READ the forum!!! Keep an eye on the Official Announcements constantly and read all posts of Latten/Nafaru!
It has all been mentioned in the Official Announcements. And Benny Buddler's truck (the green van) had a timer on it, so one could have known the truck would leave 2 days after the island finished.
Do your reading and you will be informed accordingly!
And in case you are afraid to forget about something, just use an alarm clock as I do. I reminded my coop-members 8 hours before Benny would leave, to trade their shells in time!
Mr. Latten, presuming you are responding to my post, it makes me wonder if you really mean what you said. Is it really intended as it is?
Is it intentional, that the Island event lures players into a trap, which slows their progress down without providing any advanced warning and any solution afterwards?
Is it intentional design that players should pay penalty in terms of lost proffit from the boat for just starting island event tasks?
Is it intentional to force players into playing Island event every time after they played just once, or pay the penalty of slowed down boat for the rest of their game?
Let me repeat myself. It's ok that the boat cannot leave when all 4 slots are not filled as in "non-island" version.
It's not ok that the boat cannot leave due to unavailable event produce, and especially so when there is NO Island event running to provide needed comodities. Unless it really is intentional to punish players for being so silly and starting the Island event before reaching at least level 50, or starting it at all.
Figgure that one out.
That is a link to a nice, comprehensive post by Nafaru regarding this issue and the plan with the "greenhouse to ship to horse area" cycle. Everything related to the Island works well for more established players. I think that was the GGS goal - to keep higher level players interested in the game once they maxxed out their main farms. It also provides some fun for lower level players. Unfortunately, we are accustomed to more easily attainable goals. I agree that it would be encouraging to offer concessions, and I personally would encourage lower level players to focus on their main farms until at least level 50, and wait to play the Island later. It will be back.
However, if you look at the ship as a bonus that you get a couple times a day, and a bigger bonus if you can send it full - right away - so you get in an extra shipment, it's not a bad deal.
I am not a heavy gold user, but have been playing the game for a good while now. It has been fun for me to see the changes. I do see more bonuses and incentives for gold use, but I understand that profit is the GGS goal, as they are a business. Some of the last prizes for the Island were unattainable without gold use. It was still possible to finish the island without gold though. And, it is still possible to send the ship without greenhouse goods - just not right away - for most everyone.
This whole game is all about balance. I love the strategies. Enjoy the game for the challenges it brings and the advancements and achievements you have made.
This thread was well done, Kamilcom. You had a valid concern and offered a solution. The moderators responded quickly. It's good to have an answer right away, even if it's not what was in your proposal. I would encourage you to continue to bring up suggestions for improvements and advice, and to read the forums regularly. That's how we all learn and attain more insight with this game.
Thanks!
Very good post! Totally agree! THANKS!
This game is indeed full of challenges, difficulties, brainteasers, etc. ... as a game befits. Love to figure out all the different strategies and to carefully overthink every step before taking them (using as less gold as I can)! ^^
My point is rather clear: Island with its results for the boat is not a challenge for level 30, but a rip-off in terms of game economy. No gain, just loss. Without warning. Whatever Nafaru and others may add to that, trying to justify the development for much higher levels, it doesn't change anything on this simple fact, that it's a rip-off for level 30. It doesn't "seem" as set back, it simply IS A SETBACK. I suppose with a bit of fresh view nobody should find it difficult to recognise that. No need for political correctnes here, just call it what it is. Be honest.
So this messed the boat and the best advice for those below level 50, or maybe even a lot higher, would be "don't start the island, cause it will cost you". Btw pretty much everybody would agree with above advice, which gives out the tale quite plainly.
Now if there is a good will, the solution is still simple. Give the players a button to lock the island slots in the boat, maybe till they start next island event again, maybe limit the use of this button bellow certain level, like bellow 50 ....... many different details how to go about sorting this mess out ............ if just a bit of good will and common sense is there ........
Another solution from players point of view is just to close the account down and start afresh, without Island obviously. Or quit playing completelly.
