If you need a couple of million dollars to upgrade something, it will take a while to save the money to upgrade it.
I myself have 4 cowsheds, 3 pigs, and 4 chickens, all upgraded as often as I find the time to do so. And, I make a large upgrade or couple small ones everyday, still staying at around $750,000-$1,000,000 available at the end of each day. Just fiddle with things until you find something that works for you! If you are on for long periods of time, the quick stables like pigs and chickens would be a really good option for dung production.
Especially focus on getting happiness upgraded on your gourmet farm. Since running costs and sales are higher there than on your main farm, your profit margin stands to be much higher there too.
Be very careful about upgrading or building anything new until you have a higher happiness. At your level, you aren't making huge profits to begin with, and high running costs eat up too much of them to advance quickly. If your smile-meter is not in the green, make getting it there your absolute priority on both farms.
Sadly, the 30s are (as I recall) the slowest and hardest levels to balance happiness and profits, but don't give up! Do have a look at Tetrissing your farm for some very good advice on making your farm layout more efficient; I think you still have a little more space in there. Also, this spreadsheet will be a good guide to "upgrading" your decorations; go for the best happiness per square (h/sq) available that you can afford and fit in.
Nice idea, but not possible for a level 32 player; enchanted trees aren't available until level 48.
Aras Ren, the Asian event won't be much help at your level either, but when the Hawaiian event rolls around, upgrade a few vegetable patches with Hawaiian fountains, and in the alien event get a bunch of mysterious relics (these are valuable at any level because 4x3) and a couple of crop circles. The Hawaiian fountains and the crop circles should be considered interim decorations to be replaced again later when you're high enough level for the really good ones (5x4 enchanted trees, and 5x5 thickets or Hawaiian beaches and especially event prize decorations), but the limited time event decorations are all much cheaper than regular decorations of comparable size and happiness.
Montuous is right about those alien relics. I've got an army of them on my main farm. I've only just started replacing them with Enchanted Trees after doing the math. They beat out the Hawaiian Fountain in happiness per square.
Lol, 'tetrissing'. I always was good at Tetris. My mom now defers to me for stocking the freezer because it's a side-by-side and it's hard to fit everything in there. Especially since we tend to buy way too much frozen stuff for our freezer.
