Merging Co-ops ?

Uncle WillyUncle Willy Posts: 261
We have been invited to join a co-op much bigger then ours and we are wondering if its a good idea.
What happens to our co-op funds, gold and sp points. Do they get transferred somehow or do will we lose them?
We have 17 members, they have over 40, What difference will that make to us?
Can we have co-managers and deputy's?
Can our co-op names be changed to reflect the merger?
If some members wish to stay and some leave how do we fairly deal with the co-op funds but we are currently thinking it we be all of us or none of us.
What else should we consider as we ponder this merge?

Thank- you in advance for your input :)

Co-ops technically cannot be merged. It always ends in one co-op closing and the members going over to the bigger co-op. Therefore all the gold, dollars, collectibles donated into the co-op will be lost. The collectibles that are in the projects now and some dollar researches in an un-started project can be taken back, but that will be it.

The difference for you will be that you together will be a co-op of 57 members. The max amount of members a co-op can have is 65. The new co-op will have a lot more benefits for all the members, but they do need a lot more money and run bigger projects. So you will get more benefits but also work a bit harder. It may be easier to get the co-op to grow this way though.

You can make certain agreements with the other co-op, like who will be deputies and who will be the leader (I assume the current leader will remain). You can only have one leader though. And as many deputies as you want (which is the same now).

You can change any co-op's name for 2000 gold and only the leader can do that.

If you all leave the co-op, the co-op will cease to exist. If some of you leave the co-op, the remaining members will have a new leader or the same if the leader remains as well and will get the chance to keep running it with all the resources available in the co-op. The leaving members will only get money for a non-started research back and can take their collectibles back out. Any dollars and gold donated to previous researches and the co-op accounts are gone.

So technically, the co-op will need 17 free spots to take you all in. I wonder if they realize this?

Because the update struck their members? Because they are running bad business? I dunno lol :P I do not think they would have - so merging is not exactly what they are looking for. I think they are more looking for taking the best members out into their co-op.

sure dont know about your co-op but i have had the same invites. whats to stop the leader of that co-op from kicking out who they do not want to keep from your co-op. and as for having 17 free spots open, alot of co-ops that have contacted me to merge have booted a bunch of players they were not happy with , and that is why they have all those open spots to fill. so be careful in a merge because you will no longer have control of any thing, you dont know what another leader may do. one person asked me to dump all the slacker members and bring just my good ones. if you are doing good in your co-op i would stay as you are. i always send out a group message and let the co-op decide as a whole. thats what a co-op is anyway, a group working as a whole to achieve a goal.

Are you guys all happy together? Our co-op got an invite a while back and there were about 20 of us and we all decided we wanted to stay in our own co-op because they couldn't take everyone and well we just didn't want to split up our co-op. It did not take us long to make that decision. I would make sure you know what the rules are of that co-op and never assume that they are on the same page as you are.

It is a risk you take deciding to quit your co-op and go into someone elses. The dynamics will change and even game play can change. What might be a big deal to them, might not have been a big deal in your other co-op. Just think carefully and ask lots of questions and have a plan in case it doesn't work out if you decide to join them.

Thank you everyone for your thoughtful reply's. We are all very happy with our co-op and have decided not to merge.

Good decision, Uncle Willy. I received the same offer to merge with a much larger co-op. But I quickly recognized that "merger" actually meant "absorption"

The community bonfire is available in forum events. Right now no event is running that offers the bonfire. Keep an eye on the official announcements to be the first to read about an event and what you need to do to win. When one has been posted there, give it your best shot. Though I should mention, it is not easy to get it.

It can also be given by a CM to somebody that did something really awesome for the forum community.

    Hello,
Since posting the merging co-ops question I have started my own co-ops. I still talk and laugh with some of my old co-op members :) but not all of them :p. I liked Big Farm before but now I am LUV LUV LOVING BIG FARM !
    Thank you GGS and Altigi.
The funny kinda ironic thing that reminded me of this post is that a smaller co-op happily merged with Uncle Willys Cooperative today. I think that's pretty cool and so do they.
Big Farm just keeps getting better and better in surprising and fun ways.
The Big Farm Forum is also great. It has helped me very much since I became a Big Farm Addict.
Thank you to all the Mods and Managers and Devs and I can't leave out Larino's Blog

There is one small thing I wish I had, even though I have gotten so much more then I ever expected from this game, I wish I had a Custom User Title for my Owl avatar :whistling:

    Cheers

I believe you can edit your own title, the part where it says "Beginner", from your own forum profile settings. :3

I'm glad you're enjoying the game so much! \^-^/

Since the forum update a couple of weeks ago, players can no longer edit the beginner. GGS wants to use that as a way of rewarding forum players for contests, helping others, etc.
