yes Jaystarr--i used to love helping out on the forums, but lately i have not so much for 2 reasons:
    A. I can't find the information relevant to the topic through the pile of spam posts
    B. For every answer i give--i run the risk of offending someone. Now instead of just a nasty pm--they can send a prank to mess up my farm while i sleep.
Just makes me sick. I am all for sending a gift--to an Established friend, like for their Birthday. I am sure Emrys would love umm ... pile of poo to make more fertilizer. We don't even know what the gifts are to send.
Sigh ... Just wake me up when the update is over.

The workday is over in Europe already, so the devs aren't at work right now. (And in Australia it's no longer even the 29th.)

I think there's an additional suggestion here: how about the proposed updates are given much more ahead of time?

Right now the updates are given the week before they come out. But a week is not very long to work on an update in terms of tweaking it, fixing bugs, cleaning up how the finished product looks etc. Recoding can take a long time if you want it to work smoothly. So why not give us updates two weeks in advance, so we don't have this anticipation of something not well developed coming down the pipes?

I am grateful that the devs did not try to push through some half-baked update today that would have caused more problems, and that they are going to spend more time working on it (presumably in light of the objections we have raised).

Also as a sidenote, did anyone actually suggest that we have pranks? I know there were a lot of suggestions in the forums for when people wanted to gift their friends or help them out, but did anyone actually offer a suggestion for the opposite where you could prank people or interfere with their farms? Or is this something the devs came up with themselves?

I agree! If I wanted a sabotage game, I wouldn't have looked for a peaceful game. This will cause some bad feelings among players.

Emrys, personally I don't think it is the role of the mods to side with the game and its developers; they might feel like they should or something, but I don't think it is (or should be) in the job description of the mod to actively promote the game. Mods are drawn from the pool of players and in a way they should be players first. (CMs might be a different issue though.)

As I stated in my post, I have known mods and still currently know them in other GGS games. Of course it doesnt state them in the job description. Its something that is discussed privately. It would look really bad for the company if a mod was putting down something the game was doing.

Again Im not putting down the mods. Most of them do an INCREDIBLE job, but they will always look at the positive side of things and not list the negative. If I was a mod and in their position I would do the exact same thing.

Monica, I would love to be gifted a pile of poop from you anytime :D

Where are the gifts and pranks actually GIVEN to you? It says a shop but no explanation is given. The post doesn't say anything at all to extend on the shop part. Does it turn up randomly or what?
There is a tab in Inventory for storing your gifts and pranks.
Also, Ive been playing GGS games for almost 3 years now. The mods and CM's will always side with the game and developpers. I know thats your job. And I think Kat is an AMAZING mod, but she wont say anything negative.

I know this for a fact because in Farmer the mods did the same thing and then when they were shutting it down and they quit, they came to the forum and told us all this and how they really felt about everything.
Thank you for your really kind words Emrys. :)

I know this is a little off topic but I do wish to reply so please let me explain my position here a bit more. I really do love this game. It's the reason why I was (and still am) happy to volunteer so much of my time to the forums so that others such as yourself can have a similar experience as I do. Are there things that I would change about the game? Yes, there are a few, however I keep in mind a couple of things:

    1. I'm not knowledgeable in running a business of this size and type.
    2. I'm not subject to the ultimate direction that the Dev's are working towards with Big Farm.

Because of these factors, I sit back and watch to see what's coming next. I'm really enjoying the ride so far as I feel what I believe to be wrong with the game is fairly minor in comparison with all the positives the game offers me. As for saying something negative about the game, as I've just explained, I much prefer to focus on the positives as I feel there's more than enough negativity in life without me focusing more attention on it than is required. I do have my say about the game regularly, both positive encouragement and constructive criticism where and when I feel it warrants it, however I do it directly, not on here - I have a more direct path to have my say through my contacts with GGS staff.

On here, I attempt to remain as impartial as I can though occasionally you will see me posting an opinion. My objective is to ultimately be not only impartial in the way I mod, but to be seen as being that. GGS don't demand that of me, it's simply the way I've chosen to mod.

I'm very confused about this most recent 'update' or 'special event'. I assumed it would be a recurring event, ala bees, stock lady, gold items hunk, prime time etc.. However, I can not find "the twins", but I notice now when I visit another farm there is a new icon labeled "Gifts and Pranks". When I open this icon I see I have neither in my inventory. Are the twins hidden, and this is part of the update or is this just partially implemented?

My main question is: Are gifts/pranks always available/running, or is it just a 'sometimes' thing? The wording of the update made me feel it would be only available intermittently, but the new icon makes me think it is a new feature of the game.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can clarify.

I'm sure, they start to work on an update before announcing it. Even if GGS gives us OAs earlier, it will not make any influence on when a bug is discovered and how much time it can take to fix it. On the other hand, this delay might be for implementing additional measures to protect players from possible bulling.

Anyway, I'm more curious and excited about the next event, the description sounds very interesting.

