Horse family tree: Fact or story?

Kamilcom (GB1)Kamilcom (GB1) Posts: 1,499
Family Tree

Genealogy is an important part for breeding horses. Therefore you should keep track of your foal's roots.

Is this statement from horse breeding anouncement just a fiction story telling introducing the new update, or does it actually have any practical importance? Exactly for what purpose is it important to keep track of horse's roots?

Applogies if I overlooked this question being answered in one of many horse related threads. :)

If you read the text in the get a quality two horse, it talks about breeding Arabians and Mustangs... That, and the test you highlighted there, are why I include "Keep track of your horse's family tree" in my many posts on Horse quality. Unfortunately, there is no hard evidence to support the claim that a wider variety of Original Parents is better for breeding quality. Its all supposition... BUT one more piece of circumstantial evidence... It would explain the need for a 'set free' button. 10 shoes... get a new horse... wrong parents? Set free... 10 shoes.... get a new horse... etc.

By that you mean text in task on the left side?

Otherwise I'm quite well aware of these theories from older threads. And the very lack of any substantial support for them is one of the reasons why I am asking this question, seeking for some solid information. No horses are designated as Arabians or Mustangs in the game. It's just horses of different colour with no other specification or even suggestion that they differ in any other way then colour. The in-game tree only goes down one generation. All in all, these sentences sound like a story telling background, talking about non-existant features in the game, just making the introduction a bit more colourfull.

I'd like one of the moderators answer the question and provide more then just guesses.

Btw: the reason for setting horse free can very well be for example messed up horse before one learns how to do it "right", like breeding unequal horses, or just being bored with jack of all trades horse and wanting to focuss on horses with better specialisation atributes, or wanting to exchange "standard" horses for those from Horse market later in the game etc. But that's another story.

Yes that's what I meant, the sidebar task.

I don't however agree that your reasons for setting a horse free are worthwhile however. You can't mess up breeding and training so badly that its better to start over. About the worst breeding and training you can do is breeding two level 0 horses, and getting 0 benefit. That is exactly the same as buying a new starting horse. Now the market is a different matter, but unless you have been successful breeding horses (gotten one to lvl 40 at least) you won't get to buy horses, at which point you will get offers for horses half as good.

Sure, if you buy a couple lvl 0 horses, and then realize you should have bought from the market, okay... but if that was the primary reason for the set-free, it would have most likely been un-implemented until the market.

And if you are holding your breath waiting for a Mod to confirm or deny something that seems to fall under the "Its more fun to figure it out for yourself" category... I'd stop. :)

The reason for "release" button is secondary so will not delve into explaining. Sooner or later, one way or the other, one day it may be needed, for different reasons.

All I want is a clear and concise explanation of anouncement, if one of moderators is knowledgeable enough to be able to provide such information. :)

If that statement is just a story telling, then we can speculate all life and get nowhere. So that would be a good starting point, to get clear answer to original question. :) Personally I tend to think that it is just that - story telling with no real meaning in-game. Also that there is no Arabian horses, no Mustangs in-game either, just horses.

The question I asked is extremely simple and straightforward and should be easy to answer. Unless the moderators themselves have no clue what that sentence actualy means. :) Let's wait and see. :)

The part about the importance of geneology is, sadly, just a little addendum to add a bit of story :) The family tree is just for you to check your personal 'horse history', so to say.

If I have understand you correct, this means the family tree do not have any breeding effect, whatever we're talking about raise in breeding quality or any of the other effects
    - og in short words: everything is just a random?

Thank you Latten. And I can most probably safely asume that the aspect mentioned by Yokoska, Arabian and Mustangs horses from the sidebar task are the same - little addendum to add a bit of story. Meaning there is no performance difference between horses bought in Stables. I'd appreciate though if you could confirm that one too, just for final clarification.

I think you can count on aspects specfically mentioned as having influence, which is mainly levels and atributes with quality already reached, which goes down exactly that one generation. In other words, direct parents "work" for the coal exactly as described in anouncement. Some with precise calculations, like levels, training reductions or number of atribute slots, some with randomnes but better chances when certain criteria are met, like quality.

No, apart from (of course) the spent training points and differences in the shown values of horses (by that I mean balance, speed etc plus bonus points and all that jazz) all horses are pretty much the same. There's no difference between, let's say, a brown horse and a black one.

Thanks again for confirmation. Of course the question was about stable horses in their "zero-everything" original condition before any training is started. :) This will save some players a lot of speculation time. :)
