"LIKE" button on posts

mai15mai15 Posts: 185
I really miss a "like" button on posts. I do not need a dislike button so people can use it to stir things up...just the" like "possibility. Sometimes a like is enough and we wouldnt always have to write posts and make a mess of all threads 8)

I like the idea, i just don't understand exactly what you are asking for. Is it for your own use or so other people can see whether you approve or not--like a vote?
I like parts of most ideas offered, but rarely embrace whole proposals.
Or, is it so that you can mark your own preferred threads so that you keep returning to the same one--Like when someone asks the question of why they are stuck on the egg challenge.

Or, it could be something else LOL.

A like button is an excellent suggestion, if there was one already I could have liked your post instead of typing this one out :-)

Monica.....I mean like a vote yes, to say i agree or like what is written by another player instead of typing that i like it like aussiefarmgal here had to do ;)

They could just place the button next to the edit, reply, reply with quote....and then like

ooooh i like the idea, but i would also like to know why they like it or don't like it. And as i said in my other post in this thread--I rarely agree with the whole proposal. And if i say I like the thread--am i permanently locked in to that decision?

No Monica...I do not think about whole threads...just if i want to like ONE post in a thread. A lot of times people say something i wholeheartedly agree with. In those cases i would like to be able to click" like" to show that person that i am in agreement with him or her. If i just agree with certain elements in that post i would have to write a post myself...not just click "like" :)

Most other discussion forums have them, but it always becomes cliquey and for that reason, I'm against.

I dont understand cliquey...Does it mean people are just liking certain peoples posts...or ?

I like the idea...if it becomes a contest as to who's post is best, so be it...would just like the chance to use it. Be safe and God bless.

That is not what i want. Sometimes i even "like" very much posts made by people i usually dont agree with much ;) For me it would just be a tool to make it possible to show that i really liked that particular post ;)
    Be safe to Irish :)

I am still not sure what you are asking for LOL. I just don't get it.
And there are already enough unofficial popularity contests on the forum right now--Do we really need an official one? So I think I am leaning more toward 'no' at this point. Sorry ;(

I think if you have a "like" button, you might as well have a "dislike" button, like the "thumbs up/thumbs down" system. After all, in the "like"-only system you can be just as negative by liking someone's rude post. I like the general idea, though. It would keep the number of posts down since you wouldn't need 100 people adding text posts just to agree with what the first person said. All subsequent comments would add new information to the topic instead of simply validating them. Unfortunately, I don't think this message board system allows for that feature, so it's a moot point.

Yes...it would keep the number of posts down, and the threads would be easier to navigate.
Monica...i dont understand why we should always think that people would use everything in a negative way. I do not feel that some people are more popular then others here...I can see that some people are doing a great job researching and providing information for the rest of us...But this is a GOOD thing, isnt it ? I dont think they do this to become popular.
The few times i missed a "like" button the most has been when someone said something very funny and i just wanted to "like" the post as a way of laughing WITH them. In those cases they didnt bully anyone or get personal with other players...they said something funny about themselves....
I could of course write :hahaha..which i do now we dont have a "like" button, but it would be easier and keep the threads more on topic if we had one . Thats all i want :)

I think this is a great idea!!!

But! this is Big Farm and not Facebook. We can't really suggest similar things because it is copyrighted by Facebook. (I think so)

We have the same feature in our newspapers in the comment fields here in Norway. I dont think this is a Facebookthing :)

You could "Upvote" and then violate Reddit terms of copyright instead of Facebook's. ;)

A foolish question...in some games, player can create a poll at the top of their thread and other players can vote on the question/suggestion by checking one of three or four choices...do we have something like that here on Big Farm??? Thanks for any info. Be safe friends.

Ehh, Facebook was not even the first one using a like(/dislike) function, and far from the only. There is no and cannot be a copyright on the function to like a post/comment/...

So don't worry about Facebook coming after you to sue. Perhaps Apple will try, they have some strange ideas about copyright and stealing ideas sometimes. ;)

I've seen a lot of forums use Like / Dislike buttons and in a way it's a good idea.
But there's 1 thing I don't like about it, because I wanna know WHY!
    Why do you like it?
    Why don't you like it?

With just a like / dislike button, or even just a like button, where's the discussion?
If you only have a like button, everyone who likes it, get too lazy to post why they like it, so all you'd get then is negative comments and a bunch of "likes" without any counter arguments

You don't need a "like" button AND an explanation section. That is what the discussion board as a whole is for...

I agree with Jaystarr and Astragek. I usually do and am able to put that into words instead of clicking a like button. We're not facebook, just use your spelling, grammar and writing skills to tell someone that you like his or her post and why.

See, I am managing to type a lot, and not say a lot at all :P

I dislike the like button :P

Ok...I get it....but, I am also able to spell and write (a little at least ) although i am not English speaking;)

I would also use words instead of the "like" button when words were needed just like i use the quote button when i want to quote something and i do not use it when i dont need it.
Sometimes a "like" is enough...and using the like button would keep the threads shorter and easier to navigate. This is all i wanted..and i dont think people would stop commenting if we had a like button.
