As Cookiie said, some players BUY the crops to make the feed for their animals. Gardens take up a lot of space, so some players don't build them. Instead they use the space for other production.
When you visit another player, in the upper left corner you can see how many farms that player have.
If the player you visit have more farms than the main farm, you can visit this players other farms by clicking at the farms names (you may have to open the farm names menu)
