I wouldn't have put it if it wasn't true. At the end of each mission, a window comes up showing you how you went. Even getting stone cold last in any mission, whether there be only two people in it or the maximum ten people; you will still get a small amount of XP and farm$. For the farm$, this is especially advantageous to newbies because the cash flow isn't great on low level farms. For the XP, it's advantageous to people of all levels, if they want to advance through the ranks. Every time you level up, you get gold and other things, so the quicker you level up, the more regularly you get the gold. As Dragonpride has already answered, if you don't have any RP, you can play the missions for free.
so, if u do it for free, then that means you don't get any xp or $$. is that correct?
my fear is bottoming out the RP, which is why i've stopped doing them...i used to win them. but more recently i am 3rd or 4th place. eventually, you go down far enough in the ranks you don't get your RP replaced. so, i reckoned just to keep them until my farm is big enough to compete. but, frankly, i don't know if that is a good strategy because of all the stuff folks have mentioned here...the newer updates are skewed towards gold users, and, without any gold fertile fields or blue barns, the missions are already really stacked towards people who are willing to use gold to win. the last time i played i used a bit of gold just to hold 3rd place, and it was my cue to stop...or, i'd be out of gold and RP!
I am always in a Mission where possible, but don't do anything other than what I would do anyway. Even overnight while I sleep. Free XP and $. And I'm not the only one. Missions often end with one, two or more with a zero score
Entries are very low at the moment, I can't remember the last time I was in a full one, and 3 or 4 entrants seems to be the norm
I take the opposite view to you. I don't see the point in not being in a Mission. Extra XP and $ for doing what I was going to do anyway. Yes, I come last a lot, but I also win a few and come middling in most. I have never, and will never spend gold in a Mission. RP are meaningless so spending gold in a Mission buys you XP, farm dollars and bragging rights. Not worth it for me, I'll just take the free XP and dollars
And I feel I'm doing a social service
Anyway, Missions are being reworked, lets see what happens then
The unfairness is built into the fact that I can't buy the right to play an online game outright, like offline games. This is not about paying people for what they do; that suggestion is just naive. I've already paid the cost of delivering the game to me personally ten times over. It's about profiteering, squeezing the current customers, which is off-putting to new customers and ultimately will destroy the game environment.
As I said before, the market is sensitive to this kind of abuse. Nobody likes being ripped off and most people have a keen eye for swindles.
Making a clear difference between regular fields and "fertile" fields (and btw, this is also unrealistic; we already have humus) will put new players on notice that GGS has already achieved all it's capable of in terms of creativity and is now about taking foolish people's money.
One more of these gold-digging updates and I'm out of here. It's not like I can't find more constructive things to do with my money.
There are regularly bug fixes in updates that benefit all members.
Somehow I'm thinking you're not referring to that however. Staff don't promise things such as a feature for all members then don't follow through with it. There may be very rare exceptions such as the introduction of the dog that was held back because they just couldn't remove some serious bugs from it quite in time for the upgrade to take place, however as I said they are rare and is explained in the forums as to why it's not taking place when it's been mentioned.
Other than that, Staff will mention at times that a new feature is coming such as the mission and Gourmet farm revamps, however no ETA has been announced at all yet as the behind the scenes staff are still working hard on things to get them to the point where they can go live with them. They may know an approximate time frame for a new feature/element to be ready, but things can go wrong very easily unfortunately so they don't make those sorts of announcements until things are at a point where they are confident it will come through as is meant to.
Kat.
... and your sacrifice to we who do care is appreciated!
This is what I've been trying to say all along in several threads in which I've made posts on this subject.... you have just said it much better than I have been able to.
Well Kat, please tell that I.T. bloke who's always hanging around with my mother-in-law at the top of this page (she's the short, nude, pink one just in case there's any confusion) to stop scratching his head, get an idea and go and help the others who are working hard on the updates!!
thanks Samty...that answers my questions...also, thanks Undertaker
happy farming folks! keep it light and breezy!
I am not whining.Giving my opinion.I love this game as much as you do.I am hooked to this game but I am asking waiting for architect and upgrading fields by spending the gold in a rush leaving the rest of the architect upgrades behind thinking it is final and now comes gold fields. If there is any kind of announcement or hint about it I would have waited at least for the gold fields and check if I can afford.not me there are many who completed all of their field upgrades although I am glad I had done only 2 of them.
Giving opinions is not called whining.
