Library,Mine,Roulette Wheel, Dog, are all dumb.
The roulette wheel just seems weird. I dislike it.
The mine is confusing and dumb. I have had over 20 gold mining certificates and I still am unsure how the dumb prime time thing works.
This library... 450 gold to boost corn by 3 each time.. This is worst of lot.
It is like telling everyone their farms totally suck unless they can pay $100+ real money ransom to get it out of the mud.
GGS might be doing very well from this game, but I see people opting out of game already. Maybe television is better option.

But in at least one aspect, I agree with Darconio in the following way:
Many game options are only accessible now when real $$ is used, like the Workshop, Water tower, and the Library (formerly hired Staff), Fancy houses, and Spacious barns. As a game in the ever-growing online "Free Game" genre, BF enjoys the participation of many non-paying as well as 'premium' gamers.
While a lot of the game is enjoying micro-managing your own farm and the development, achievements, and progress what goes with that, another key part of the "fun" of the game is competitive (i.e. Missions, Rankings, and the coop participation level column). BF has a huge number of gamers who take pride in being "non-$ pures" by growing their farms without taking the "easy" and quick $-approach and will have no access to crucial game components for being competitive, especially at high levels, and are likely to stop playing rather than forking over any $ with plenty of other game options out there to choose from. Any of us who have been in a coop for any amount of time already know that players already drop off like flies and can be hard to find long-term committed players. BF needs a high volume of players for the game to be enjoyable in the competitive sense... so... the free-players are crucial to BF's success.
Having said that, I also recognize that (short of some generous donors, or fund-raising drives [god help us, please none of that]), premium options have to be there.
So, I recommend keeping the premium options, but also have a "Barn $$" price for them as well that is RIDICULOUSLY HIGH. I think the result would be.... the premium players will continue to pay real $$ (because the convenience is still the same issue there and the real $$ will be 'cheaper' in a time sense considering how much time it would take to save up for the "barn $$" prices) and the pure free players will have more access to the the other options and will be more likely to stick around for a longer time. Plus, those high "barn dollar" prices become difficult challenges for free-players to achieve and feel good about after they do.
I honestly think that goodgamesstudios would make more money in the long run... and the game will be more fun for everyone involved.

I also am a non gold player, thank you GGS for letting us all play, if it wasn't for the players who spend on the gold, none of us would be here, their the ones paying for it all.
I sorry Darconio but neither of us will ever be ranked No. 1, but I suspect after 9 moths of playing you enjoy the game, you'll find a lot of Co-Op's got to where they're through efforts of non-gold players.
Most of the farms in my country started out with mine, the farms came after the gold run out.
Enjoy what we've got, GGS still looks after us pretty well.

I've spent hundreds of dollars on gold.

Okay. I was just wondering if anyone actually forked out money on that.
Kat.
I changed mine to black after reading your post. My granddaughter is always trying to see my dog and has a hard time finding it because of the colour. She is four and was thrilled when she saw that she was a different colour.
How people decide they want to spend their gold is really a personal choice. What is important to one person might not matter to someone else.
Having said that I do not quite understand why we must click on all the experience points attached to each trick. 1 button for training ought to suffice. It is annoying when dog happiness goes to zero and you realized you overpaid for half your crops.
I usually play with my farm minimized so I barely can see a dog.
The extra expense helps you work towards the spending Achievement. While some do not like the Achievements, they will come about naturally through regular play.
I hated the mine when it first appeared, now I really love that I will not go below 2000 Gold. Now my Fancy Houses get upgraded with that 'money'.
The Library is too new to make a final judgement on. Many of my co-op members like the feature. I am still disappointed that the non-gold players cannot participate in it as I can, but that is not within my control. Non-gold players are very valuable to our co-op, so it is not a big concern for me. I can always buy treats to help them out if needed.
Whenever the 4th Farm becomes available, I will have all the decor it needs thanks to the Roulette Wheel. After all the talk about Horses not fitting into the Farm theme, it was totally unexpected, but the rewards are nice.
I think that out of all the BigFarm animals--the dog is the one that would have the most sentimental value as most people have had connection of some kind to a dog throughout their life.
My dog is named Beau after our dog--he was Nathan's first pet and I have many fond memories of them getting into trouble together. By default, he is the correct Golden Retriever color.
