Big Farm - Visual Arts vs Economy Math - criticism
Now look at the new Candy Farm.
The background is magnificent. I bet GGS team put a lot of time painting it. The moving characters on the farm add some fun. However, the most part of my browser screen was used couple times - I examined my farm surroundings to find out I cannot make any money of it. In the meantime, the picture is loaded in full, wasting my broadband and time to switch farms' screens. :S I can live with that.
But the economy of the Candy farm was really bad this time - the Sugar mill was too slow and the voucher payouts are small to keep the horse part of the game running smoothly.
Check the forum - the fat guy on the Candy farm was forgotten in three days or less, nobody cares of him anymore. However, we have a lot of threads discussing the crippled Sugar mill, unbalanced economy of the Candy Farm, low vouchers payouts etc...
People were making guesses how exactly GGS has gone so wrong with the bottleneck at the sugar mill production. Majority suggested that the Alpaca feed production was mistakenly assigned to the Sugar mill, but it belongs to the Crushing mill. It looks more logical for me too - you have to crush the grass to make alpaca feed, don't you ?
Small novelties make me cry sometime ?( Say, I need to spend 1h30m of my Candy Factory time to run fruit pudding before starting another 6-hours candy batch while I am away of my computer. I have to click my mouse 30 times - THIRTY - to achieve it in 3-minutes production time increments. Give me a break ! It is some kind of perverted sense of fun !
Some may recall the old Gourmet farm long time ago. The production of cream there was really slow, and the best economical business solution was then to BUY cream, not to produce it to make more money. Well, this ok with me, life is not perfect, you have to outsource some production if somebody makes it cheaper than yourself.
GGS demolished the old Gourmet farm and made us rebuild the new one with different production process - probably for the good.
The WORST thing could happen to a businessman is to change the rules of the game while you are in the middle of setting it up. X(
That is what we had this time - in the middle of 30-days temporary farm event GGS dramatically changed the production parameters of the Sugar Mill.
If somebody applies the math, he/she could see that the optimal farm configuration had to be changed after this. Basically, your business should switch from marzipan to sugar ornaments production. Because of this, you need the different set of fields/orchards on your limited farm space, you have to demolish 4-level orchards that have become useless during the night of update and build other set of 4-level orchards.
This is very bad! ;( GGS please do not do it to us anymore
The question here is - is GGS in art design business so we are enjoying the beautiful landscapes, buildings, moving creatures
or
we are in Farm business, trying to make/sell a lot of food, to build the best and most effective farm structure, to donate to pigsties and castles, to breed best horses, to winning coop competitions ?
Of course spending a lot of gold all over the way ?
I suggest GGS put more efforts into balancing the economy of gameplay !
Would you agree ?

P.S. thank you Hardup and others for all the calculations. Without you I would have given up in despair.
Well its your farm. Not to put too fine a point on it, but its up to you to determine where you want your balance between Aesthetics and Production. Granted most of us choose production (Some to the point of being factory farms) more often than aesthetics, but that doesn't mean we have to. If Big Farm's aesthetics gives you pleasure, you should add more to your farm. If producing more gives you pleasure, you should add more. The final balance should reflect your own personal choices.
I do agree that GGS continues to add pressure to the Production side (See Kaiowas' comment about gold use), but that doesn't mean any given farmer has to succumb.

Hardup - You are mixing your frustration over the issues with the new Candy Farm with the asthetics of this game. The issue of the survey that asked in ONE question (out of many) about a players preference for graphics has NOTHING to do with the issues that occured during the first run of the Candy Farm.
The arguments you brought up in this post (and in your others I've read) about the production math for the Candy farm are valid. These were serious issues and I'm thankful to you for bringing them up. Your posts were tremendously helpful to myself & other players - and to helping GGS make needed changes.
I vehemently disagree with your final 'Farm Business' question; primarily because you are mixing issues, but also because I don't agree with your 'winning is the only thing' philosphy. There are other motivations for playing this game. One of the primary reasons I started to play (and continue to play) is the efforts of GGS to make this game esthetically appealing. There are plenty of farm games out there with silly, kindergarten style graphics. There are plenty of agresssive, combative games out there, including GoodGames Empire. I play this game because it is different.
Yakoska's comment applies to you as much as to Ned19. If all you want is a top-placed, factory farm, then go for it. Don't trash the exceptional graphics & beautiful esthetics this game has to offer which so many of us love. If you're still frustrusted at GGS about the Candy Farm then please address those issues specifically.
Personally, having worked in the IT field for 40 years, I understand that there are ALWAYS issues with the first release. I think GGS is doing a great job & will continue to make improvements with our helpful feedback.
I often know what I want to say, but not how to say it right in English .... and then somebody does it for me. Needless to say that I totally agree with Raven!
