Reputation points? Evenly Matched Missions?
Missions are said to be evenly matched. I have watched carefully and competed diligently on the missions I have chosen. I conclude that the other players must have higher upgrades on the equipment they are using. Otherwise, we would at least be neck in neck. I lose reputation points each time and have to wonder "why even set up a feature like this?"? It is hard enough to earn money with this game and missions seem to be one quick way. But they cost these so called reputation points....and there does not seem to be a ready supply of them available.
Do new players reach a competitive level soon or do a lot of new farms die out from lack of income? Not enough support or explanation provided for a complicated game. A rule book and dictionary is needed.

the missions aren't working exactly as they should, sadly. As it works right now, we're basically starting a huge mission for everyone on the server, then parting all participants into groups as follows: First cut depending on accumulated reputation points, then another cut depending on the players' levels.
So, for example, if 24 players participate in one server-wide mission, there could be one group with reputation 50-100 and levels 10-20, and one with rep 100-200 and level 20-30. 4 Players wouldn't fit into any of these and would make their own group, which would be quite mixed in terms of levels and reputation.
Now, in reality, those 24 players would actually be more than 25.000 players, and with those higher numbers, more subgroups of different levels and reputation would be created automatically. Since we always try to mix 10 players into one group, and the participating players are far more varied in terms of levels/reputation, the "overflow" players who don't fit into existing groups anymore keeps getting bigger and even more varied, so that the system is no longer able to create well balanced groups of tens.
This leads to more random groups to fit everyone in, and by that some groups are created where the level and/or reputation comparison seems all over the place.
I hope I could explain it properly
Alas, there is already a complete overhaul of the missions in the planning, it just might take a while yet to get it done, because it's a massive change, and we have so many things we'd like to fix or change before that. But I hope you guys now better understand why it is how it is.
Have fun everyone,
Timo
I would like to reply on these two bolded sentences.
First of all about the RP. RP are actually nothing else but status symbols. If you want to be a top mission player, you need many of them. If you just play missions for money and XP, then do not bother about them. If they run out, you can still start missions! Missions will also easily be 'unfair' (even though the levels may match in some groups) because people use gold. Or in sell missions they pay money to win. I do not think it is worth it, but some do. There will always be something bothering you if you want to play fair, because others simply want to win. That's why I never do missions, except for the co-op project 'The chicken or the egg?'
The rule book is actually right here under your nose :P The entire forums are the rulebook of this game. You will find many tips and tricks in the equally named forum. If you take the time to read them, it will be much easier to build your farm. In that way it should be easy to reach a nice level soon. What is most important to be successful is decorations. Place as many of them as possible and you will not have a lack of profit very soon. The more decorations, the lower the costs and the more profit you make. Apples are good money factories. Invest in them and make sure you can keep them up and running to gain the most profit. And would you believe that what I just wrote here is just the tip of the iceberg of the huge resource of information that is available in these forums?
I have one issue with the answer about an organized rule book to help with learning the game process. The forum offers info but it is like looking for the proverbial "needle in a haystack" (chuckle). It would be more helpful to new players who are constantly looking for answers (like me) to have a Big Farm Encyclopaedia with a method of looking up the specific current problem for which an answer is immediately needed. Example: I could find nothing to explain reputation points and their importance...or lack thereof. (thank you for clearing that up) While I have and do read the forum, it is a random collection of information..... hundreds of posts. I looked for days to an answer to my current post.
Again, thank you so much for your response.
Did I say organized? :P The tips and tricks forum is the most clustered forum to look in first I would say. Also, our website does have a more organized way of information offering, but does not include all issues. It is mostly a source of information about and for co-ops
this one is for the forum: http://en.board.goodgamestudios.com/bigfarm/showthread.php?40280
This one is to email GGS staff:
http://www.goodgamestudios.com/about/contact/
another one in a condensed list: http://en.board.goodgamestudios.com/bigfarm/misc.php?do=showrules
and i think there is a general forum list of rules that every GGS forum has--AAANDd the terms of use and legal stuff: http://www.goodgamestudios.com/terms-conditions/
If you have a question--ask it POLITELY and there are several people that would love to point you to a relevant topic. None of us are good at guessing though.
That was all within about 5 minutes worth of looking, 25 minutes if you include my posted reply
I was talking about my own co-op website
We currently don't really have the resources and all, but if players get together to create a cool Big Farm Wiki page, I'd be all for it
This is quite contradictory with earlier messages regarding our website. Those stated you (you being GGS) wanted all farm related information in one central spot, and that spot should be the forums. At that point we ceased most of our activities on the website and Larino focused more on the forum, despite its obvious drawbacks.
LOL sometimes it works the 2nd time
If I were you, I would avoid corn or wild flower missions. People can use their nursery on them and have huge numbers right at the start. My favourite mission is sell eggs. It can get bad when the top starts buying them, but it can also end very well. Missions that are set over a longer time span are also a bit easier as they tend to be run a bit more fair. You do need persistence and a good farm for those though
Only good thing about this situation, I met a couple of really classy upper-level players - Emrys Bryn and Meme44.
Good luck!
Fortunately, the tasks to earn RP don't care if you spend them faster than you earn them, and you can still enter missions even if you have lost all your RP. So entering for 10 RP and only bringing home 3 RP is still progress towards your goal.
LOL! You've recommended that so often that I decided to try it last week selling apples with my "baby" farm and came in first completely accidentally, because it was still going for another 20 minutes when I woke up. Two temporary orchards in addition to my usual three (I've been trying to earn enough to upgrade my farmhouse or buy land if I levelled up first) plus the contents of my barns, and the active players never knew what hit them... I would have been perfectly happy tying for third place with the other sleepers if I'd slept as late as I usually do, honest! ;D
The mission was one of those where you begin chicken feed productions. I won by one point. Congratulations to all the other players. I can't find the two who came in second and third listed in the rankings. Tried entering your ID in the search box but it can't find you.
I would love to know how you did some of the moves you made....not that I expect you to share your secrets with me. No harm in asking I hope. Maybe I will play a mission with you again soon.
Congratulations!
