Fun. And rewards you get from completing tasks. It was promissed that later on horses are going to become more benefitial. But without the how and when :).

Which begs the question, why should anyone do the horse farm? yes there are rewards (very minor), but other than that and a diversion (very small) what are the benefits right now, I see none. Actually I do, one, I now have a horse that is named after a childhood horse i had

Thank you both, so it is just a bit of fun with a whisper of reward to come, maybe.

Well another benefit is you get better horses (Not higher level, but better because they train faster and have special abilities). As long as you are careful and breed correctly :)

So when I bred my first couple (Peeta and Goldy), one of them got deleted but the horse gained some benefit. I clicked on the button to breed and then Rose's comment box turned green (indicating I had fulfilled the task). But Peeta disappeared and Goldy remained with 1+ Strength. Then another horse popped up as an option to buy. So did I do a mistake? Not clear as to what happened. I didn't click "set free" either.

You lost both horses, and got a new horse named Goldy who is faster to train. All new horses are named Goldy until you rename them.

As mentioned (multiple times all over the forums), when you breed two horses together, they are no longer able to race or be bred. They are put out to pasture. You are given a new horse (named Goldy to start) who has the average stats of the the two parents, possibly has a breeding effect (If you waited until both parents had at least 10 average stats), and is much faster to train than either parent.

Because the parents were put out to pasture, and you only got 1 foal. You now have a free slot to buy a new horse for 10 golden horseshoes (this new horse will also be named Goldy until you rename it)

Okay. That makes sense. It was the fact that the previous new horse was called Goldy and the newest horse was called Goldy. Gotcha! Thanks for clarifying. I guess there are so many forums about the same topic, it's hard to find the answers right away. So I just looked for a recent posting with the fewest posts to review.
