At the top of this thread I reported a +13 decoration changing the running costs by 4. Now the problem is getting worse. The new frog prince well is +20 but only changing running costs by 2. This makes it very difficult to decide what decorations to put on the farms as nothing is accurate as I see it. After putting in frog prince wells I"ve discovered that an ornamental tree with +13 happiness for $600 is only 1 point difference in running cost compared to a frog prince well advertised at +20 for $30,000. That's $600 vs $30,000 for 1 point. This all changed as I was building them on my main farm. There is no way to know what to buy in terms of decorations. The value means absolutely nothing. There appears to be little value in this new ornament and sadly I built too many of them before I noticed the change. For the record the only changes to the main farm were to replace the ornamental trees for the frog prince wells. So it appears that adding decorations lower the value of all decorations installed or not yet purchased? I did not level up since the frog prince well became available.

Stats for my main farm for an example

4 ornamental trees cost $2400 happiness value advertised +13
4 frog prince wells cost $120000 happiness value advertised +20
price difference in farm dollars $117,600 happiness difference +7 each x 4 wells = +28 difference

The difference in running costs between the above information is -4%
So if I would have left the trees the runnings cost were -84%
Replacing trees with wells the running cost is -88%

lol a whopping -4% for $117,600 more farm dollars. How does one even think about buying more expensive decorations especially the gold ones with these kinds of stats. Ive bought 1 gold decoration so far for the record.

For a farm management game this kind of throws management out the window doesn't it. This is not so much a complaint as it is reporting what I'm experiencing. Recap I have not upgraded anything on my main farm and I have not leveled up recently these changes are due only to the replacement of lower value decorations with higher value ones.

I've been trying to grasp what you are saying. I would have been better served to not upgrade as I call it the ornamental trees for the new decor. It appears that just adding decorations lessens the overall value in terms of running costs. I reported that my ornamental trees were tallied as -4 running costs each. Now, with the new event and new decorations, the frog prince well damaged that by lowering them to -2 running costs on the same ornamental trees. Even if I put the wells into storage the values stay at the same new rate of-2 running costs. Had I not purchased the new frog prince wells my running costs per ornamental tree would have remained at -4 running cost instead of the new lower total of -2 running costs. So just buying the wells and even putting them into storage doesnt bring back the old value toward running costs of the ornamental trees. Like I said nothing else changed on this farm with the exception of buying and building the new frog prince well. I hope that made sense. lol

Oh meemow, I've been trying to get my head round what you are saying, and I deleted my reply having decided I had misunderstood before I noticed you had replied. So sorry :(

I'll think about this some more and make sure staff this on Monday too

PS have you ever totted up the running costs of a playing days worth of farming? I can't right now but I might tomorrow. Just to see how long it will take you to recoup that $117k

Example: I have 8 apple orchards with a base running cost of $1338

    8*$1,336=$10,688 every 3 hours
$10.688*5=$53,440 if I were here all day
    4% of $53,440 is $2,137.6
So your dec upgrades would save me $2,000 on just my apple orchards. though admittedly that would be a very full day

I'll work out the cherry, fields and animals tomorrow (perhaps:))

My question is entirely based upon this: How does adding decorations lower the original output translated as running costs of the original decorations already in place?

ornamental tree before new frog prince well bought and installed had an effect of -4 running costs
ornamental tree after new frog prince well bought and installed has a new effect of -2 running costs.

No other variables changed to lower those running costs. When I put the new frog prince wells into storage and replace them with the original ornamental trees they don't go back to their -4 running cost per tree. They now retain the new value of -2 running costs.

For clarity no other changes were made on this farm.

Thanks again for your help. : )

OK. I think I'm with you now

The affect of happiness on you running costs is not linear. So say you have 10 decorations all the same which have given you -50% running costs. If you add another 10 of the same you may well have only -75% running costs. You've doubled your happiness but you haven't doubled your -% running costs

So the -% value of a decoration will vary according to when you placed it in relation to other decorations. If you have mixed decorations it will have a higher effect if placed down 1st than if placed last

My happiness has dropped 3% today since I've been playing. When I started my main farm happiness was at 78% and now its at 75%. I've made no changes and 3% is a lot to me. I'd like someone to explain this to me because this has happened several times now and I really don't appreciate it.

Your dog only provides happiness when its fed. If it is hungry your happiness will have dropped. Feed it and it will be up again. Therefore it is important that you feed your dog before you click anything else, so your happiness is back up. Nobody is messing with it, it is meant to be like this that the dog does not provide happiness when it is hungry and thus not happy. It is comparable to a deco, but again only when it is fed.

Did your build or upgraded a house recently?. House decreases happines. If you started upgrading a house and house is finished when you log on again, you will have lower happines.

In addition to the decorations, is the workers' happiness levels associated with whether or not they are assigned? In other words, does their happiness increase or decrease when fields/production facilities/etc. are upgraded?

No, it's their houses. May sound weird, but upgraded houses make the workers less happy. They do not like it for some reason.

So technically, 2 level 1 houses take less happiness away than one level 3 house. A level 3 house gives -91 happiness, a level 1 house gives -35 happiness, 2 of them gives -70 happiness logically. Both houses provide the same amount of workers. Level 3 provides 10+5+5 = 20 and 2 level 1 houses both give 10, which is also 20.

However, if you do upgrade the house to level 3, you can put a good 5x5 decoration next to it to outweigh the unhappiness it gives, whereas 2 level 1 houses take in that extra 5x5 space.
