Advice for Gourmet Farm

Hi
I'm lvl 34 & really struggling with the gourmet farm, can just about keep the goats fed, ducks & donkey occasionally (please don't report me!) orchards once in a blue moon, & got the bakery going twice!, was thinking of putting in another field (have 2) but looking at the nursery that might be the better option in regard to duck feed, any advice would be great so that I don't have everything snoozing nearly all the time!

Not knowing how much time you have, I'll tell you my way, but I'm on the farm pretty much all day!
I grow dandelions all day. A couple of hours before I go to bed, I put in barley. Then I put in lamb's lettuce to go all night.
Bear in mind that donkeys aren't top priority, in my opinion. You only get dung out of them and occasionally the ship asks for them.
If you're in a co op, then concentrate on goat milk and duck eggs, but see them as an added extra, not your main source.
The bakery, I tend to use it if the ingredients are there. Most of the time it lies idle.
    Hope this helps.

At level 81 now, things look a bit different. I have 6 ducks, 1 donkey, 3 goats, 4 gardens, 4 orchards. I could have more, but I haven't been focusing on this farm.

The bakery works all the time. It's busy all the time. The mill is idle some of the time because there's enough feed.

Mostly the g-farm works for me as an assistant in winning missions and helping the co-op with projects

Each farm, when you first start them, are always a struggle. The hard work, paying off later.

It important do decide what kind of G farm you want, and what works with your online schedule (Goats are like chickens, you need to be online a lot. Ducks are like cows, they require less hands on work. Donkeys are like pigs... more or less useless except for the ship and sidebars). The Bakery can run on Main Farm products to start (Apples and Eggs) so those should be doable, and should be done if your Co-op has any of the research done on selling turnovers.

The biggest thing is don't expect to find the perfect balance early, and don't get discouraged. The G farm is a little trickier balance than the Main. I would also, as a "Take at your own risk" tip, suggest you NOT build a G Farm Silo or Composter until after your G farm is up and running.

    Good luck.

Thank you all for your advice, I did build the silo & composter, but have since demolished them for the space, & I will try the layered growing.

AwesomeGail, I am sorry to say this, but I think you have started your gourmet farm too early. Your main farm is pretty weak at this point in time, you need more chicken coops, cowsheds and apple orchards if you want to be able to use the bakery. It is obviously up to you, but in my opinion you need to further develop your main farm first, before you can concentrate on the gourmet farm. And don't start the flower farm yet! :-)
Sorry to be a bearer of bad news, hope things will get better for you soon! :-)

I'm level 34, I don't see a point growing barley, focusing solely on dandelions and lettuce, for when I'm away. Instead, I buy barley for the mill, to get the extra dung and to a lessor extent to have donkeys on hand.

    Hi

I had the same issue and it was so hard 2 keep up with everything so I didn't worry about the donkey 4 a long time cause I just couldn't and cause the ducks and goats where more important so I would say instead of growing the barely just buy it cause it is only $50 which is fair cheaper than the dandelions, and lamb's lettuce.

Also, yes definitely add another garden there will b a side task that will ask you 2 have at least 4 gardens all 2 a certain level so adding the garden will help you in the future if you can add 2. I would not do the nursery cause both the barley (which I personally buy all the time) and the dandelions will only give you 1 or some times 2 special seeds each time and you can easily grow more than that in the 7 hours that it takes 4 them 2 grow.

As 4 the bakery the only thing I have 2 say is that it is very important 2 have plenty of production 1 so that you have all the goods that go into making bakery goods but also so that you have enough dung 2 make fertilizer.

I struggled with keeping the bakery stocked as well so I added a second peach orchard and a bunch more apples, and chickens and I am able 2 keep it well stocked and running apple turnovers all day (no exaggeration here) without running out of eggs or apples. I like 2 run them cause they are the most profitable and I have only upgraded my bakery 2 level 3 and I am level 88 almost 89

I had struggles when I first got the gourmet farm, although not as early as you have. I only got mine at level 36 or 37. I didn't add the bakery until level 38. I am now at level 40.

I think I have only just now arrived at stability at the gourmet farm. You can probably see my thread titled "New Bakery" for some tips I was given.