    Good Morning Big Farmers,

I thought it would be good for me to come and chip in my thoughts on some of the topics here.

Although it is slightly off topic, the issue of moderators. There is a certain amount of expectation that the mods will support the game and be careful with their posts, but that doesn't mean we control their opinions. At the end of the day thought they are still players and are as entitled to their opinions. As Kat Nip pointed out, you just don't see it on the forum because all the mods have direct contact with me. Does that mean they have to like everything about an update? No, of course not. We often have discussions about their thoughts on the game and we value their feedback as much as anyones.

Concerning the event, we never actually stated when it would start. The update did take place yesterday, but you shouldn't assume that an event will also start on the same day. After the update takes place it could be hours, days or even weeks before the new event starts.

I hope that clears up some issues.

    Regards,
    Ethan

Thank you very much for the update on the upgrade/event...however it would have been very helpful if we had been told ahead of time that the 29th was not the start of the event. Maybe in the future everything will be set before the event/upgrade is posted on the forum. But thank you again for letting us know that it could be hours or days or weeks or as far as the pranks go...never... before the event starts. God bless and be safe. :- ) P.S. It's 2;30 a.m. in Chicago...so I can log off and not worry about pranks...hahaha

The event has started in Australia, I do wish though, that there was at least one prank and gift which could be purchased with cash, even if it was like a million dollars or something, would just help people who don't/can't purchase gold to participate.

Off to go buy some gold now!

Also, do the players who get gifts receive Karma?

I think that it should be that if you get a prank played on you, then you should get a karma point, if you play a prank you should loose karma points and then if you gift someone you should earn karma points and if someone gifts you, then you should loose karma points.

Much like Karma in real life.

I see that you can only buy gifts or pranks with gold. I already spend sufficient money on gold to help my farm and don't intend to spend money to prank anyone. I would buy gifts if I could use dollars.

I wan't terribly impressed with the concept to begin with - very open to causing bad feelings amongst players.

I will pass on this - thanks anyway :(

As I can see now, those pranks and gifts are quite expensive - 250-850 gold each. So, if you are not a gold player and want to give a gift to your friend, this is not for you.

I dont think i would spend millions on a gift that just slightly speed up something...so....As for the pranks....i dont know anyone i would like to use it on so much that i would spend millions to do it.
I do however feel there should be something nice for everyone in a event....even if you dont buy Gold !

Some of the pranks take much longer to wait out then what was promised by one of the mods. They can deactivate our apples and cherry orchards for 35 minutes, our mill for 25 minutes, and other workingbuildings for 15-20 minutes depending on the prank you buy. Stables are 15 minutes.
If we are in a middle of a one hour mission this will of course destroy the mission for you if someone decides to use a prank on you. This will make it even harder to gain the rep poits needed in projects for the coop. I still dont like this event at all :(

This is a stupid update. At least one gift and prank should be bought with cash.I don't have any golds (only 52). Every item is to be bought with golds and that stupid KARMA points.

Nabil....This game portrays real live very well. The Upper Class gets the meal whilst the workers get the crumbs, and now the upper class was given a tool to also take the crumbs. The middle class...those of us that are buying a little bit of Gold feel a little bit better because they can sort of join in...a little bit ;););)

1 karma point per gift / prank.

And to Camii, you better go repair your meadow!

Oh and to Malreyn, thanks for your explanation :)

Well I guess it was a tempest in a teapot...lol...most of us don't have that many friends who like us enough to spend 250 t0 850 gold to help or pranks us...if our not friends want to spend "real money to hurt our farms, oh well so be it...can't see much bullying at these prices.

I can see why, but we never announce the exact times and dates of any ingame events in advance of it starting. I don't see any real reason why anyone should assume this one would be any different.

That isn't actually what i said though. Once pranks have been purchased they can be used no matter if the event is running or not. My statement was that any event introduced in a new update could be hours, days or weeks before it is seen in the game.

For those making comments about only being able to purchase with gold or karma, i believe Latten had already stated that previously. However, look at it from a different point of view. If people are spending gold to purchase them its less likely that you are going to be hit with a prank. Will this be changed in the future? Maybe, it's too early to say at the moment.

    Ethan

Well the Naughty & Nice Event was interesting, and short. My co-op had a bit of fun with it, but though the developers would make a lot more money if they lessened the cost as more players would participate. Our team gifted to players who had no gold so they could collect 3 karma to buy a gift/prank themselves. So basically the gold players, in my co-op anyway, are helping the non-gold players, and, I am by no means wealthy, this is a game that relaxes me and I enjoy spending time and some dollars in it. So yes, we had some fun, and yes it could seriously sway a mission etc if you were not fast enough or didnt have enough gold to repair the prank, but overall not much harm done. I do believe that the superhumus and super products cost less and give more in % but I may be incorrect on that.

But overall I had a laugh and it was lovely to give a gift "finally" to my teammates.
