Some of the instructions for the new stuff is just insane.  And sometimes the ONLY way to figure things out is to come to the forums and dig through long winded threads.  I don't have time to take a course in how to play this "past time game."

WHY can't you people put instructions to everything RIGHT IN THE GAME?

It should be so simple.   Click a building, have a pop up say you need to add xxx  which you find at xxx
Then go to xxx click it and it may say you first need to do xxx

LIke that.   Right IN the game.

To this day I can't get oleg to use any of the boats that show up.  Rent a boat only changes it to another boat.
And do I care?   NO!  It's not fun so I just let that go.
Lately I've been letting this whole game go for days at a time.   Only checking in when teams need help.  Harvest what ever and get off.

Your overly complicated nonsense has sucked all the fun out of this.

  • Hate to point out the obvious, but IT'S A GAME!  You are suppposed to work stuff out or wait until another player posts a tutorial for you, if you can`t be bothered.

I do agree that some of the new features are lacking even basic info buttons, but I certainly would not like a step by step walkthrough such as you described, because then what would be the point? It would be too easy & boring.

As for the boats, make sure Oleg is not busy, click the boat, pay to rent the one on the left, then you get asked if you want to send Oleg or fish manually, click Oleg, then select where to go on the next window & off he goes. :)

Hey Artmaker (GB1) I don't know why you keep ranting on the same things over and over again, If you don't know something can you please ask nicely and try to figure some things by yourself, this game isn't mean for a an eight year old kid or something simple, in order to make millions in a day we have to use strategy and I myself even prepared a spreadsheet to calculate profits and losses and even have a small notebook where I wrote strategies and in game calculations. The new features like the new dockyard isnt something simple that can be explain in a word because it requires lots of maths calculations. If you want to make even a dollar from dockyard you have to calculate even though you hate maths. Some people had posted a very long and useful guide, instead of ranting here use the search button.

  • I agree with Artmaker   and I think GG needs to fix  what is broken before they do all this other stuff.....
Can someone send me a map of all this?  I am also a repeater . I can't not FISH  ! no boat  nothing  reel broken . and the cat wants fish . come on already  no one in Fire and Ice can do any fishing . . So Artmaker keep writing your idea's  loving them .

I agree with @Artmaker (GB1) too. My biggest complaints are the lack of Gold lock, Lack of in-game instruction and Bugs that never get fixed.

No kidding, it is a game  @RunsWivScissors(GB1, and although you might enjoy the 'trying to figure it all out', some of us just want a relaxing farming game at the end of our busy workday, not a 'try to figure everything out because the game designer gives no info' game with a million side-shows. And going to a forum to learn how to play the game is not enjoyable to many of us, especially when there are hundreds of posts on the subject. I am not expecting a step by step walk-through, but at least a hint or 2 to get started.
I figured out fishing and deep- sea fishing, but really don't enjoy them. Yeah you can earn good money on deep-sea fishing, so I do it, but  I thought this is a farming game. I can't believe I now need a notepad and calculator to play a relaxing farm game.

As others pointed out, games come with instructions.  Not this one.  And some things I've asked over and over and never get a reply.

As for oleg, AS I SAID….
    He's NOT busy.
He's level 17 so qualifies for boat rentals.
I click rent on the rubber raft,
I GET NO PROMPTS TO SEND HIM FISHING OR GO FISHING AT ALL!
The boat immediately changes to another boat, now showing the raft isn't available for awhile, and oleg is still standing on the pier.

    SO what have I missed?

By the way, I did NOT use any profanity here.  I'd like to know what was removed from my first post.

Alright Artmaker I will make a clear guide for you, this one step by step on how to send oleg to fish . After 1 hour click on Oleg, he's standing with all your fish. Done! Its pretty simple

Ok, THIS TIME it actually worked….. sort of.   I swear the last time all that happens is the boat changes to another one and no further menus showed up.
This time I took a screen capture of the whole thing.   Now I still have questions.

Hope this movie works.  If not I could put it on youtube. (For the world to see???)
    http://artmakersworlds.com/testing/BigFarm/GAMEfishing.mov

Now… clicking on the boat to "rent" it, DID immediately change it to another boat?
Then with the option to "BUY" it.    Confusing right there.

Now his fishing menus actually showed up this time.   NO CLUE how long he goes, or if there is any way to know what mix of fish he will come back with.
What does the "bonus" actually mean?   More fish?  More money for the fish?  XP points?  WHAT?

Finally, if he's out on a boat, why is he still standing on the pier with a boat parked on the next pier over?
Is this something the graphics department just never finished?

(Kinda like no matter what color horse you sent out to train, they all turn yellow.)
  • Scifi (GB1)Scifi (GB1) GB1 Posts: 78

Yea the graphics are too fixed to Oleg standing at the pier.   But if his rod is moving, he is fishing.

