does the farm lab cost more to make premium feed then it saves by using it?

ok first i want to say i am not the best at math so i could be wrong but the way i have figured it out it cost me more to produce premium chicken feed with the lab then it saves me to just use regular feed i know everyone will be different because of the happiness level of farms and books and other stuff so i will explain how i got to my conclusion and please let me know if i did something wrong ok so i can make 25 premium chicken feed for 10 dollars and i have a water tower level 2 so i can feed 3 chickens and have 1 bag left over it cost me 5 for each chicken so it cost me 15 dollars to start 3 chickens with regular feed i know what you are saying 15-10 means you are saving 5 dollars every time you make feed but then you have to add in the extra corn and the 3 extra feed it takes to make the chicken feed so pretty sure it takes me more then 5 dollars to make 19 corn and 3 bags of regular feed but please tell me if i am adding something wrong because right now i just do not see where it saves you money i mean yes great if you want the experience points but not to save money but i have only figured out corn not anything else yet so just let me know what you guys think thanks

I have done the calculations for my farm as well (given my happiness and so on), and for me it also costs more to use chicken premium feed than normal chicken feed. Things do change depending on the production of your buildings, the water tower, your level of laboratory and so on. In my case I have laboratory level 5, water tower on main farm level 3 and most production buildings just missing the architect. For me, all premium feed except cow one is more expensive than the normal feed. As a plus however you get extra xp and the premium feed storage is limitless so you have to consider also those variables (would you pay the price?). My current "gains" of using premium versus normal are -$0.23 dollars per chicken egg, $0 dollars per pig, +$0.46 per cow milk, -$4.18 per goat milk, and -$0.76 per donkey. So currently I am just transforming pig and cow feed into premium, chicken once in a while (specially now that the lab also produces drops with the weekly events).
At a certain point (when you have a higher level lab and your happiness in farm is low) it will be beneficial though.

You had me wondering myself for a minute there so I did my own calculations. Correct me if I'm wrong.
I run my MF in the red with a +467% Production cost, so it is well worth it to use premium chicken feed.

250 feed will feed 50 chickens on my farm. 5 feed per coop with a level 5 water tower.

A - I can make 250 premium chicken feed in the lab for $100
needed 280 chicken feed that cost me $3,528 to make
needed 180 corn that cost me $600 to plant
     100 + 3,528 + 600 = 4,228
add them all up and you get $4,228
so it cost me $4,228 to feed 50 chickens with premium feed.

B - I can make 250 chicken feed in my windmill for $3,150
It cost me $186 Production cost to feed 1 chicken with chicken feed.
     186 x 50 = $9,300
add the cost to make that chicken feed ($3,150)
    9,300 + 3,150 = 12,450
so it cost me $12,450 to feed 50 chickens with chicken feed.

    12,450 - 4,228 = $8,222
so I save myself $8,222 when I feed 50 chickens with premium chicken feed

i was wondering if it helped people that ran in the red better sense the cost for starting things would be so much higher seems stupid that the people that want to run there farms with the best happiness should not benefit from it too though

I will have to check how it saves on GF next then I'll let you know.  When you use anything premium there is no production cost and that is what saves me on the MF.

right i am not saving all premium feed costs i personal save 5 dollars when i use premium chicken feed i have won it just costs me more to make chicken premium feed then it saves me by using it but i also have a production costs of -75% so it is only costing me 5 dollars to feed the chickens compared to your 186 dollars

Finally got a chance to do calculations on premium goat feed @ijrosh (US1)

My GF has a -92% Production cost so it cost more to feed my goats premium goat feed.

250 feed will feed 50 goats on my farm. 5 feed per stable with a level 5 water tower.

A - I can make 250 premium goat feed in the lab for $100
needed 250 goat feed that cost me $50 to make
needed 920 dandelion that cost me $5,800 to plant
    100 + 50 + 5,800 = 5,950
add them all up and you get $5,950
so it cost me $5,950 to feed 50 goats with premium feed.

B - I can make 250 goat feed in my water mill for $50
needed 650 dandelion that cost me $4,000 to plant
It cost me $5 Production cost to feed 1 goat with goat feed.
     5 x 50 = $250
add the cost to make that 250 feed ($50)
add the cost to plant the 650 dandelion ($4,000)
    50 + 4,000 = 4,050
so it cost me $4,050 to feed 50 goats with goat feed.