For me, I focused on getting the feed and gardens stabilized before giving the bakery much attention. I did add a silo, because I wanted to put that dung to use for my almonds and peaches. Still struggling with the peaches, but that is really the only produce that is low for my bakery's inventory, and it is rising. I plan to add another peach orchard soon.

Now that my feed numbers are maxed and I have feed queued for many hours for each feed, I am able to concentrate on maxing all the items of the bakery inventory. I don't run the bakery all the time yet. Right now, I run the bakery when one of the items overflows from the barn. I quickly check to see if it can be transferred to the bakery. If not, I run a batch of something to make room. The two items I do that with is my eggs and the apples. I only have 2 apple orchards, 1 duck coop, 2 cherry orchards, 1 peach orchard, 1 almond orchard, 1 cow shed, 2 goat stables, 1 donkey, and 3 chickens.

One of the reasons I didn't get the bakery right away is that I wanted my barns full first. And then have a little cash for gourmet farm upgrades. Although I had a lot of questions when I first got the bakery, my stock was high enough I think that helped for everything to smooth out quickly.

Before I got the bakery, I noticed I was selling a lot of eggs. So, I dumped all the stock of eggs from the barn in the bakery immediately. It took almost no time to fill the barn with eggs after I transferred the lot. Yours might be different if you have a lot of milk producers or several of one of the orchards. I still only have one almond orchard, but it harvests frequently, so that is why I think adding another peach is a priority over the almonds for my gourmet farm.

Having said all that, I think the best plan is to keep evaluating what is working well and what you need to fix to make everything run smoothly. I don't think I had the best plans to start with, but I learned to quickly make adjustments because waiting too long can cause a bigger problem to clear up. I took in a lot of advice, then visited other gourmet farms of people no more than 7 levels above me to get a more solid vision of what I needed/wanted to accomplish in a few levels.

Thank you Cheshi for the advice, I'm now at level 43 & still struggle with the gourmet farm, although it is much easier now, I opened the flower farm & that has been fine, no problems at all, so now I think I don't have the right strategy for the gourmet farm.

If you are still struggling, maybe it would help to do what I did and stop running your coops/stables/bakery on the gourmet farm until you get a lot of feed saved up. I maintain the feed on my main farm between 800 and 1050. That's for the cow, pig, and chicken feed.

So, my goal for the gourmet farm is to grow the feed to 500 for the goats, donkey, and ducks. Right now, I only have enough feed for about three days for all three, but I know it took me a while to build up the feed in the main farm. The main thing is that if I can keep the feed producing, then I never see the red Zzzs.

I only have three garden plots I use all the time, never letting them be idle. I keep dandelion growing almost every rotation, usually 2 of the gardens, because dandelions are needed so often and take such a short time to grow. Like on my main farm where corn is sowed frequently. Then I keep an eye on my numbers and grow barley in all the gardens for a rotation or two. Same with the lambs lettuce. Always making sure there is enough in stock for whatever feed I need to get numbers up for running the mill. I never let the mill be idle. Don't have to worry about the money because it grows faster than I can spend it.

I do use the nursery because timing is everything. While sitting at my computer, I can run dandelions every half hour. But when I am away from the computer for hours, or sleeping, I want to maximize the time away, so those half hour seeds don't yield as much. I don't want to return and have only 30 dandelions produced while I was away when I can have 300. If the captain takes some of my dandelions and makes my numbers too low, I can sow the special seeds in one garden, add humus and not think too much about it for several hours. I won't run out of feed because I keep enough stock to last several days without running out. But I have to produce enough of the grain for the mill to keep running something, alternating with the different feeds. That's how I was able to max out the main farm feeds after I was given advice to keep the feed at max.

I'm doing that Feast for a Good Cause on my main farm. She keeps asking to donate my eggs, apples, feed, etc. Normally, I don't panic because my stock is kept high. I just have to get the numbers back up after each donation. I took a nap instead of restocking because I know that won't be a problem before the captain arrives by using both regular and special seeds along with humus, if needed. I like these book events better because there is no race against the clock, so I do every one and enjoy them.
