In my 'answer', I made all the grapes, mangoes, oranges, and peacocks that I got for free first. Thus their shells are no longer required. Then I made up for the extra shells from the Star and Flips. So I don't need to make 4 flips, only two. Your way is the poorer choice, because it places all the need to make shells on one item, rather than making extra 'shells' along the way in many different areas. But nice try.

Edit> thanks Volty. I was trying to ignore their personal insult, because they resorted to the same thing the last time we had this sort of disagreement, but you are right. A bully should be called to task for their tactics.

Thank you very much for this detailed account of your journey, Yakoska! I have enjoyed it immensely. I appreciate the time and effort that went into keeping records & sharing them with the community here. And Volty is right - the rude posts full of negativity are sad to see. They say a lot about the people making them. But they in no way lessen the value of what you've shared with us. Thanks again. :)

It is questionable that the pearl deco could have been obtained without use of library books (ie use of gold). I found that not using gold in any form led to being about 3 million shells short at the end. That is infuriating to get so close and know it is due to GG$ gouging design, not any lack of hard work on my part.

I think that Tripple2 has a valid point in that the amount of effort documented goes far beyond what even a hardcore player might like to put into a game. He/she might have expresssed it more diplomatically :)

It can indeed be done without gold. I followed Y's strategy through the month very closely. I simply let him do all of the logging. I had no library books and I have received the Pearl at 50 million with several days to spare. Is it hard to do? YES. Of course it is. But should it draw the kind of vitriol and criticism above? No. Of course not. I remain firmly grateful that Yakoska decided to take on this project and thank him.

Is it reasonable of GGS to design something that takes such extreme attention to achieve? I would say it is a bit much to expect of people. Also, the 90,000,000 reward (also labeled a "hard work" reward) does seem firmly out of reach without gold. I promised to disclose what I spent. I will total that up (I kept a tally of transfers) and log it in shortly along with some hints of what I think GGS could do to easily make the island more hospitable.

    Dollar Transfers:

Prior to getting the bank to level 7, the investments are in the neighborhood of 10 million. Once getting the island bank to level 7, I have made exactly 90 transfers at 2.5 million each or 225 million BigFarm dollars, and I have 1.5 million left on the island farm at the moment. My main farm account is exactly 70 million below where it was the day it started (at one point I was down 80 million so a surplus of 80 is needed for this project), so I generated well north of 150 million on the main farms during that time frame. I never used any "gimmicks" to up my main farm cash such as selling inventory or demolishing things. I am not putting those efforts down, just noting that I haven't done any of that. I probably would have if needed. I would think Y's number has got to be a good bit bigger than that. So clearly only the biggest of farms with the deepest of pockets can attempt this run at 50 million shells without gold.

The Island ends in 2 hours. There will not be a way to check, if I am not there at the moment it ends, so it looks like I will end up with just north of 54.8 million shells in a 29 day event, current rank is 42.

Very nice, Gavin! With a bit over an hour, I have 60,118,646 shells. No doubt due to the library books. I still have another round or two of oranges and a fizz cooking, and of course I haven't demoed anything, since I've been using Omar to upgrade.

And full disclosure, I did rush my silo yesterday, after setting it to run for 32 mins, instead of doing 8 minutes increments to get my Mangoes started earlier. Cost me 22 gold. Pure punishment to spend it on something so stupid. Still, I end up well within the 120 minimum gold any player would earn over the course of the event. But anyone wishing to invalidate my efforts based on that, feel free to do so in your own heart. :)

    edit> forgot peacocks.

Re-edt> I earned 196,000+ from the auto demo and remaining money (5 mil).

I had enough seashells to buy a decoration. I have about 390,000 seashells left. Will I lose those? When the trader leaves will I lose those seashells? Thanks Or will they be available when the island comes back?

Your seashells are yours to keep until you spend them.

The Tropical Island farm is one of 4 (so far) temporary farms that are part of a bigger event. They start to appear when you reach level 30, but are actually aimed at much higher level players & most players would suggest that it is better to wait until you are more like level 80 before opening one..... They are very expensive & use up time & money that level 30 players should be using to build up their main farms.

When there is a temporary farm running, it lasts for a month & is accessed through the airport. The Northern Lights farm started a few days ago & its possible the Tropical Island will be the next one.

What Nannsi2, and Runswivscissors posted above is good advice. If you look through my posts here, you'll see I spent hundreds of millions of farm dollars. There are some other good guides around for 'minimum effort/maximum seashells/runestones' just type "Island Farm" in the forum search bar, and click through the threads, if you can't figure it out from the title.
