Donkey - yay or neigh?

snork (INT1)snork (INT1) Posts: 518
I wasted money and time on it, so I'm asking: my donkey sty's still only level 1, it gives me only 78 donkeys that cost a fortune to feed and bring no money- should I tear it down for now? I still can't make enough money to buy land or build or upgrade.

Is the dung worth all the feed and production time? Or can I happily tear down the level 1 donkey and stick to my two goats and two almonds (and three pigs and two apples on MF)?

The donkeys poop a lot, you might want to keep them for that.

Nay but I'm keeping mine for now. Mainly because of the donkey side tasks. I will probably demo it and use the space for goats or almonds after I finish the side tasks. The extra poop is not worth tying up my gardens and mill.

    Donkeys
    YAY!!!!
    Watermill
    NAY!!!!

The donkey stables are a poop machine especially at full upgrade BUT the time taken to produce enough donkey feed to actually run them (I have 5) is a slow boring process. So its a thumbs up from me for the donkey stables but two thumbs down for the very slow watermill.

i think that depends on what is going on with your gourmet farm right now. How many fields do you have there? When they remade the gourmet farm i made the mistake of just following the tasks that they gave, and upgrading, taking advantage of the 1/2 building time that was given, and i did not pay attention until it was pretty far into it to realize that i can not maintain what i had built. I have recenty demolished my composter and extra houses to make room for another field, which i plan to do again. I would definitely plan on keeping the donkeys over the ducks, as long as you have a good quantity of chicken coops on your main farm. By having your extra field, you can grow your dandelions during the day to maintain your goats, then plant your barley when you sign off for the day, that way you can keep the donkeys going. Your composter, as long as it is upgraded on the main farm takes much less leaves compared to the gourmet farm, yes you save some time, but who cares, it is not going to help you if you do not have any leaves to turn to compost anyways. Also, beware, if you do not have your bakery built yet, dont worry, you are not missing anything. The recipes are all very similiar to each other, they take forever to get all of the ingredients, and once you transfer an item to the bakery, it is stuck there, you can not sell it, you will have to use it in a recipe to get any use out of it, so think twicwe before transferring anything to the bakery. I stopped using mine altogether, i have lost money hand over fist trying to keep up with it. I am only running my fields , goat and mill and i am finally making some money again, i just started growing barley for my donkeys, we will see what happens...... and my running costs are -86%

Thanks guys, I knew about the bakery and peaches (so I didn't build them) and yes, the problem is the water mill that I can't afford to upgrade. But I will keep the poopers :)

Two weeks or so of playing, and in both farms the donkey (lv 1 and 3, IIRC) are worthless, while the ducks on one farm give the same amount of poop and also eggs. Do you still say they are worth less? Because I really think I will tear down the lv 1 donkey tonight and build a duck in its space after all. Can't maintain both and the donkeys are not that much faster - just wanted to check why you were so much less in favour of them! :)

HI Snork. I think you may want to just upgrade the donkeys to get the task done and then get rid of them. It really is up to you though. I would rather go with something that benefits my coop though. Since you are a coop leader I would go with something that benefits me both with dung and my projects. I got rid of my donkeys I find them pretty useless though cute. That is just my opinion though. Take care!

To me the donkey is a good thing because I have many fruit trees, which needs lots of dung.

About the bakery: If you are in a coop where you have resarch some recipes, you bakery wil give profits from level 1.
If no recipes are researched, bakery need to be level 4 before it gives profit on all recipes.
In our coop we have done some rearch in recieps, and my bakery is level 7.
Therefore I theoretical could make 162,46 dollars pr minute by making apple slices. (Only theoretical offcourse, because to do that, I have to start the bakery immediate every time it's finish)

Yes but the ducks give you the same amount of dung, no? That is my question at the moment; we always said donkey is for dung, but ducks are nearly on the level and give eggs that sell for more.

I won't build it. Not even with the new changes. I played it on the other farm which I'm now tearing down completely. The figures already told me, but actual game play showed it is a boring huge draining waste (my co-op will never get far, in both worlds).

Eggsactly - there are no donkey missions, but eggs count. And I don't waste my money and time on upgrade for those few measly xp we get now :( also I remember how you looooove your ducks, my dear :)

Well, no, they don't, unless you're running them inefficiently. The donkeys give twice as much dung, because their cycle is 3.5 hours while the ducks take 8 hours. The difference is even greater from level 4 up; compare 102/113/127/144/160/180/213 dung for donkeys (204/226/254/288/320/360/426 in 7 hours) to 109/115/121/128/135/142/150 for ducks.

Bottom line: If you need more eggs, build ducks. If all you need is more dung, build donkeys. If you build both, you might go nuts trying to mill enough feed for all.

The duck only gives dung (and eggs) every 8 hour, where the donkeys gives dung every 3:30 hour.
At the moment my ducks dont give me enough dung to all my trees. - Maybee later when I have upgraded the ducks to a higher level? - I have not calculated it yet.

Remember that the need for dung depends on many things:
    How many orchards have you?
If you have a water tower, if so what level?
    Which level has the silo?

I have so many fruit trees, that I at the moment need the donkeys to produce dung. at least until I have upgraded my 2 duck farms to a higher level than they have now.

*nods* right, in theory, that's why I tried just playing. And when I log in only twice a day, the donkeys can't work that well. I do the donkeys constantly on this farm, but only lv 1, which didn't seem to add much ... I don't need eggs, that's why I first didn't want to build ducks at all, but the coop I inherited does. Thank you for clarifying the dung thing again!!!

I'm not having problems running my ducks at all, just make sure you upgrade the mill.

Yup, upgrading the mill is crucial in higher levels, especially on the new gourmet farm.

I have two Goat Stables that are providing enough dung for me. I'll be upgrading the stables to get more and I'll be getting another Duck Coop also. The bakery only needs milk and eggs for the recipes. NOT Donkeys. The donkeys are cute but in my opinion, not necessary.....for now.

3 goats and 1 duck now - even without a bakery, I don't miss the donkeys, their ridiculously low selling price had only annoyed.

I think right now until something is changed, Donkey, Pigs and Cabbage are useless. I have completed all pig quests, so I dropped down to one pig sty. There needs to be more quests, recipes etc involving these three items.

I have 7 almond orchards, 8 apple, and 1 cherry. Like someone said previously if you're after dung then donkeys are the way to go. 213 dung every 3.5 hours at full upgrades allows me to have enough fertiliser production to maintain all my orchards. It also gives me a big advantage in dung missions so its very useful to me. I guess it all depends on your style of play and the time devoted to this game.

10 donkey feed take an hour to process in level 6 water mill . I think processing time should be lowered otherwise all will get rid of them . m buying barley instead of growing them to feed donkeys bcz it saves 3 hrs in which i can grow dandelion n lamb's lettuce which much useful . soon m thinking to demolish donkeys(i have 2). n making ducks n goats. but at lower levels cant buy them. :(
    :p

I've been dominating the dung missions and usually hang around the 40s and 50s in the rankings because of that and my domination is largely thanks to the one donkey stable I have. Donkeys aren't good for much and you're right, the feed takes forever, so rather than keeping donkey production up like I do with everything else, I've found that their worth is much higher for the dung missions. So when production finishes, I let it sit until the next dung mission comes up. Because I've also found the money bags in the gourmet farm yield a higher average worth than either of the other farms, blocked times aren't usually a problem for me. And leaving the donkey sit until the next dung mission usually gives me just enough to win most missions. I usually only lose against a factory farm, which I'd have no hope of beating anyway.

So if you want to dominate missions, think about it. If you'd rather the production and revenue, get rid of it.
