May I ask your horse's level?
I wonder how opponents are chosen. Can't be totally random when someone is being challenged 45 times.
I have had over 50 too, my noticeboard has been on 50/50 since yesterday and the bottom ones just drop off the list, so no idea how many I have really had.

So far, I have been challenged 226 times. In that time, I managed to challenge others some 50+ times.
For now, I win far more than I lose, but as I'll climb up the league the win/loss ratio will no doubt change.
At this point losing costs me nothing, but as soon as I enter the silver league, for every loss I will lose 1 ranking point. In platinum league, every loss costs 4 ranking points, the same amount you get for a win.
Nafaru says: "As I already said, the penalties, especially in lower leagues, are not something you need to be afraid of. If you win every once in a while, you will be able to make up for your losses easily."
I'd say the penalties are indeed something to be afraid of if you can be challenged five times more than you can challenge others.
Lets take the most average horse possible. This horse wins exactly 50% of the time (that is, wins, then loses, repeat infinitely)
Day 1: Bronze: Fuel 100 to start, 48 buyable (without gold), 24 refilled. Or 14 challenges a day. (we will lose the .3 and not factor it in later.) Wins 7 (21 pts), Challenged 70 times, wins 35. Meaningless for ranking.
Day 2: fuel to start: 4, 48 buyable, 24 refilled. or 6 challenges. Wins 3 (12pts) challenged 30 times. Still in bronze.
Repeat 18 times.
Day 20: 61 wins (244 pts) Challenged 610 times, wins 305 (still meaningless)
Day 21: Wins, loses, wins advanced to Silver with (252 pts)
Day 21 Silver: loses, wins, loses (+2 pts), challenged 15 time, losses 8 (-8)
Total for day: 246
Day 22: win 3, lose 3, or +9 pts, and then 15 and 15 for -15 pts, or a total of -6 each day here on. Yep. That's a recipe for disaster.
If you are challenged 5x more than you challenge, you would have to win somewhere near 2/3rds of your total races to make headway. in silver.
4 of 6 = 12 pt, and losing 10 of 30 = +2 a day.
7 of 12 (over two days) = 21 pt, and losing 25 of 60 = -2 a day.
I assume, being europeans they are thinking each ladder rung should have half the number of the one below it. Because that's the case, then roughly half the horses should be in Bronze, with roughly 1/4 being in silver, roughly 1/8th in gold, 1/16th in platinum, and 1/32nd in Diamond. If that's the case, your challenged 5x the number of challenges might be right on the money.

5 times 31.1.
2 times on 30.1.
Once-bred horse (when the quest asked to combine 2) that's been leveled to 20/20/20 (again, as quests directed).
I've set the same horse with as the challenger to all the competition areas, and while challenging others I've noticed there are lots of people with 1-15 breed value horses. I seem to get challenged fairly little, and I wondered if it's because others do what I do when challenging:
If I get 3 opponents, one of which is 20, one 22, one 16, naturally I pick the 16. I usually get competitors around my breed value or lower, but not much higher.
Guess what I'm trying to get at is maybe it matters if you have a higher breed value you get less and less challenges because due to the amount of people having under 20 it's not likely people choose you from the challenges until the other 2 options are also in the same range of your breed value? ^-^
Like it'd get even less and less as your value gets to 30, 40 and so on.
I apologize for the long post, this update seems fairly complex to me so far and I couldn't find a shorter way to put it!~
p.s. I forgot to mention I'm in bronze 3 with 112 points, not sure if that has anything to do with the challenge amounts or not!
Maybe more people use my strategy of challenging the hardest opponent on their list first? I have since adjusted it a little. When I was getting mixed silver and bronze opponents to challenge, I challenged bronze, because they wouldn't lose anything. Lately though I haven't had that option. So I'm back to the highest rated. I know its a bad strategy... at least I think I know it is... but I like the "no guts no glory" method.

PS> I lost to a breeding value 2 horse today that challenged me. I am not facile with screen shots, but the owner was Floryna and the horse was Florin, and the odds for winning were 2.03%
January 31: 2x
February 1: 0x
Because I have to restart my pc every single time I want to challenge another horse (just refreshing/rebooting doesn't do the trick always), which I refuse - I don't want to shut down the pc and restart it again, costs to much time/energy - I do not compete much myself.
Maybe that's the reason...
Several of my coop members suffer from the same problem
Hang in there! Hopefully things will be fixed Monday!

Out of 42 challenges, lost 17, few of them were weird based on random flip of coin - losing to horse lvl3, whn your horse is lvl48 is silly (that's about 3or4 losses in 17).
Didn't count how many I challenged - a lot, as I recall , lol
Did lose a few and Im at lvl1 of bronze league, shy of some 20points to be at bottom of silver
Seriously though, its they way they want it. They want you to be active, and challenge people a lot, so challenging is the only way to win ribbons. Otherwise a lot of people would get ranking points for doing nothing... and while they are willing to compensate you for being challenged (golden horseshoes) they really want the prizes to go to active players.