    5,950 - 4,050 = $1,900
so it cost me $1,900 more when I feed 50 goats with premium goat feed.

There you have it. Due to the cost to plant crops on the GF it is not worth while to feed your animals premium feed, not to mention the extra time it takes to make the premium feed.

edit by me: The price to make the normal goat feed is low due to the fact that my happiness is so high.
A fellow member runs her GF in the red and said it cost her $3,230 to make 250 goat feed.

use premium feed if you run farm in red
use normal feed if you don't :)

i do not think it is the cost to plant that is the difference if i am reading what you wrote right you run your main farm in the red and your gourmet farm way in the green right? i think with the way it is now if you run your farm in the green it will cost you more to make and use premium feed then it would just feeding them regular but it would be nice if some other people with red and green farms would give theirs too

At +467% it cost me $ 3.55 to grow 1 corn.

    So to start 11 feed:  23 corn @ $ 3.55= $ 81.65.  Production cost $ 127.00.  Total $ 208.65.  Divide that by 11 it makes the cost for 1 feed $ 18.97.

    To start 25 premium feed:  27 feed @ $ 18.97= $ 512.19.  18 corn @ $ 3.55= $ 63.90.  Production cost of $ 10.00.  Total $ 586.09.  Divide by 25 makes the cost for 1 premium feed $ 23.44.

    With no water tower 10 regular feed x $ 18.97=$ 189.70 + start up cost of $ 186.00 =$ 375.70
    With no water 10 premium feed x $ 23.44= $ 234.40

Thanks so much, Lylu!!!-I forgot start cost.

     Am I overlooking something?
you forgot to factor in the cost of starting the chicken coop with the two types of feed.

Regular feed will have a high start cost due to +467% production cost on farm, Premium feed starts chicken coop for free.

If you have both main and gourmet as work farms, and this is quite profitable as long as your flower farm has high happiness (in the 90s preferably), then it is worth doing feeds for both main and gourmet. Definitely save a fortune in fertilizer for both farms, so worth getting a farm lab to at least level 6 and another one if you can to at least level 3.

I run my MF and GF in the red. MY FF production costs are at -94%. I use nothing but premium feed for 2 farms in the red and have no problem. I earn plenty.
I also have a level 12 lab on each farm

right but i do not think it is very fair for the people that want to run there farm in the positive to have to pay more for premium feed then it saves them i would even be fine if it costs the exat same but more is a wast of my time and money but i am glad it does save some people a lot of money i am just glade to know it was just not me doing math wrong lol i will just try and stay away from the farm lab and thankyou everyone who has commented sorry @Rusty Farmer (AU1) what do you mean by saves a fortune in fertilizer?

right @lambcake (US1) if you run your farm in the red it saves a whole lot of money but if you run your farm in the green it costs more to make premium feed then it costs to just use regular chicken feed is the problum

Well I am not a big fan of the lab but it does have a place while i was able to keep all my farms in nice -80's or higher before the land expansion i am unable to now even with alot of nice decos  and run in the plus on MF so in the future it may become more desireable to you to have at least one lab.

i really dont care with costs. when you feed ur cows it gives 3k XP, if you use normal you got no XP.
im feeding all my animals and with premium feed. (except ducks)

I convert my feeds mostly for the XP and the unlimited storage of premium feeds & fertilizer, but ALSO because during the (Weekly) events, the Lab gives event drops like coconuts, UFO parts, map pieces, etc. 3 labs across 3 farms adds up to some good event drops, especially with Premium Cow Feed running overnight. :)

    Hi,

I am so new to this game. There are many things I don't understand yet.
I am reading much materials, but simple question and answer are hard to find.

So the best thing about the Lab for me is once the feeding become premium then I don't need to worry about the storage. This is the great find for me.

I am on the beginning of level 45 now with 20 expansion MF. and I just build Lab 1 and quickly am upgrading to level 2. By reading this community board I also have the water tower (Level 3) since 4 days ago.

I follow the kind suggestion of [e-mail address removed] for the fishing tips too.

Only issues is how do I keep moving forward with not enough fertilizer to feed my orchard for the sales and the bakerly. I need to produce more dung badly. I am thinking add one more chicken coop (I have four now), and add pigsty (I just have one now). Off course there will be related more build as more worker needed, etc. Fo now I have been sitting almost two empty lots deciding what to build. I would really appreciate your opinion.

