If - next time the temporary 4th farm comes around - you do NOT unlock the airport, and consequently do not travel to the island -> your ship WILL sail after filling the 4 first loads!!

So: it is a choice! Go to the island and have the ship require 6 loads, or ignore the island (not open it) and the ship will require "only" 4 loads.

Thats interesting Jiesta, I hadn`t heard that before, where is it from?

Jiesta is right, RWS. I've seen it elsewhere in the Forum from players who didn't unlock the island. They fill the 4 slots with their regular goods and the ship sets sail without any exotic fruit.

We know that if you have never unlocked the island your ship sails without requesting tropical fruit. But do we know what happens to those of us who have already unlocked the island when the event comes around next time? Will our ship reset or is the tropical fruit opened permanently?

That's an excellent question, freerange. It would be nice to hear from a CM on this one.

Thats what I was asking, about where the resetting part came from, sorry if I wasn`t clear... Thanks freerange for asking it better. ^^

It was so clear that only the island and not the ship will reset, that the long time the mods are not replying makes me wonder if that might changed (in the first confusion there were official replies that only if you had never activated the island would you still only have 4 slots on your ship; too many threads now). The weekend will only lend fuel to this rumour.

Anyway, because I'm actually also BORED NOW that the island is gone *phantom clicks on fourth island* here's the original announcement again, note how having a greenhouse also plays a role.
    Update - August 14th - Greenhouse and Ship V2

The greenhouse will be unlocked upon completion of the first island farm task.

The captain is very interested in the goods you may harvest from now on and will offer you to trade these, along with all your regular goods, for all he has to offer.

On the ship, there will still be 6 slots to fill altogether.
4 slots are to be filled with regular goods, 2 with the new greenhouse goods.

it's nothing but pure speculation if the ship will stop asking for fruit right now. Nobody has said ( nobody with authority, anyways ) what will or will not happen.

Just because the island was not played and the ship sets sail without needing fruit means nothing. There is no target revitalization to the island, so therefore nobody can say there is a reset. You guys are feeding your own furvor over it all.

It could stop asking when the tropical barter leaves ( at this writing, in one day).

It could ask for it forever.

It could "reset" at any point between now and next island event roll around.

There's nowhere with any telling in any official announcement or thread discussion by an authorizes GGS entity.

related : That's basically what I whine at so much in all of this. THERE ARE NO DETAILS TO ANYTHING. Just blind leaps of faith and zealots on each side taking the voices now.

I don't remember where it was posted, but do remember reading the ship was designed for the function it now has. It will forever ask for fruit. Which, is the reason you buy the seeds and can grow them while the island is away. They also stated that the Island Trader where you buy the seeds from will be visiting off and on occasionally while the island is away.

If you haven't unlocked the ship, you still are good with 4 items. The ship will always ask for fruit from this point on for anyone who has gone to the island. The airport is the only part that needs unlocking again. Boat is permanently unlocked, as it was designed to be.

i had played the island farm last time but this time i haven't unlocked it, the ship is still asking for tropical fruits
i think it might be because i still have a few tropical seeds in my inventory, i bought those with the shells that i got at the end of the event
i hope the ship stops asking for fruits when the all the seeds have been used up

i don't want it to be the way it is being said here i.e. the ship will never reset,
we'll perhaps have to wait till Monday to get an official response.

This is more or less the impression I was under, which is why Jiesta`s post surprised me & I just wanted to know if it was a quote from an official source, because I had totally missed that one.

As the island is not available to anyone under level 30, it would make sense that they would not be asked for fruit by the ship, though Captain Barnacle does have a habit of starting to ask for things as soon as they are available to you, regardless of whether or not you chose to get them.....For example I was asked for things from the Flower Farm before I ever had one, because the FF had just been unlocked for my level.

It would be helpful if a CM could put these rumours to bed & confirm for everyone, what triggers the ship to start asking for tropical fruit & that once it starts doing that there is no going back, whether you go to the island a 2nd time or not.

Is it just me,or does anyone else think that the whole island event was made to be much more complicated than necessary? If you just look at the huge number of threads started on the island farm, it's plain to see there is a lot of confusion for a single event. Even us old hands don't know what's going on! Hey, we're not all computer programmers!