To say the least, all this mess certainly does not encourage me to continue playing. And believe me, it's not becouse I don't like challenges. What I don't like is the fact that players are in a way being tricked into this trap. Which I find dishonest and quite disgusting, even though it happened just in a game. It's like saying "eat this sweet tasting candy" but not telling you that you will vommit for two months after you've taken it.
I would prefer the option of choosing to send my ship off with 4 items for less benefits than having to waste, imo, my time with the island event every month. I am lvl 56 and would rather concentrate on building my 3 farms on this side of the ocean rather then having to send mass amounts of money and time over to the island to gather a few seashells so I can send off a full ship.
This is just one farmers opinion.
Happy farming and good gaming to all!
Never never again am I falling for this Island think again !
I send a lot of money on this game and about to give up on it.
And this lame horse gee dont get me started on that !
I did island first time around ... then worked out how much it cost ($ and gold) only to have it all removed and be left with shells and tropical fruits I can do nothing with (below a certain number as dictated by the good Captain and Benny).
So ... When island came back I did not start building I collected $, oranges and grapes from the balloons, planted then sold oranges or whatever else I collected ... (a very boring chore I set myself).
And all the while the Captain sits in port with 4 holds full ... and when he eventually leaves there is no loading bonus.X(
I am not pointing fingers here ... my personal impression is that the Island does not work for me (and others apparently) ... where GGS go with this ... is up to them.
As an aside ... has anyone else identified the (poor) cost benefit ratio of using intensive training for their gee gee? :S
The boat comes (as i said) with request for stuff that comes with the level. But my friend said that some new stuff he got announced, - he couldn't go anyway until next level.... and the boat asks for the stuff...
What is the settings for stuff the boat asks for would match the items that the farmer actually have on the farm instead of "now you come to level 32 and therefore you must deliver peaches also".
When the farmer has bought the peach garden - then the request could come - not before.
And about giving the boat captain what he wants.
I don't like the horse farm much, so i don't care much about the shoes.. but i like the normal dollars, so when the capitain asks for fruits, i only give him the lowest amount of it because then i can give him every time - and therefore get the boat more often...

that might make it a bit fairer??
I'm pretty new to the game, and the load of ship does create problems that could be solved.
I recently played an island game (Sugar stuff). So when the game finished, the remainder of products and seeds could be used for the ship. Also the remaining money can be used to buy exotic seeds on the market.
But when the money is gone, all exotic seeds, plants and products are gone, the shipping list keeps asking for these goods. I would'nt mind to buy seeds or products if I could. But without money there's simply no way to load the ship completely. I have to wait 12 hours between ships. And as the load is payed with horseshoes, the performance of the horses is affected too.
A send button could solve this problem.
Bravo, Jiesta, so well said! This game is richly complex & the timing of each event/action has been calculated by the designers. It requires Patience & Planning, as Jiesta pointed out. Just because you can start something earlier doesn't mean you should - that is part of the strategy of this wonderful game. Nay to the send button on the ship.
You see this as a strategy, but with an unknown time the new island is launched, it isn't possible to maintain a strategy. OK, I could release the standard amount, but in the end the problem is the same. And I use humus in the greenhouse when possible.
So apart from changing the maximum amount, there's no difference.
Raven683,
I can see the whole picture, and yes, maybe I will be patient for another 100 levels.
In the end this game is a commercial project. And thus saying it is strategy and being patient is an argument for a company that makes money with it. It is not being patient that pays the company. And when you buy stuff (here gold to please the not being patient), you expect something in return.
For a customer, this is a key to decide when to leave the game. For the company when to please the customer.
I have an idea for the ship....I wish there was a "send away" button for when you don't have all the items requested. That way you don't have to wait the 5 hours before it leaves and 5 hours for it to return. What do you think? ?(
Buy it. I was just 28 cabbage short. The timer starts ticking down...or should..whether you click the ship or not.
Thanks from a rookie.
EDIT: Scissors beat me to it!
No such button should be added.
