You click the clasping hands at the bottom of your screen and choose 'found a cooperative' rather than 'choose a cooperative'. It costs gold though.
If you're already in a coop, you must first leave your coop, then click the multiple people button at the bottom of the screen and then you can follow the instructions above.
375 gold. It is pretty difficult running a co-op, so make sure you know what you get into before you start one. Sometimes it is better to join an existing co-op, unless you have good reasons to start your own (you know what to do from other games or real life or you do not want the hassle of an existing co-op).
The advantage is that you get to set your own rules and don't have to do what anyone else says to stay in the coop. The disadvantage is that if what you want to do isn't helping anyone, you'll be alone in the coop.
