Becoming dis-satisfied
We were enthralled about the Asian theme brought into the game and planted rice crops twice before understanding that that RICE was costing what limited gold we each had for each acct in my household.
We/I am at this point going to continue to play BUT only until we each have spent what gold remains on our collective accts on farm expansion then we all will walk away.
When a company begins introducing more and more methods of enticing players to spend real money, it only indicates to us that said company is more concerned with raking in the monies than ensuring players are able to enjoy the game without spending money.
Perhaps one day this game will be more player friendly in that designs that entice and sometimes find players spending gold when they initially are unaware they did will cease, perhaps it would behoove you to make Certain that a player knows when something they are doing is going to cost them gold BEFORE they have spent said gold.
Wanted to add to this that given the fact that before the Asian theme portion was added, I never had to pay gold to plant a crop led me to that dammnable click when planting rice, since I never had to pay out gold to plant other crops, it never occurred to me that I would be paying gold to plant those rice fields. Over the course of 2 days, between my farm and the farms of the other 3 family members, we planted over 30 rice fields before I became aware that it was actually costing us gold. Thankfully I happened to be looking by chance at the gold notation at the top of screen when I clicked again rice and noted the gold dropped down and thus looked realizing that each unit was costing 85 gold, none of us have planted anymore rice.

It's your fault, as GGS couldn't have made it any more obvious.
Quit trying to find someone else to blame and take responsibility for your own actions.
How many days do you go into work and tell them no need for it to reflect on your paycheck?
Look, you can play the game w/o dropping a single dime.
If you don't like the gold coins, just don't use them.
I've not seen a single event, msn, etc that REQUIRED gold.
I never bought rice, completed the Asian event and still have 9 rice seeds in my inventory.
I think you're upset that you made a mistake and are looking to blame the people that let you play it FOR FREE.

This is a family stating they will start playing for free. They did not mind spending gold, but feel the company has been getting devious in their methods to click on the gold.
If you came home one day and found you had taken out a $30 000 car loan for a wrecked 30 year old car that you did not buy you might be upset. Then you look and the guy clearly had a sign on his lawn that said if you walk in front of my house you indicate a legal obligation to buy my car, and so now you own a wreck.
This game is AIMED at kids and families.
This family is not concerd about buying gold and sounds like they have been good customers with 4 farms.
The family is saying that the game seems to have methods to trick people into spending gold. If you haever fastforwarded a build/harvest because you clicked FF by accident then you have been tricked into spending gold.
It would be easy for the game to have confirm buttons but they do not.
If you want to make a purchase then that is fine, but tricking people into spending money is not ethical.
I noticed the crops cost gold, as did the beanstalk crops on the event before, and even started a thread about it because it seemed like it was a way to dupe children into spending their parents money without realizing it.
These people have every right to be upset, and they have lost several customers due to these cash crops alone. I have also stopped buying gold because of them.
The pay should be earned. Tricking people into purchases is not ethical.
I am sure many could say they saw the crops were for sale, but if you tell your kids they can plant anything they want because it's free and then all of a sudden its not, then it seems the unwary were targetted.
and where did u read that they'd spent any money on the game?
fact is the game gives u gold and Mom and Dad control the credit card. gold on the game is not real money, ie no cash value

We knowingly have purchased some gold primarily for the purpose of farm expansions not for crop planting. I do believe that when anything OUT of the ordinary everyday running of our farms will entail spending gold it would be fair and to have some type of warning if you will where a box pops up saying "are you certain you wish to spend 85 gold per unit on planting this crop" at least then in the event we do not note that said crop will cost gold, we are given a warning and a chance to opt out.
Perhaps just me but I think it is only common courtesy when the game strays from the everyday norm of crops etc costing cash as in cash earned via the running of our farms on a daily basis to make certain your customers know full well what they are about to do.
I or we would love to continue playing the game but at this point, I am unsure that in the absence of a warning system that is a wise decision for us. We are a multi generational home with ages ranging fro pre school to senior citizens so even when in game, I am not always paying strict attention to new things added in and the new things are coming in rapidly.
Implementing a system that generates a players CONFIRMATION of impending gold expenditures would to me be a very wise and fair move.
I happen t like having a heads up when I am about to spend gold which was bought for one purpose on another purpose.
Personally, I would get annoyed if I had to always click on a confirm button if I wanted to use gold. That being said, I have accidentally sped something up with gold clicking on the wrong button, but I put it down to my error for not paying enough attention to what I was doing at the time.
GGS does not make anyone spend gold, and I don't believe they resort to trickery. I hope you rethink your plan to leave and stay, your family can have a great deal of fun with this game.
(sorry if this doesn't make sense. I can't put the right thing into the right words!!!)
I am not sure how bad your math skills are or if you are playing the same game as the rest of us, but how much gold does farm expansions cost on your game?
The game does give little drops of gold here and there, but nothing of any great significance. You can argue that they have been saving free gold since the very beginning of this game to be able to afford 850 gold in rice and make land purchases, but it seems a bit far fetched.
I myself have walked away from purchases over an unrelated matter. Their purchase pages say "15000 gold +15%", and when you buy it you get 15000 gold. Apparently they say the 15% is already calculated into the 15000.
If I see 15% off a price I expect to pay less. I do not expect the store to say, "Oh, we already calculated in the -15%". It is trivial, but it is false advertising, and I disliked it.
Now back to them.
They say they are going to walk away, but I have not. I just quit buying gold. The new Sim City game costs $60 and I have spent more than that so it is their own fault I am not feeding them anymore. I think they just meant they will not buy any more gold or WHY ELSE WOULD THEY EXPAND THEIR FARMS before leaving.
If you use good math and common sense before commenting rudely you would realize these things without explanations needed.
What math did you use to understand that game gold has any cash value?
Better yet, please let me know where I can redeem mine.
It does sound like a feature that would be very easy to add.
The only time I use gold is in missions where the pop up box would def slow me down.
Maybe it would be better if your idea was a parental control option that could be turned on or off?
Maybe even an option with a password feature so the young 'uns don't disable it?
What do you think?
I personally would love an "are you sure you want to spend this" button for using gold, to avoid the blonde clicking I do once in a while. It would be irritating and giving time loss during missions, but then again, if everybody has to confirm their gold use in missions, everybody would have a similar timeloss.
Maybe the irritating, multiple clicking part of such a button while doing missions can be overcome by also being able to click enter to get it away. That way you can do it 2-handed and get less time loss.

This is where you can see that Gold has Cash Values, as I guess it was not obvious enough.
The link doesn't work.
And I think connerk2 was referring to the fact that game gold has no value outside of the game. Once you acquire it - whether via game reward or purchase - it is game currency, similar to farmdollars.
There have been variety of updates implementing new features and events and while those are all great and welcomed, having a lot of people experiencing the same type of issue for a variety of reasons should climb up the priority list.
The main thing here is that it's an ongoing issue and one that has been in existence for a while now. When is GGS going to address it?
I have done it myself, bought beans when I didn't mean to. My fault yes, too click happy I guess!
It is even easier because they give you some free seeds to get you planting them. A reseed button used wrong there might be costly. Unsure if that works or not, but the point is only that it changes from free to paid.
