Convert Houses to Gold Houses?

Say you regret not building houses with gold, is there any way to pay to convert a regular house (level 5) to gold? The reason being for happiness rating. I see that at some point I'll remove all decor yet I wonder about production expenses due to the happiness rating. Can a player actually have a farm making profit after its fully developed without the gold houses? I visit farms of the highest ranking and all the top players have gold houses/barns.

    When fully upgraded.........
A blue barn has 1850 storage compared to a red barn which only has 800.
    A blue house = 32 workers & -95 happiness, whereas a regular house = 30 workers & -145 happiness

If you had 12 houses that happiness saving of 50 per house is 600, so yes it can make quite a difference, but thats also 12x all the gold upgrades too.
To demolish a level 5 regular house, you need to have 30 available workers, if you don`t, you can build a blue house 1st to get the workers & then you will be able to remove the regular house.
Removing all your decorations will indeed send your happiness meter into the red & production costs wayyyy up & no you would not make a profit on that farm. Usually when people do that, they are making a profit on the other 2 farms that pays to keep the factory farm running. You will work out a balance that works for you.

You can not direcly convert regular houses to blue houses (or tropical houses/winter houses)
The only way is to demolish the regular houses and instead build up another house type.

And yes, it is possible to run a farm succesfully withouy gold houses (or other special houses), I have done that myself until we get the tempoary farms.
Now I'm slowly working with change out my regular houses with island/winter houses... It takes long time because there all the time also are other thing my builders are busy doing (islands and horse farm, and architect)

Maybe the island/winter house also could be an idea for you?
they don't cost gold, but shells/runestones, and they are a middleway between regular houses and gold houses.

thank you for the tips, and doing the math for me! If I started the game over I sure would do things differently but I'm too invested now. Think I will begin to replace the barns.

Thanks for doing the math for me. so I have two red barns level 3 and 5. If I begin a blue barn up to level 3 I should be able to demolish the level 3 red barn, right?

I can't build a blue barn with 2 red barns. If I demolish one of my red barns to buy a blue barn, and my barns are at capacity, what happens to all the items stored in the demolished barn?

As far I know, nothing happen with the products you have stored in your barns, if you demolish one of your barns.
    - but of course, when you use something e.g. corn to make chicken feed, the storage of corn will lower with the amount you use to make feed.

But until your new barn is high enough in level so the total capacity is higher than what you have in storage, you can not storage more than you already have in the storage.

You can earn a lot of money without those blue houses.
Only fields and buildings on the highest level (with architect) wil earn you a lot of money.
So when you remove youre deco's, do it slowely and upgade everything to the highest level.

They stay untouched untill you collect something. Than you have to sell the overflow.
