning bug fixing into a burocratic dead end road. The game maker nearly always blames any fault on the 3rd party, not ready to fix it quckly, 3rd party on 4th party .........

Yet the other games, where I experienced it, were more stable and bug resilient then Big Farm is, also much less intrusive then GGS is. The movie was just hidden somewhere in a specific building and one only came in touch with it when chose to visit that building. Sometimes you didn't even have to build that cinema. :) Truly voluntary. Could have left it there for months and it wouldn't bother me with a single "reminder".

So I think, applied with a game as bug ridden as BF sometimes is, and a game maker as insensitive as GGS often is, this could turn out to be a real klller. :) Better direct your steps with caution, dear GGS. :)

Please be cautious with this GGS, I do not want inappropriate ads, bugs, computer problems, security issues, etc. We already have enough bugs and problems in the game! I hope that you have done some testing on this somewhere BEFORE this comes out to your players!

I much prefer Kamilcom's suggestion of a separate "building" or other place for these ads rather than our
TV build screen. I'd like to keep my build screen just as it is. And please if you do this, make it somewhere where we can still play the game while we watch the ads--like a drive-in movie! I also do not want to have to open something to see it and then have it take up my screen and not be able to continue with my game playing. I'm here to play the game, not spend all my time watching ads. But, if there is say another little TV type or movie screen in the bottom right corner-added to the list of what is there, it could have a there's a movie ready on the front, then it's my choice if I want to click to watch it to get the rewards WHILE I continue to play the game. I do hope that these ads will be very short though. You tube has lots of ads and most are very short and give you a skip button to use too.

Please add timers for the tractors!

And if we not get these advertisement by that way, I fear we'll be spammed in our personally mailboxes from companies to who GGS have sell our email adresses. :cursing:

That form market analysis, I will call suicidal revolver policy.
    - Shoot first, and afterwards ask the body "do you the like this product?"

But ok, then let me give you a beforehand information to your market analysis:
If it goes so bad as I fear, I'll leave the game, and never come back again.

Thanks Brian. Please do not block our games like this! And DO NOT GIVE MY E-MAIL ADDRESS TO THOSE SCAMERS OR ANYONE ELSE! I do not need or want any e-mails from the advertisers or any computer problems!!!!

Well, end of my list for now. Will have to see how this goes.............

Latten says: Of course, we have our share of worries as well: Will players like the feature, or will we scare them away? Will everything work out from a technical perspective, will all filters work, will it be worth the hassle in the end? But to do that, we have to be at least willing to give it a chance and see how everything works out.

So is this game safe to play now or what? not feelin it from either comment!

Of course it is. We're filtering advertising offers, there won't be any inappropriate ads showing up, if any.

I'm sorry to those that lost mission time but the update was announced yesterday. It came around the same time as always, too so I had absolutely zero problem timing my missions. =)
Not entirely sure if it's greed to apply updates to the game and try to keep it profitable, it's not a charity afterall, it's a business.

I'm kinda sick of how every time people make mistakes that are their own fault because they can't read announcements, suddenly the game and company are "disgustiiiiing" and "disrespectfuuuul" and every other negative-to-the-extreme word in the book. There was seriously ample time to prepare this time, excuse my language but get over it already. You people sound like you would whine no matter what happens, and often you DO, judging by how the forums look with every update.
