Another GGS farm game down the drain

I can't believe the changes you guys have implemented in such a short time frame.

I play for down time, to relax, to distress and because of the friends I have made in my 9 years of playing Farmer, (still in my opinion by far your best farm game yet), Farm Fever, (another one you pulled the plug on, and now Big Farm.

I find I need to spend more time trying to keep up with how to play now with all the new additions, that I have less time chatting with fellow farmers. The game is now so bloody confusing with all that you have bombarded us with, that for me it is no longer fun to play. I would imagine any new player would be overwhelmed and confused.

For me, I'm taking a break. For now the only thing that draws me back are the dear friends I have made along the way, no longer the game which you seem determined to ruin.

Who knows, when I return there may well be another farm, or perhaps you'll add a zoo? Maybe a multi story shopping centre?

Why not add a theme park while they're at it?

Seriously, GGS should just roll out another game aimed at their desired demographics and leave Big Farm alone.

I like having more things to play with! Now the frozen edge plants right now, yes a total bummer. But the job center - we totally needed. Being able to produce mystery boxes in the factories is cool. I like this latest update.

I agree, there are great aspects to the update and total bummer parts to the other aspects.
  • So there are a lot of new features, it does not mean that you have to knock yourself out to play them all & really if they had not added all the new stuff, just how boring would it be to spend years harvesting the same old small farms over & over to do the same events & same projects & same missions, no Greta, no organic market, no ranch etc etc. The game has to evolve to keep up with the higher levels that the players reach or it wold become a total borefest & die.

The thing I love about the game now is that there is so much to do, I do not even have to try to do it all, I can pick and choose what I LIKE to do and ignore the rest without it harming my farm at all, there are even some things that I have not yet unlocked, so I can add the new features to my farm when I want to. Just because GGS adds something today, does not mean you have to play it today. :)

NO - the job center is NOT something we needed. it makes planting edges seeds a complete and total JOKE. why do we now need to hire people for money or gold in order to do something that happened naturally on it's own?  total complete waste of time and a complete FAIL

Well I didn't know that the fields wouldn't count down on their own anymore. I thought it would be a help. Like the field would take 6 hours to countdown on its own but now you could hire workers and it would take 2 hours kind of thing. I guess I was wrong because my fields are not counting down at all.  :s

Oh I know. I was just excited about the update but now I'm not sure about this job center. I thought it would be in addition to counting down. Now it seems like it takes the place of. Our co-op village has everything to build our job center except for enough spruce.

I wonder if we are supposed to produce spruce at a loss to build the center before our fields will count down? I don't know.

And then when you upgrade the job center, will you not be able to countdown fields until you can access it again? This could be a pain.

I totally agree. I refuse to let a game stress me out cause I do play this to unwind.  There is no rule saying I have to do this stuff all at once.  I pick and choose what I do now.  There is so much to do and keep me busy for a long time.

of course... that theory only works if you aren't in a co-op... if you are, they wouldn't likely take kindly to members choosing to opt out of the various parts of the game

It depends on your coop, we take it easy on village league but take it seriously on other things.

As a farmer who had played this game for 3 years and 7 months , there are some points that i agree with you Jarrad, this game is so simple and relaxing 3 years ago that I don't even have to go to forum. But after a few years of repeating the same game routine I got bored and decided to take a long break, when I came back there was new features like the market, dockyard, village league and it was confusing and overwhelming but I chose to ignore some of the features like horse ranch and market and take it easy on village and Oleg. I still havent complete any island farm either. I just enjoy with the flow of game.

I agree completely.  You can pick and choose if you play alone, but in a co-op you're letting your fellows down if you don't participate in virtually everything.

I appreciate the tremendous problem BigFarm has in that it must cater to both old time players with their farms already built up, and on the other end of the spectrum, still be simple and rewarding enough for new players to learn and build at their own pace.  It's a tough job to keep it interesting for old players yet retain the charm that drew us to this game in the first place.

And I think it's the fact of being in co-ops that causes all the upset about the new additions and complexity.  Many of us older players WOULD prefer to pick and choose the things we participate in, but doing so hurts all our friends in the co-op.   So that gives us a choice between hating what used to be a fun, relaxing game or telling all our friends to go eff off.

Perhaps a solution would be to allow the formation of sub-co-ops where groups within the co-op could band together to take on certain parts of the game that they're interested in - like the Challenge Hill or the Horse Meadow or Co-op Village.   You could have sub-group leaders and deputies, just as with the normal co-op, and members within the normal co-op could join or leave as they chose (or were enticed by the sub-group leaders.)  You could make up completely new co-op projects for each sub-group, perhaps rewarding those sub-group members with extra or special prizes.

