Horse Breeding & Training - Help, instructions & Tips

  • How come while my horses are training I can't race them or participate in challenges, but other players that see me come up can challenge my horses?
  • I trained a level 16 and a level 17 horse. Why should I merge them to only one new horse?

What is the advantage of breeding 2 horses and merging them, over breeding just one horse?

I have to use twice the horse shoes to breed the 2 horses.

    Can you explain please?

Also what is the better horse, one with one particular extreme or an overall that has equal trades?

After working with the horses for about a year now it has become clear that there is lot more to them. So to try and help. This will cover training your horses.
Once you have your first horse you will want to train it. Why? so when you breed it with an other you will get a better horse.
Here is where you will want to keep track of the parents of your horses, to be covered in "Horses - Horse Breeding"
It is up to you to decide what kind of horse you want. ie: Racing - Dressage & Show Jumping. Each training area is geared to these 3 disciplines, Strength - Agility & Endurance.
    Show Jumping train in Strength
    Dressage train in Agility
    Racing train in Endurance
    Training requires regular horseshoes (rh).
In the beginning you are asked to train a horse up to certain levels. You only have to train them in the area (strength, agility or endurance) suited for the type of horse you want. You can train your horse in the other areas if you want. It will take more rh & time.
It will take about 2400 rh & 2 training session each horse per training area to get your horse to level 14. Here is where you want to stop training that horse.
Once you are able to upgrade your stable to fit 2 horses. Buy another horse, this is part of the tasks assigned to the horse, train it the same as your first horse to level 14.
Honestly it is not worth the rh or the time to train them any higher at this point.
From here you can start breeding for a better horse.
    This may also help you

Now that you have 2 horses trained to level 14, minimum, it is time to start breeding.
Check & record the parents of each horse you want to breed.
Breed the 2 horses. Yes you will loose these 2 horses :(
Again take notes as to what breeding effects and breeding qualities you may have gotten with your new foal.
This will give you 1 foal, a first generation horse. * It will take less rh to train this horse.
     - Now get 2 new stock/generic horses and train them both to level 14 & breed them like mentioned above.
So now you have 2 foals, (1st gen)
Train these 2 horses to level 21 * Takes about 1400 rh & 1 training session each horse per training area.
Continue to buy 2 stock/generic horses, train to level 14, keep track of the parents & what effect & qualities you get with the foals as you go along. After a few horses, training & breeding you will start to figure out which parents pass on what.
Now you want as many stock/generic horses of those certain parents to continue to train & breed, train & breed to improve what ever type of horse you want.
I suggest to not over train your horses or train them pass level 21 until you have figured out what type of horse you want.
    This may help as well

When you first click on the stable to see your horse or horses. Just below the rename button is the "Family Tree" click on that to see who the parents are of your horse.
Now on the right hand side are 2 tabs, "Details" & "Breeding" click breeding to see what effect your horse has if any.
    This will also help https://bigfarmtips.wordpress.com/2015/03/21/horsebreeding-101/

Another clue as to what the parents of your horse can pass on to the foal.
I have found that "Patty" as a parent will pass on "Speed" as a breeding effect to its foal.
    "Sunny" will pass on "Agility"

So keeping track of the parents & what they pass on becomes more important as you continue to breed up for a better horse. Getting the same parents, we use Patty for this example, when you first click on the stable to see your horse or horses. Just below the rename button is the "Family Tree" click on that to see who the parents are of your horse. Now on the right hand side are 2 tabs, "Details" & "Breeding" click breeding to see what effect your horse has if any.
As to breeding effects I have found that only level 14 or better will pass on a breeding effect. I have also found that it seems to be based on levels of 7.
Example a level 14 horse could pass on 1 breeding effect.
A level 21 horse could pass on 2 breeding effects.
Not to sure about the next level but I believe it is either 28 or 35 & could pass on 3 breeding effects.
    and so on.
Have not made it that far yet but I will confirm once I've done it a couple of times to be sure.
  • Awesome. I have been doing it completely wrong, concentrating on snail-paced upgrading of one horse. I have a few other horses but I really haven't done much with them since the training shoes are so slow to come by. Getting them to level 14 is easy though.

If one has the time, it is possible to get 1 horse trained to level 14 in 24 hours in all 3 areas if needed or wanted. Realistically 2 to 3 days is doable. So with in a week you could have your first foal ready to start training.

I already have two at or above level 14, one a 29 and one 14. Also have a level 5 in the barn. Took forever to get horse # one to level 29. Should I save it and breed the level 5 (after upgrading to level 14) with the level 14 I already have? Is there any reason to keep the level 29?

I would hang on to it for now. You still maybe able to use it later. It will depend on what breeding enhancement and or effects it has to pass on. I would not breed a higher level horse with a lower level horse. If you breed a higher level horse, say 20 for a round number, with a low level horse, say 10 then you'll end up with a level 15 horse. The bigger the gap between the 2 the worst the out come level. Example a 40 with a 10 you'd get around a 25. Basically take the 2 levels add them together & divide by 2. You want them close if not the same level to breed.
Check my post Horse Breeding. I have posted what I have found so far in there. This post is help and warn other to not train a horse passed level 14 if it is a stock/generic horse.
Simply not worth the horseshoes & time.

So far I have discovered 2 types of parents.
What I'm going to call pure where the 2 parents are the same & mix where the 2 parents are different.
    So far . . .
Pure "Patty" horse will pass on Speed
A Pure "Sunny" horse will pass on Agility
A Mix "Liberty" & "Patty" horse will pass on Elegance
  • Good to know! Thanks!

  • My favorite way of training has become what’s known as “low-budget training”.  I train three horses at a time but only use the first increment (20 horseshoes) at a time.  The first increment yields the most possible training points (according to your facility levels) subsequent  increments will yield less training points than the first.  So this is the cheapest method of training in terms of horseshoes.

For this method to be fruitful, your stable and training facilities should be upgraded as high as possible.  You can read more on this training method at the link below:

    Awesome tip Tim thanks :)
  • I'm still working on it. Keeping my higher level horse anyway for the time-being because he competes better and I guess earns more golden shoes. I have one holding at level 14 and another working on getting to 14.

You may be on to some thing there Tim. I had another look through that horsebreeding-101.
What you said about low budge training got me thinking, we may be able to get to level 14 with less horseshoes than I have posted in the opening of the discussion. That number is based on the first training at 1980, the second at 400 bringing the horse just to level 14.

You will get there with less horseshoes, no doubt.  It's to slow for some, although it lets one train three horses at the same time. So it works for me.  I usually only train to level 12, and then breed.

  • Hello Stan,

I had filled the ship (full loading) so I should have the horseshoe bonus, but for 3-4 times I didn.t get them.
The loading bonus of the ship has grayed out.
What can I do. I need the horseshoes for training the horse.

    My game operates under Opera.
    Greeting Jeannette

    Suggestion:

Since we are making this horse stuff bigger and better, why not let Omar offer a horse training kit....There could be different levels depending on how much gold you want to spend.  They could offer competition horseshoes, regular horseshoes, maybe a foal...who knows for sure. But I think a horse training kit would be useful and something people would buy from Omar!

  • So, with the new levels for the horses going up to 200, will there be additional breeding effect slots, and if so, at what levels will any additional slots be available.  Will there be some way we can get this information or do we just have to discover it as we raise the training level of the horse?

I do believe you are right, as we discover these some one will post about them.

    timvalen,
You might already have the answer. However I believe the attributes you have in green are the new attributes that you have acquired from your breeding.
