Try to fulfil the tasks to have a bit of a guide. Also, do make sure your happiness is high! Invest in decorations, because if your happiness is high you can make more money and you can pay for upgrades and new buildings much easier.

Since you've got plenty of unused space, try to buy the land at the far left as, unless they've changed things, the lake is hidden there which is the highest value decoration you can buy without spending gold, worth $250,000 and isn't normally available until level 47. It gives you 38 happiness points. Try to keep your running costs between 0% and -50% until you no longer need to buy prodcution facilities - too far either way beyond this is inefficient in my opinion.

Corn -> mill -> coop -> dung -> silo -> apple orchard -> composter is the most profitable production sequence, but it means that you have to be playing the game a lot which is why some people find it easier to sow cabbage -> mill -> pig sty -> dung -> silo -> apple orchard -> composter which is less profitable but takes less of your time. The cow byre is even less profitable but takes a lot less of your time.

I'm unusual in that when I was developing my farm I chose to have lots of level 1 stables eg coops rather than fewer, of higher level. This means you need less houses which means your running costs are lower, but you need more feed and the mill becomes a major bottleneck until you can upgrade it at level 17.

thats right, keeping your happy up is important. Not all the task are in your best intrest. Do not over build your farm to quickly. If I could do it over I would wait for my 2nd barn. It takes up lots of space.
Im helping LillyBugDragon (in person) and she is able to keep making money withour spending real cash.
