Well in this case Samty you can speak for me :D. What you said is spot on for me too, I play strictly for fun. I don't care what rank I am at. There is no rule saying you have to play to be #1.

i dont play to be number one would not be able to afford it for a start looking at all the players in co ops at the top ranks they must spend a fortune to stay there good luck to them im just happy to play at my own pace.

I'm with you guys - I play for the fun of it too, and to pass the time. I have seen people spend ludicrous amounts of gold in missions to beat everyone else by thousands (and most of the time its not needed). And I've seen some players jump 5,000+ XP points in one day - how do you do that without spending an extreme amount of gold. Where is the fun in that. Personally I think its amusing.

It is not just a game, it is a 250 bilion dollar industry and the online gaming industry is growing fast. Im quite sure that a lot of players here contributed to that number. There are several posts out here, like the one from Bundy4 ,that explained that a lot of online game developers are out there to grab some fast buck and dont care less about there costumers. Looking the other way wont change that.

And yes, i do have a life and standing up for my rights and the rights of others is part of that. Im am not depriving you your right to walk away nor your right to look the other way.

While I do think that there are companies out there that will match your description, and I actually think this is a great topic to discuss, it doesn't really belong in the update discussion ;) If you really want to talk about it, I'd like to advise you to open up a thread about this subject in the Off-Topic section of the boards.

    Thank you,

I'm not really sure if this upgrade is so bad after all, it now seems, it might be a lot easier to upgrade a house to get extra workers without dropping to much happiness, after getting over the 1st look & a feeling of betrayal from GGS, look at the big picture we're slightly getter off.
The stupidity of it all, 1 of our members with a factory farm, used Steve to upgrade 2 house's & went from +464 to +467.

Hi george3, after reading your post I find myself wondering where you get these happiness numbers from? I just upgraded a single house on my main farm from lvl 1 to lvl 2 and my happiness went from -37 to -6. That's 31 happiness points lost but your friend upgraded 2 houses and only lost 3 happiness points. Can you explain just what it is I am missing here please? Because from where I am something just does not add up.

    Sound strange Bundy

While the architect was here I upgraded 3 houses to level 4, that only cost me loss of happiness: -84 to -80

I don't know why 1 single update have cost you so much.
    Sorry about that

Some parts of the curve (based on the algorithm that translates net happiness points to running costs) are much steeper than others.

You can read it about it in this thread.

    Hi Bundy,
I'm at a complete lose as to WHY, I don't think anyone can, least of all GGS, who seemed to have rushed this through without much thought.
We're the one's GGS wanted to punish for having factory farms, it seems they failed miserably, all 'there'd done is made it harder for everyone else.
The member of our Co-Op is on level 98, I'm on level 99, maybe the answer is somewhere in that, I just don't know,
I hope I haven't upset you to much, but this is an example of the failure of the update.
Unfortunately this is getting very close to the point of "is it really worth all the grief".
There's no point hoping GGS will fix it, you'll get more response from a brick wall.
    George

Thanks george3. I just cant work it out as it seems like the higher lvl players who have their farms already set up are loosing the least and the lower lvls wearing the brunt of these changes. It also seems to be effecting co-op members differently. Some have hardly noticed the changes while a few of us are seriously wondering if it is worth it. As an experiment on my flower farm I have just completed building decorations worth 117 happiness points and my happiness has gone from 312 to 267.

I will wait until after the new upgrade (which should happen any time now) and if things haven't improved I'm afraid I just won't be able to keep playing. I understand there needs to be some challenge in a game but it also needs to be consistent and fair for everyone. GGS also needs to recognise that by making the game like this cannot be in their best interest, it is causing divide and disagreements between the people that are greatly effected and those that are not.

I have never played the game to compete with anyone except myself (again, play how you want personally not how someone wants you to) and by this I mean my farms were set up only for the personal challenges. I have never been attracted to "team games" as it is so hard to find a group of people who share the same ideas and game-play as me. I have only been in an active co-op for 3 weeks now and am now lvl 54. Was lvl 51 when I joined them and I have learned so much and met some really great people. It is only been in the last 2 weeks that I understand that playing the way I was is no longer possible, I have had to sell production buildings just to add decorations because I was actually loosing money after the update and if anyone disputes that they are full of poop . I can now actually make a little money but it will take me forever to get anywhere now.

I know there are others out there that have been effected similarly and have posted about it. It just seems to fall on deaf ears or gets negative posts from players who either have not been effected as bad or are already in positions to make changes to their farms with minimum disruption to them.

So for me its a waiting game now. The changes to be made are critical for many, if things stay as they are now I personally won't be playing on and I know a lot of people who feel the same.

My main farm is currently operating at -42% running cost (houses 1925, decorations 1973, total 48 ).

I try to take away just one 5x5 deco worth +74 happiness, and guess what happens to my running cost?

    Running cost escalated to +77% (houses 1925, decorations 1899, Total -26). 8|

Bundy & Speedydog I have worked out the new happiness and what it means, take a look at this thread as Erica has correctly pointed out some parts of the 'curve' are steeper than others so you may decide to revise your play style based on this.