Hover over Oleg to see what fish he is catching...   If you had chosen the larger options in your video, he would have caught 400, or so, of each type of fish...  very profitable.

    1) We cant buy boat, when we click on cart and send oleg to fish it means we're renting the boats. Yes it immediately changes to yellow color boat

    2) He went fishing for an hour , just click on him and he will show what mix of fish he's fishing

    3) GGS probably too lazy to sent oleg somehwere so they make him standing on the pier while fishing.

Tips: If you send out expensive boats why do you rent the cheapest boats available? You wont even cover the cost of the boats. Cheaper boats are for cheaper fish. While expensive boats like the Longboat are for hogfish, grouper and mahi-mahi.

Oh now that's pretty cool.  and he's only out for an hour,  ok.   Three farms now it finally seems to be working. I swear though, for the longest time all that happened was the boat changed and no menus came up.
    working now.

Why can't the graphics team just have the boat pull out the same way the cargo boat does?

For that matter, when  you manually go fishing, no matter what pole he has, it looks the same.  And what's up with the pole attached to the pier with no one holding it?    Robotic fishing there?  lol.  (Or the team was too lazy to animate a character, or even just an arm holding the pole.  Whatever.)

As for the question about renting the cheap boat, I just wanted to finally see how this works.  So far it never has.  Plus he still needs to catch a butt load of carp.

Hey at least he doesn't come back with a boat needing tens of thousands of dollars in repairs.   Hope he never meets Yarnical out there.
  • I'm fully agree.  I don't  want to "full walkthrough" - I just want to  "detailed manual".  I don't want to  play blind. I want to  know HOW exactly game is working ->  if I have this, I can  work out my own unique strategy, instead of  constantly asking another players to tell me "how to play in this weird feature".
  • @Artmaker (GB1) Good job & nice video :)  As Ryune said, with that big boat you could have gone for one of the bigger locations, as they were all available to you,  this is how the options look if you only have a small boat:

If you send Oleg you don`t need to keep replacing equipment, but you only get FXP if you go yourself.
  • Artmaker (GB1)Artmaker (GB1) GB1 Posts: 1,495
Well it's been working.  Sweet!  It must have been glitchy all this time cause I swear, I'm not crazy, I just never got that menu to go fishing or send him.  Works now.

As for picking the smaller spots, he still has tasks to fill so if I need a particular fish, one spot offers six kind but another only has three, wouldn't the odds be better if he sticks with the spot with less competition from other fish?

As for FXP…. are you saying I can NEVER level him up unless I fish?   I find the manual fishing really frustrating and dumb.  While reeling in the line, the fish should NOT be moving further away.   And in real fishing, there is no timer.  One can work a fish until either the line breaks or you get the fish.
I just don't find it fun so no point in doing it.

(Keep in mind, I don't care for real fishing either.  If you need tires, a shoe, a treelimb or heck, got a live seagull once.  no kidding on that.  Just ask me to fish.  I fish now with a go pro camera on my dive mask.  Or at the supermarket.)

you can level up FXP by sending oleg for experience, instead of fishing yourself.
  • @Artmaker (GB1) you also get 50 FXP for achieving the daily task of catching bass. Of course, this isn't much...but it's better than nothing! :)

Here's the number of fish you get from each location, how much they're worth, and which location is the "best" (in terms of profit) for each boat type:

If you need a *specific* fish to complete a task (like 150 catfish or something), you can use the above chart to find out which one gives the most of that fish for the boat type you have. (like Wild River would give you 622 Catfish, so you can fish there with any boat except for the Inflatable Boat or Dinghy).

I level up using the FXP button instead of the fish button, and selecting the times that give me the most points per hour.

It would be like having Tessa's tutorial holding your hand through the whole game. As for other games, I wasn't really thinking of board games, as they mostly follow a pre-determined path, though even in something like Chess, you are told what the pieces do & the goal, but its up to you to work out your own strategy.  My comment was more about console or PC games, such as Tomb Raider, you know you have to find stuff, but you don`t get told where everything is & how to get to it.

I do agree with you that it would take the fun out of the game if we had our hands held all the way through, but when they implement a new part it would be nice to have some info on it.

To  RunsWivScissors,  I don't need my hand held.  I'm just asking for BASIC instructions.  What does what and how it does it.   That's not hand holding.  That opens the door to investigate some new thing.
If I want detailed cheat sheets I can come here and someone will have something like what Southern posted.
(Fantastic by the way, got that saved.  Thanks.)

I swear, for the longest time, I'd click a boat, the boat would change, NO further menus came up for him to go or send fishing.    Had I known that's what was suppose to happen I'd either post in bugs or contacted support.  Instead, I thought the whole thing was stupid and ignored it.