This is embarrassing question: What do you do with XP points & also FXP points ... these are just tell me where I am at..?

So I put the Lab on the GF and to my surprise, I was going to operate the Lab and found out the Level 1 is IS for chicken feed still. I was expect to see the Goat feed. I was wondering according to [email protected] 's MF Lab showing the beautiful list of Lab level up chart, it had GF's animal feeding listed on there.  So I can produce the premium feed of the Goat from MF.....? As is if we produce fertilizer on MF, I can use that fertilizer in GF. Did I just wasted the $90,000.00 plus GF's farm space.....Oh I am not so sure....

But for now I will keep the Lab on GF, since Southern (US1) suggested below.

I wanted to know more about having the Lab's in different Farm. My case is I have one in MF and another one in GF. I went back to  @CrazyBigfarm55 (US1)  lab page: http://crazybigfarm.tk/farm/buildings/laboratory.htm.
And there I found the comment below, I need to think about it, if I want to keep the lab in GF. Any suggestion?
    Thanks.

Hello and welcome to the game.

That is a good use for the laboratory. You can try to upgrade your barns and your farmhouse as your level improves to help with the storage of other items as well.

Yes. You will need quite a few stables to help produce dung for your silo. Upgrading your silo will also help a lot. If you are not sure what to build, it will depend on your activity. If you play a lot then you can build some more chicken coops, but if you don't play as much then you can build more cowsheds instead.

They help you unlock certain parts of the game. This will improve as you continue to play so you don't have to worry about it that much.

So I put the Lab on the GF and to my surprise, I was going to operate the Lab and found out the Level 1 is IS for chicken feed still. I was expect to see the Goat feed. The laboratory functions the same on each farm. The premium goat feed is unlocked when your laboratory reaches level 4. I have one on each of my farms but I have very few decorations on my first two farms to help with the increased production for events. Since the premium feed does not have any production costs, it helps save a lot of farm dollars when you don't have decorations on those farms. But I don't recommend doing this until you have a clearer idea of what you want to have on your farm.

well for dung better makes more cowshed and duck cuz thos good for milk egg and dung and good for events challenge hard work event
pig only good for 1 month event out of that event its waste of time and worker cuz its missin gives very low reput and they dont got any use in any other building if want dung dokeys give better  than pigs
and chickens good but thos 13 min is annoying
if ask me try to avoid using premium feeds they lvl you fast and put  you into hard challenge cuz lvls.
try to lvl up with xp you get from construction only if not in rush for lvling.
but  if wna lvl up fast using premium with xp booster you can win from fortune wheel is super fast and wining thos xp boost from fortune wheel are easy in INT1 idk about your server i have more than a week of boost hehe and im just back kinda week ago or 2 week
try to avoid getting much FXP  if can cuz its makes fishing hard  work event very hard.
higher fishing lvl unlock recipe in mermaid bay restaurant in flower farm.
but its also unlock harder fishing hard work event
lab gives event itmes but not always and not every event item just some i made it in flower farm to help me catch some bird for wedding but it was usleses for me
and if want more dung you better makes few lvl 1  cowshed or duck upgraded building dont add much dung and land in gurment farm are cheap so not hard  to makes few duck there

I would agree that cowsheds are overall better for events than chicken coops. I have 34 cowsheds compared to 2 duck coops to help with the cooperative hard worker event and the cooperative championships. They also are easier to harvest a few times a day compared to harvesting chicken coops multiple times. However, some players prefer the other benefits that the chicken coops have and that is why they usually have a lot of them.

It's generally not good to have heaps of pigstys, but it can be useful to have some because you can often harvest them to help with pig missions and to help with any pig tasks. I have 6 and often I win the mission just by harvesting them all and shelving. You can do something similar with donkey stables but I only have 2 because of the amount of time it takes to produce feed for them.

It's ok to do things that slow down your leveling up process as long as they do not affect you negatively. I personally wouldn't recommend it though since I tried to do that before and it slowed down my farm's progress by a bit.

Don't forget the WWC points you get for using it too.  I don't think the cost is of any concern once you have boats fishing at the dockyard.  It's the extra XP and unlimited storage that's really worth using it.  Especially when you go crazy on the goldfish rescue and need your mill to constantly grind flakes.  A nice stockpile prevents them animals from starvin.