Yes, Jiesta and farmerjohn are correct. My airport is unlocked only because I sold certificates to the island barkeeper, in exchange for $40K. Never visited the island having read it was temporary, just wanted the $$$$ to develop my main farm. The ship has 4 slots available for me to fill, with the island products greyed out until I unlock the island event, which won't happen at this point. Currently the ship is asking for products I haven't the means of producing (yet), like cherries, peaches and fruitcakes (not giving up my dandelions. the goats need fed). If I only supply 2 or 3 slots (from almonds, eggs, milk, apples, occasionally wildflowers!), I still get paid and earn experience points, and now horseshoes. I do compare what the captain pays for apples versus selling them to the market. Hope this helps.

I agree.. did put lots of money and gold in the new island and what did i get back?? shelvs? what tho do with them?? i agree its a waste of our money..Katja

Problem is that they are forcing it on us. They never asked us if we wanted a Gourmet or Flower Farm revamp, nor did they ask about books, neither the boat, nor the island and neither the Horse ranch. It boils down to one thing and one thing only... How can GGS manipulate the game and the player base into spending more gold. That is it. Nothing more, nothing less.

In the 70's we had the Brady Bunch.... now we have the Greedy Bunch! The future is not always a synonym of improvement... GGS is a living proof. They are just a bunch of greedy, mercantile, money hungry group with only one thing in mind that they try to cover up with what they call "New Features".

Let's just say I'm far from being impressed and also far from buying it.

@Fadedjean... The confusion on this thread is, what happens if you DID unlock the Island this time, but you don`t unlock it next time. Jiesta is saying that it will reset and you will go back to 4 slots on the ship, which would be great, but we have no official confirmation of that. ^^

@RunswivScissors -thanks for the insight, I've had to piece together from different threads what the island farm is about, sounds like it was meant for higher level players with good cash flow.

@Remolade - right now at my main farm the sea shell trader is visiting, click on his truck and he will swap shells for tropical fruit seeds. (and I apologize I'm not familiar enough to know how that greenhouse gets established across the main farm, is it purchased during the island event only or is it also connected to the flower farm....so onward to peruse the other threads to learn more)

You will find your greenhouse at the bottom of the screen outside your farm....south of the garage ^^

    So to recap......

I have to use certificates (not got enough of these as it is) to unlock the airport......

Then visit the bank to exchange cash (no it's not +15%, it's the exchange rate) to pay for buildings....(taking up my already overloaded building slot)

All of which vanishes after 30 days!

I get some reward of unknown value and possibly spend more to get shells to exchange for deco's and seeds, again of unknown value......

Er think I'll pass on this, far too complex for what is basically a long term "event"......at least until I have made some headway on the other farms and I get some feedback from others as to the value!

I am at level 70 or I turned that mid-event and had I known what the island was going to cost me, how unprofitable it was set up to be until you got to the 3rd chapter ie until you had coconuts at least anyway, and that I should have been making the slushes non stop as soon as possible well even then I don't think I would hae got my money back out of the damned island. The input costs are just too high before you can start to make any decent profit and the bar is so slow that your ability to make money is well, pathetic. It's really a joke. The whole thing is a setup to make you spend 100 million dollars and if you are lucky you might make a million back. The building and demolishing takes so long even if you level your main house to level 3 more is ridiculous waste. Like I said better to have charged 100 million for the decorations and forget the whole stupid island. Those who wanted to spend that much on decos could do so and those of us with our sanity would be spared having to go through this madness. I would never have done it if it wasn't for the shells for the seeds for greenhouse and then the horseshoes for the horse ranch. I will not be doing another island event

Note: If I had it to do over I would just have bought enough land for a field and just planted stuff on it for 30 days, the amount of shells would not have been much but at least I would not have wasted all that money. That might be an idea for low level players as well, if you want to participate but just not get in over your head.

I just turned lvl 69, and I was on vaca until the 10th so I got a late start on the Island. I knew it was temporary, but I had great fun building it. Yes, my other farms suffered, especially the flower farm which is supposed to bloom (pun intended) from like 63-70. But it was my choice. The only gold I spent, was in the last few days of the Island, when I realized I wasn't going to finish 2:5 if I didn't rush, and I couldn't let that effort go to waste. Again my choice.

The reason I chose to spend time on the Island instead of my Main farms, is that it WAS temporary. It was gonna be then gone. This is a game, right? Sure a lot of it is about getting the most of what you can out of as little effort/cost as possible. But its also about fun. I had fun wandering around the Island even though I made about a billion mistakes! I am looking forward to its return.