I'm sure it would be a huge programming task to accomplish such a thing, but I believe it would make the game far more enjoyable (and much less upsetting) for a great many players.
  • Sadly, now unless you buy a lot of gold, you'll never be able to play much. Even the hard worker event is a waste of time because with the way the fields are now, you can't grow enough crops to earn anything. This deal with the work center is just terrible. Our coop can't use it (took forever to even find it) because we can't grow enough side crops to make the upgrade TO use it. The only way is to buy a lot of gold.

Like many games before it, greed has ruined it for the players. The way it is now, I will never buy gold for it. While I understand the need to make money to keep it going, pushing out people that can't afford paying every day or don't have the time to sit in front of the computer screen all day is not the way to do and it can come back and bite you.

For our coop, this is going to be the end of the line as none of us can play like this.

I like the shopping center idea......maybe we can slaughter our pigs and cows for the meat section, and sell produce from our own farms? lol

I frankly care little for the coop village anyway, apart from jetty and horse meadow I see it as nothing but a waste of farm dollars for no real end reward. Has anyone figured out what the point of it is? All it does is cause unnecessary drama, stress, and frustration and I would be first to applaud if the whole thing was scrapped.

It would be frustrating to players that care so I can understand the anger and negativity but this is typical GGS.....good update (the dockyard deep sea fishing) followed by bad update (job centre). All you can really do is take the good and try to cope with the bad or simply ignore it which can easily be done like other things in coop village.
  • It has 1 aim and 1 aim only.

    SPEND MORE GOLD!!!!

If they want to see a higher ROI and increased profits, this is not the way to go about it.  Squeezing more out of the heavy gold buyers, while running off the small guys, is not a sound business model.  Make the game fun, playable by all levels, put those safeguards against accidental spending in place, and people will start spending again.

When I first started playing, the powers that be seemed to understand the players, kept the game enjoyable, and Big Farm, for the most part, exuded a warm and friendly vibe.  Whoever is calling the shots now doesn't have a clue about anything, and seems bent on running the thing into the ground.  The environment now, frankly, is hostile and alienating.

Completely agree with Scissors & maxiroy! It's up to you what you want to play and what not. We in our coop pick and choose what we want to do and how (seriously) we want to do it ... we certainly don't want to rush through the game. Some of us participate in the horse racing, some don't ... etc. It's all about choosing. We want to do things at our own pace - and when necessary we talk things over within the coop and take decisions in mutual agreement. If things get too competitive to our taste, we leave them idle... coz we want to play to relax - nót to fight against each other or our neighbors in some harsh competition; that's why we've chosen a farming game in the first place, instead of a war game... The bigger farmers in our coop can take the heat and this way we give the smaller farmers a fair chance to expand & grow. We didn't even start doing the Village + all it's other features yet, because of the same reason .... don't even know if we ever will. If it gives joy it's worth to give it a go, but if it gives only irritation, we'll leave that prolly idle also.

  • Each to their own, regardless of what aspects you choose to play or not play... I hope you guys still get enjoyment from the game.
Truthfully, It saddens me to think I may not return, not a decision I made lightly, I was in an amazing coop who knew how to have fun.    Floaters.
I've had many great times and made some wonderful friendships in my 9 years playing GGS's farm games.

I've also seen them destroy games in the past, I see this game heading that way now... I hope I'm wrong.
Right now, I don't have the time or patience that's required.

GGS cares about two things only, themselves and how much gold you will buy.

    Happy farming.

I couldn't agree more.  And I'm glad I'm not the only one who's seen indicators that the management of the game must have changed hands at some point.  The original game is GENIUS!  Wonderful to play.  And it did attract a highly friendly and helpful group of players.  When they revamped the gourmet farm and integrated it with the Main Farm seemed to me to be an extension of that original genius.  Since then, though, the changes have mostly been in the direction of pitting players against others and creating upset.  What keeps me playing this game, even to today, is the original farms and my friends in the co-op.  None of the newer additions have enhanced that and I would be just as happy to see all them gone.

Yes, yes, and yes.  The warm vibes I felt weren't just among players, but also, between GGS and players.  Likewise, a negative environment also seems to have been created because of GGS's attitude toward the players.  No respect at all.

  • GGBF works really hard on all the improvements so that the game is constantly improving and doesn't get boring for some of the older players.  My personal opinion is that the recent update for the edge plants was NOT smart.  I don't think the edge plants are worth it if there is such a long penalty but GGBF will have to suffer the consequences of making changes like that too hard for the players to cope with.

My first response was to lash out with my anger and I did, after a couple of days sadly my thoughts and feelings haven't changed. Seems like GGBF is trying to fix something that isn't broken., I understand the need to try and keep it fresh and interesting to the older player but this is not the way to do it imho. As some have said I'll just have to pick what I play and what I don't. Won't be playing the Co-op Village just not worth it to me