Just finished reading your post minadequate2 and looking at your graph. Very nice work and I guess it explains a lot for me personally. I am in zone 2, not because I want to be but because of how I started playing and it was manageable before the happiness update. I was just happy to play the game how I was.

What your research has told me personally is that you have 2 choices in game play, 1/ you play hard to win and go full on factory/production or 2/ you play part time and have more decorations than productive buildings.

Neither of these options really appeal to me and from reading many forum posts from other people won't appeal to them either. What happened to just logging on for a little while each day, having a little bit of fun playing and meeting and chatting to like minded people who are doing the same thing? The developers are turning the game into a full time job.

Personally I don't want to play a game where you need an in-depth knowledge of mathematical formulas just to be competitive or even to just improve at a steady rate. For me I liked the relaxed game play (choice on how to play) and the social side. Now it seems how we play is being governed by what is best for the developers.

Thanks for all your hard work and making a little sense out of this.

Rules... They should make a game interesting and fair! Every game has been evolving, has its own history of rules and as a chess player I get really amused by reading anecdotes about old ones :). The game flow should reflect sense of coordination, balance, your imagination which helps you estimate and anticipate, pure logic that leads you through the jungle of possibilities... Your hidden childishness which drives you sometimes to disturb the balance just to see what will be born out of the chaos ;).

That makes me start thinking that Big Farm is not really a game. But what is it then? A fair maybe, vanity fair...

    Not a fair one...

    Wow, just wow.

    GREAT post. :)

Here's a statistic for you that will sum up my thoughts of this topic

Number of updates GGS has cancelled due to angry players: 0

I've been playing for a little over a year and it hasn't happened once and I don't see it happening any time soon. My point is, while many are angry wouldn't it be more beneficial to just make a decision whether or not u will continue to play or leave the game? The same players writing the same thing over and over......and over and over again in a thread seems a bit pointless to me especially when it will more than likely have no effect on the final outcome.

    Thanks Minadequate2.

@Bundy4 - sorry about that. Fixed it already.

    @Emma Freel -
    (1) Most people have already made the decision (and acted on it) whether to stay or leave.

    (2) It is also very clear to all that GGS will not reverse the happiness upgrade. People get this already.

    (3) For those who've decided to stay, it's more likely they're staying not for the love of the game but because of their co-op and the friendships they made on here.

    (4) As for people writing the same things over and over, this is after all the happiness thread where people are expected to comment about what they think and feel about the upgrade.

I am sick to death of people on this forum telling everyone how they should feel or react about the updates! That is what the forum is for not to just express your happiness! I just left my top 40 co op and donated all of my money and pulled my farm out...I have had enough of these updates and lower happiness! You can bet money I will NEVER play another GGS farm game again! This is the 3rd that I have played and they are all ending up the same way!
not a threat just a fact!

Its not just this company Sandi4848, all game companies do the same thing eventually. I am with you though, I am done with the game also. Good luck finding a new game.

I have a problem with experiance, not with happiness.
Is anyone else having this problem?

I have tasks/objectives on main farm to build exp. 4 cowsheds level 5, cherry level 5 or 6 not sure, etc.
Two days ago reward was like 1100 xp for cowsheds, 300 or something like that for cherry and now cowshed experinace is just 120.

Yeah, I just looked and there wasn't anything in the patch notes about any other changes besides gourmet farm. Nothing about XP changes or bugfixes.

I did find this from Nafaru though (posted after the update):
    Nafaru wrote: »
    Hey kisulimisuli and Mirahh,

some of the experience points you get on the main farm have been redistributed to tasks on the gourmet farm, to even out the experience distribution on both farms.

This means you will not get less experience points (all taken points were added to tasks that pop up at the same or later levels), but just through different tasks. :)

    Regards,
    Steffi

I am very happy to report that all 3 of my farms are now deleted as of a few hours ago--it took about a week so you should be seeing the rankings change dramatically over the next few days, since I think I was in part of the early stampede to leave.

I have checked back a few times to see how the new gourmet farm would go & have absolutely no interest in adding more stress to my life.

I have found a free farm game, where gold is entirely optional to buy, updates come frequently so there is new stuff all the time. I will be just fine without GGS.

    Peace.

I just want my farm to look real not have all these extra decorations. too cluttered.!!! Please give us a large decoration so we can combine points in one deco. This would be nice:)

I'd be more than happy to have a simple meadow deco of various values, the look of fallow land would be much better than swings and fairy tale castles!

"Big Farm" is like a child in its growing stages.I think it is unique and challenging..Yes there is quirks and flaws,,but arent we as people the same way? we judge and condemn the builders when we dont get what we think should be our way..No game is ever perfect...The effort u put into it using the resources u have available is what yr outcome is.....Same with life...You either muddle thru pouting the whole way,,or u find the goodness in what u do and enjoy and prosper.....Im not tryin to make a hundred million..just make a living:)
