Freezing Lag

This has been an issue for a while but I keep forgetting to mention it.

Sometimes after switching to another tab or window and then switching back to Big Farm, the screen will partially freeze and move at a very slow speed. When this happens, you usually have to refresh to do anything at a reasonable speed again, but you can do still do most things although they will take longer. However, one thing you can't do is hover over the information part of an end of mission pop-up. Then there is no way to find the base amount of reputation points from that mission as the pop-up can't be accessed anywhere else after the mission.

It would be greatly appreciated if the lag could be fixed in this situation.

One other issue that relates to the mission pop-ups at the end of a mission is that if you are in the layout mode when a mission ends, the pop-up immediately appears and then disappears.

At first glance, this seems to be a browser related issue, what browser are you using?

I'm using the Brave browser but this has also occurred with Google Chrome. I don't think it's related to the browser for that reason. I think it also occurs more frequently while missions are active.

I also have the freeze happening when I have DW & normal farm open on different tabs, game becomes unplayable. I have to close 1 tab to unfreeze the other. This has been happening now for several months.
I am using windows edge & don't have any other problems with it.

It would be so nice to be able to have both open & playable at the same time  :)

The recommended browsers are Google Chrome and Mozilla as they deliver the best BigFarm experience, is your RAM 4GB or above?

I'm not really using Google Chrome for Big Farm anymore as the lag still appears on that browser as well as adverts. My ram size is 4GB.

I have the lag, but it actually is more of a freeze.  Playing on Chrome.  Sometimes clicking on another farm, then back quick will clear it... sometimes I have to refresh the whole game.

I have the problem too. It happens equally on chrome, firefox, opera and brave, as well as on different computers in different parts of the house. I don't think it's a browser issue either.

Do you have issues when you use mozilla?

Can you try chrome or mozilla? since they support html5 at the best.

Unfortunately, we are not able to reproduce this, so this happens basically when something is not right.

LOL - obviously something isn't right. This is a very, very slow speed when it happens. Like ninjahuman & carjola indicated, it happens when more than 1 thing is open, whether it's another tab or another program, and happens when returning to regular farm from another place. Playing DreamWorld in 1 tab and regular farm on the other can trigger this. Working in a word document can trigger it also. Not every time, but when it happens, well let's just say pro sports slo-motion replays are faster than watching the farm harvest a single production with all it's bubbles. I'll try to pay more attention to when it happens, but it is when I've been logged on & playing for at least 15 minutes. It is not something that happens after playing just a few minutes. If I clear cache & temp folder, the issue clears. But this is not a convenient thing to do sometimes, especially if I'm trying to beat a clock on some harvests.

Hmm this is an issue for all games and its common. Games on 2 tabs uses more RAM than 3-5 tabs with just some random articles. This will of course slow down the performance.

And specially a game which has a lot of events overlapping it's a heavy load which will use even more memory.

Of course there won't really be a problem with other tabs with news or random articles cause it doesn't have much graphics and motions.
If this game was a mobile application instead I'm pretty sure your phone would hang up quickly.
Some browsers cannot handle a lot of tabs open and there are some browsers coming up with solutions for that.
I also recommend not opening a lot of tabs specially along with this game , the site can crash and you will have to keep clearing the cache again and again.

    Thanks Jesse123, but .....
having a spreadsheet or word doc open to keep notes about the game is something a lot of players do. Having one of those open, logging into forum here &/or having dream world open at the same time as my regular farm are all things I've been doing for a long time. It is only more recently that this lag & freeze started randomly happening. For me, it also happens when I have just an article in a 2nd tab open, for something to read. I hadn't mentioned it, until I saw ninjahuman's post about it. Since it's happening to him & carjola too, I thought maybe there's something with an update that's causing this issue for more than just us. Hope if others have the issue, they post here too.

Since they added Greta's DW, it & Tessa's DW were back to back without a break in-between, it becomes more often to want a DW & reg farm open at the same time in 2 tabs. I hope the culprit to this is discovered &/or wiped out in an update soon.

    A strange trick :)

But i had trouble playing dream world in 2 different tabs , now i move my 2nd tab ( for dream world to a complete different window , and it seems to provide much less lag to both farms open :)

Interesting. Thanks, I'll try it!  It won't help when it's a spreadsheet or word doc, but if it helps with 2 tabs, I'm 1/2 way there ;-)

I tested Mozilla and although it didn't freeze as badly, the game was noticeably slower overall when compared to Google Chrome. It is confusing why this is happening on Google Chrome though if it is supposed to be one of the main browsers that the game recommends.

I'm not playing other computer games on other tabs. I am just reading other topics but the freezing issue still appears. A while ago I was able to even play a game on another tab and Big Farm wouldn't freeze when I returned to it, but now it freezes when you don't even do anything.

yeah so chrome has something called Tab discarding. Which was suggested by many because opening many tabs drains your battery , and when a game is open in the background , it drains even more.

Pages can be frozen when they are not visible so they consume less power, CPU and memory.
Once a page is frozen, it cannot run any tasks. To know complete details of which tab is frozen you go to
    chrome://discards
Not only chrome but other browsers have this feature.

Below is from Microsoft Edge  ( edge://discards )

    A more closer look

The reason why youtube and the article won't freeze is because the page has a Weblock of its own.

You can check these stats by yourself.  chrome://discards  ,  edge://discards etc

So yeah , your issue is caused by the browser itself.
There is no permanent solution to this. You may have to download third party extensions like Disable automatic tab discarding - Chrome Web Store (google.com)
I have never tried that extension , but you can.

Auto Tab discarding can be useful for low-end computers.
I haven't tried what Exxy has mentioned , it may work. But doing that will also freeze the page. It depends on how long the tab has been idle.

Also if you have the latest version of Chrome then expect this feature , This feature is what every browser is going to improve in the future. Microsoft will take a step further and will give you a choice to completely freeze a tab when not in use.

Try the same in mobile , open different tabs including the game. The game will later show that it has lost connection.

You can expect a solution for this from different browser in the future.

Thanks for the information. It probably happens while I am playing missions and switch to the forums as the other tabs don't appear to freeze.