I have learned, EVERYTHING NEW this game comes up with, not to get too excited about for quite some time until all the bugs, glitches, poor math, hang ups and what not are found, and eventually fixed.
Right now I think the entire coop village thing is not worth it.   Though I still am adding supplies and upgrading buildings, so far I don't see how this helps us as farmers.  Adding stuff to the village only takes away from our crops.  Not seeing ANY profit in it at all.  Seems to only be about upgrading. And there are hundreds of levels. When is the profit in all this?   And all three of my coops have fizzled out on the whole coop challenge thing.   Lost a bunch, won a bunch, only to find out the prizes for winning are dismal at best it's like why bother with this at all?
So thankfully, only the occasional newbie clicks to start one.   (And if GG ever listened to requests made by others, and fixed it so only leaders or deputies could start a challenge, they would likely stop all together.  Probably why they left it open for anyone.   Only way they will get going at all after teams realize your prize for all that effort is nothing but a few bags of feed.)

even in something like Chess, you are told what the pieces do & the goal, but its up to you to work out your own strategy.  My comment was more about console or PC games, such as Tomb Raider, you know you have to find stuff, but you don`t get told where everything is & how to get to it.

Chess…. here is a great example.  You ARE TOLD what the pieces do.  And the goal, and the prize for capturing the king is winning the game.
Now mathematically speaking, there would be a fixed number of possible games BUT that number of variables is so huge, no human would be able to memorize every possible game path.  So that leaves only strategy.
Now you can learn just by playing.   Over and over and over…. eventually you will learn basic things, mostly by making mistakes.

OR…. you can get any number of books and learn chess strategies that way.

But again, HOW the pieces move, HOW the game itself works, is along the lines of basic instructions.
I can teach someone how the pieces move in less than 15 minutes.   How to play the game?  That is a whole other story.

BigFarm though, often times launches some brand new thing, with little to NO instructions at all.
So again, not looking for hand holding (or strategy tips) that can be left to the player to figure out, or for searching forums or googling cheat guides or talking with other players….
Just looking for how does this thing work, what does it do, what do I need to do in order to make it work?

    Like that.
    Make sense now?

If that is REALLY the only thing you are looking for Artmaker - BASIC Instructions - then lucky you!! Because it's all there, in the game!!!

How do you think we can figure out anything? It's all right there, in the info-ring of each building, and via the small I-icons (I of Info) in the different menus one can find all the info one needs to figure things out. Just search and read! And keep searching and reading! Millions of players can find it and are willing to read it and try things out, and thus figure things out ... even with all the bugs and glitches (we report them and until they are solved we can often find/work our ways around them) we can all play this game ... how do you think we figured this all out and can play the game???

And that's what most of us want - we really don't want a step-by-step tutorial "for a 8 year old" from GGS, it would take all the fun out of the game if everything would be spelled out to us in a KINDERGARTEN manner.

But if you are asking for BASIC instructions - well, they are all right there - and GGS always launches a Discussion Thread on the new subject, where we can talk about things. And where we can pose our questions if things appear too difficult for us to find/figure out ourselves. Most of the time Mod's answer our questions in that discussion thread ....

    ... so - again - it's all there! It's all about searching & reading!

You keep saying to read in the forums.  Go "figure things out."   I just want to play my happy little simple clickity click game in my spare time.  Not study for it.   There are better things to use my brain power on than this.    I do this to kill time, sometimes late at night when I really don't want to hunt and fish for how something works.

Now perhaps.. if people really DO like to search for how every new thing works, how about an optional button somewhere right after logging in.    SHOW instructions, or DO NOT SHOW instructions.    LIke right after the newspaper thingy.   Can't play until you get past that.
This way those who like to "figure it out" can.    Those who just want to play, can.

Look, there are a whole new lot of rewards for winning a coop challenge now.
I have not got a CLUE what any of them do.    How bad do I want one?
If I don't even know what it is, how it works, what it does,  well I haven't missed it thus far, I'd rather pick prizes I know I need.

I get that some players LIKE to get mysterious stuff tossed at them.  Fine.   Do the optional show me or don't show me thing then.   Because I for one, do NOT like coming to the forums to try and figure out every new thing (usually broken by the way, at least at first) this game comes out with.

It sure didn't start out this way back when I first signed on.

Lets go back to the chess example.
This game would be like dumping all the pieces in a pile, and saying go figure it out.

Or not.   again, other things to do.

At the fishing region, building a motorboat takes only 3 minutes, costs 12000 and gives 2000 FXP.  Demolishing it takes 1 minute 30 seconds and gives back 6000 dollars.  If you have a free building slot, you can easily get fishing xp.