I disagree about Steve's work on the farm. I have taken advantage of his presence only a few times since his re-introduction to the game. I have NEVER found it necessary to skip his upgrade process for gold, in order to take advantage of the limited time he is available. Good, bad or indifferent a strong component of this game is patience, perseverance & the ability to roll with the changes....sort of like life, wouldn't you say? For me, over the course of the last 7 months this game (gold or not, & I am a gold user, although not a fanatic) has in its moments, helped me to retain my sanity...Thank you GGS, all the CMs & mods - BF is the best
I must explain the meaning of "irony" to you one day!!
I must be foolishly supporting GGS and allowing you to keep playing by riding on the back of my money then, seeing that I will be looking closely at the fertile fields' cost when it is revealed finally to decide whether or not to buy them? Or did I read it incorrectly?
You like I, can CHOOSE to buy them, or not... We can also CHOOSE to be left in the dust in missions by those who DO CHOOSE to buy them... We can also CHOOSE to be run over by a bulldozer, or the dinosaurs fleeing from Jumanji but that would not be very wise, now would it? I have said it in other threads and I'll say it here: This is just like the Nuclear Arms Race... don't keep up and you'll get nuked. Hmmm.. GGS, how about we get a new Silo with Nuke capabilities while you're changing everything? (He said tongue in cheek).
Congratulations! Let me guess: If I cut 2 fingers and a thumb off my hand, what's left would be the sum total of the number of missions you've done during that time? Once to try it and the second time to confirm that you really hate doing them? Without keeping up with the big players' capabilities where possible, little players are going to get nuked. (figuratively speaking, of course... unless my new Nuclear Silo idea is adopted by the designers. Would that affect the play balance much?
I agree with and ditto mstweety's comment.
I skipped an upgrade for gold the absolute 1st time I saw Steve because I was so excited and thought he wouldn't come back for another month. then, he came back two times in the same day...and, he came on the first day of an event...so, the next event i made sure i had a short upgrade (a land expansion) in the pocket and two of my buildings ready to go...and sure enough, Steve came three times on the first day of an event...enough time to upgrade 2 additional houses to Level 5...
Now, I don't think this approach will work with other building upgrades because there isn't enough time between Steve visits across the day, but the general rule of thumb is...always be prepared...kind of like life, huh?
Hi Kat, thanks for responding
I've only been on board a few months and am not feeling a space squeeze - but maybe I play the game differently from you. I find more benefit in orchards and decorations than selling produce.
Cool, I'm glad you agree ... there doesn't seem to be a shortage of people who do.
- I agree that the smaller fields take up less space. I didn't realize that was in contention.
- I spend more than enough on gold to be contributing to the game.
- The point is not whether or not people are free to leave, but whether or not it's a good thing (for both players and GGS) for them to do so.
I've already said that I'll be leaving, if the squeeze continues with more of these dangled carrots. I've curtailed my gold spending since I heard about the fields. I was looking forward to the 4th farm, but as it's still nowhere in sight I'll see how the next couple of upgrades go.
As I said, nobody likes being ripped off and I'm hearing plenty of agreement - however there are always exceptions ...
Hear hear.
:-)
p.s. no event this week?
true, it's not that important, an hour doesn't count to much, but it will be the right thing to do, because the problems that you had with this update are not our fault
also, there might be lots of players who play little time per day and they missed their chance to play the event today due to this problematic update
This seems to be a good sign though, as it must be a big update? That's known as optimism, or:
As you go through life,
whatever be your goal...
Keep your eye upon the doughnut,
and not upon the hole.
(With thanks to the late and great comedian Benny Hill)
thanks for the reply, so we have alien event this week still *feels excited*
I was start to think maybe they starting to remove events of free users for updates for goldies too :P
and can of mods finally say when 4th farm will be coming, i mean come on, a hint at least! :K
However - it seems to overload my CPU or RAM, and now on each farm, a number of assets (buildings, fields, orchards) appear distinctly blurry, while the rest are in sharp detail.
eg. Main farm - 2 of 4 apple orchards are blurry, the other 2 are sharp; 1 of 3 cherry orchards is blurry; barns are blurry; 3 of 4 pigsties are blurry ...
Wonder if anyone else is having this problem?
I've had it a little all along, whenever I use the Next Harvest menu to switch farms ... It seemed to improve a bit (not as many buildings affected) with successive bug fixes but never got rid of it altogether. It's considerably worse though with this update, and doesn't go away when I scroll across the screen, as it did before.
Haven't looked at the fertile fields yet.
Deco seems to be ok now ,But my compostor is not moving into the correct place.
How come you need 2 more spaces to fit deco or producing buildings more than the normal size?
I could add the all list of Bird Baths...
same here. can't place anything back on the farm
I have the required space on the farm, but they just won't build when taken from the Inventory
Same on my farm on SKN server.