In the meantime, my main farm, neglected though they were, are still here for me to play with and improve now, no worse for wear than it was. It seems like some people treat Big Farm as a race. Have to improve your mains and not play on the island which is a "waste of resources/money etc," because anything that slows you down is bad! And that's great if that's what you like! For me, I enjoyed popping a grape in my mouth... sucking down an orange fizz... and dodging lemur hurled shells.

For me, its not a race. Its a relaxing getaway from real work. :)

I feel insult was added to injury when I found that not only doesn't the greenhouse requests of the ship even out to how many greenhouse fruits I can grow, I can't even sell off the (small) excess amount at a cut price. So, for example, I am stuck with 7 pineapples that I can't get rid of--even if I were willing to sell them at less than half of what the ship buys them for. Hey GGS, want to trade what horseshoes I've earned to let me go back to how the ship worked before I opened the airport/island?

The Island Farm Event has only been available to play once. It will be a month or more before it is available again. The shell trader has a count down timer when he will leave. He will come back on and off like the others do. I bought all the seeds I could and have harvested them all too. I have given all the fruit I had to the ship too. The ship will continue to ask for the fruits. I have a few shells and pineapple left over or next time the Island comes around, but I won't play it much next time unless some changes are made and bugs corrected. I like it, fun, but too expensive and soooo many millions for temporary farm. I'm almost Level 62 player. Maybe it will be easier to have so many millions when I get over Level 100.
I think that there are way too many threads about the island. I would like to see them all in one, so there is not so much repetition of questions and answers, and so it is easier to go back and find a post if I need to. Nafaru has responded to many questions about the island, but can't respond to so many threads. So, some miss the replies, or don't read the update info, because I see the same questions over an over again in different threads. Many who reply to questions have their answers from official posts from Nafaru on other threads.
Also - Everyone, we have lots of room in the title of a thread. Please be as detailed as you can in the title about what your thread is about. I for one would really appreciate it. It will help all of us keep the threads on track. Thanks!

    Hi all,

Since there are only a few hours left to buy seeds for the greenhouse...does anyone know if the ship will keep asking for fruit if you don't have any seeds anymore? Also, should you spend all of your shells on the seeds? I have looked for the answer for this but have not found it.

    Cheers.

The ship will keep asking for fruit, whether you can deliver or not. If this will go on forever, nobody knows for sure.
I used almost all my shells to buy seeds. What seeds and how many is based on the assumption that whatever the ship asks for stays the same. Still got a few shells left in case one type of fruit becomes more random than the others so there is a change to compensate. Experience tells me to be prepared for any surprises.
    Number of seeds i bought:L/G/P/M=146/71/44/18

I fill the fruitslots with the minimum, keeping the ship going for as long as i can.

As a deputy I advised my coop-members to exchange half of their shells for tropical seeds. And to hold on to the other half till the next visit of B. Buddler - because then probably we will know more about the paddock, the use of the horseshoes and which tropical fruits to grow (?).
Furthermore - because of reading so many complaints of players who believe they "wasted" or "lost" (a lot of) their money on the island - I also gave the suggestion to whom it may concern, to buy an "Oasis of Idleness", build it up on 1 of their farms and demolish it again = this will give them $ 900.000!! And to use the rest of their shells for tropical seeds.

The paddock will not walk away; the shell-trader will come back (as I've read) and "the 4th (temporary) farm" will come back in one or other form also. Some extra farm dollars now might come in handy for some players.

I myself traded 1/3 of my shells for tropical seeds, and will hold on to the other 2/3 shells for the next visit of B. Buddler. I did not buy the oasis myself, because 2 days before the island event ended I was already back on my old total amount of farm dollars (the amount I had before the island event started) and still counting ever since.

For what it is worth: I enjoyed the island event and all its challenges very much, and am looking forward to the next temporary 4th farm, whatever it may be!

    Ship rework (Version 2)

"The captain is very interested in the goods you may harvest from now on and will offer you to trade these, along with all your regular goods, for all he has to offer.

On the ship, there will still be 6 slots to fill altogether.
4 slots are to be filled with regular goods, 2 with the new greenhouse goods.
Up to level 30, 4 slots are available. At level 30, you can unlock slots 5 and 6 by unlocking the airport for temporary island events."
