Horses - Is a 45 always a 45?

I have noticed when challenging people in the higher leagues that some horses seem to have dropped to a lower level than mine, but they still whoop me everytime, so it got me thinking, if you....

Breed a couple of 13s & then 20s, then 30s etc & end up with a level 45 horse

or you...

Breed up to level 30 & then breed it with your 60 & end up with a level 45 horse

... are both those 45s going to perform the same or would the 2nd one be a better horse disguised as a 45?

Has anyone done this and found that their lower level horse wins just as much as its higher level parent did or does it now lose more often?

If they have both have identical attributes and br effects, I believe they will behave exactly the same way as far as challenges are concerned.

And about the competing of high with lower lvl horses, I can only share my personal experience. A mediocre brLvl 20~ 2nd gen horse pitted exclisively agaist higher level horses has gotten me a win rate that I am happy with, gold V and good amount of horsehoes.

Pretty sure it's a difference in effects, which do not show in the BV. If they're running "one trick ponies" - buffing one type of race only - then a different type of race might give you the edge.

I notice on the odd occasion my level 38 horse has beaten a 40+ level horse it has won me a lot more horseshoes. Working on breeding my low levels until I get some good effects. What I need to know is what level do they need to get to before it will let you keep two effects, and when I finally breed my two higher horses what level do they need to be to allow me to keep 3 effects???

From the Dec 11th Announcement ....

    • Each horse can have up to 6 breeding effects. How many effects can be applied is determined by the amount of breeding effect slots it has.
    • Depending on the average breeding value of parent horses, different amounts of breeding effect slots are created for their child.
      • Foal breeding value 10 or higher: first slot is created
      • Foal breeding value 20 or higher: second slot is created
      • Foal breeding value 35 or higher: third slot is created
      • Foal breeding value 50 or higher: fourth slot is created
      • Foal breeding value 70 or higher: fifth slot is created
      • Foal breeding value 90 or higher: sixth slot is created

I don't think it's anything to do with how you breed, it's the attributes of the horse.

A level 45 horse could have all three attributes at 45. Or... it could have Show Jumping at 65, and the other two at 25. If it also had 3x Jump Power +10, it would be amazing at Show Jumping, and would indeed 'whoop you everytime'!

I guess the ideal would be to have three different horses, each good at a different discipline.

I absolutely agree with you, but what started me wondering was players with horses higher than mine, that suddenly had horses lower than mine, that were still whooping me like the higher one did. Unless they just decided to retire their higher level horse, I thought maybe they had back-bred it.

I also noticed an interesting comment on another thread last night, that suggested the foal might keep the same number of effects as the parent, which had me wondering if you bred a 60 & got a 45 would the 45 still have 4 effects instead of 3? That would definately account for the things I have seen. Now I just need to find someone thats done it to find out lol 8|

What's more likely is operator error - since the system doesn't "remember" which is your horse to use when making a challenge it's easy to hit start before the right pony is at the gate! I've done it, friends of mine have done it. Oh those head-bang DOH! moments!!

I don't think the ratings mean anything on any given race. I just lost to 5 straight races to lesser horses who were posted as having a less than 15% chance to win in the details after the race. The statistical odds of that occurring are .0000759375:1. I really don't understand the race structure at all.
