Suggestion: Censor OVERLOAD!

chicaachicaa Posts: 437
Okay, so I'm going to give you a play by play of why I think the censor within the messaging area is a bit too much. More often than not, you have to stop, copy, paste then re word your entire message you are sending out.. which takes too much time, and IMO is annoying as heck!!

I copied and pasted the link, in order to send out to my fellow teammates. Unfortunately, the censor is saying that there is an inappropriate word in the title, and would not allow me to send that message which was created by GGS. This shows that at times.. an innocent message is being censored.. all for the wrong reasons!!

GGS-Please, pretty please amend this silly censor. I understand the whole idea behind it, but it becomes such a nuisance.. Especially when you are trying to keep people updated..Thanks for hearing me out!

Dave the problem is the words lights experience... the censor is censoring..well the letters highlighted..

Thanks for looking into this, I was just commenting that I feel personally that the censor is a bit--overbearing.. thats all.

I understand the censor issue, but i don't get why a co-op would need to provide a link for their members when there is a direct link to the forum already provided right there at the top of the game page above their farms. The first thing they see when taken to the forum is the Official Announcement thread at the top. I guess i just don't get it or missing something.

I think many players do never have visit the forum, and many players do not visit forum every day.

We have seen tons of examples where people complain for things they don't know how to works, even it have been explained in official annonce (they never have seen and read), the information annoncement about how to breeding horses is a very good example for that... people still complain for that they loose the parent horse when they breed their horses.

Try to READ the Official Discussion Thread - there this topic has already been tackled and Nafaru gives the solution here: http://en.board.goodgamestudios.com/bigfarm/showthread.php?134193-Update-February-26th-The-Northern-lights-experience-is-near!-Discussion&p=1617261&viewfull=1#post1617261

And I have to agree with Brian. Over and over again we found that a lot players do not go to the forum, some may not trust themselves to go to other screens outside the play-screen, some are just not that handy in operating the available software and others just don't bother looking at all the icons in their screen nor try them out.

AND: whén they finally found the forum - the biggest culprit seems to be: READING.
Nowadays proper reading appears to be a virtue in itself. We have seen thousands of players ask the same question over and over again, while the answer is to be found only 1-2 posts above theirs. Also thousands of players do start a new thread over and over again, because of not wanting to bother to search for the (already!) existing thread.

So - Yes - to a lot of us leaders/deputies of coops it appeared to be necessary to provide our coop-members with the link. Why not help them when they can't find it themselves? ^^

Hi Jiesta, I think there is several reasons why people post the same questions in forum without reading previously. One of them is the almost not working search engine. I remember I tried to find anything about architect. I typed the word Architect in search engine and it gave me no result. While obviously the topic about this guy exists so why it didn't found ANYTHING?

Another reason why it sometimes looks like people asking the same question while the answer is just above their post, it's because topics are being moved to the right place by moderators. So if someone started topic about the same thing the question and answer will be moved later the right topic. BUT I'm not sure if it helps this player (often new on forum) to find the answer to his/her question. Perhaps these players should be messaged in private messages that their topic was moved? The forum is big and has so many threads that it's really difficult sometimes to find required info. Especially for someone who is new to internet forums at all.

Makes you laugh at the , erm what can i call them. person that put the wording there in the first place, why did they not check things first, make sure that everything would work, but dont be silly that is too simple.

Honestly, i would not put up with that stuff. Just like co-op's have clear expectations for members to be active and stay informed of co-op announcements everyday, i would equally expect them to do the same when it comes to forum announcements and especially the announcement discussion thread where many common questions are answered.

If someone feels safe enough to find the game, sign up for it and then sign up for a co-op...yet doesn't feel safe enough to click a link in the game to go to the games forum..that's like saying i feel safe enough to buy food and cook it....but it might not be safe when it comes time to clean it up so i will leave it for someone else to do.

Yeah i admit i couldn't tolerate the excuses you guys do because the first time someone gave an excuse for not reading the forums and therefore lost on what is going on.. my response would be..what would you do if everybody in the co-op took the same position and didn't read the forum announcements/discussions?

....and this is why i am a solo player ;( ^^

This post was meant to be a discussion about CENSOR OVERLOAD.. and about how silly at times the censor can be.. How annoying it is when you can't do what your trying to accomplish bc of it, and so on and so forth. It's not a discussion about your personal views of why I shouldn't send a link to my teammates. Some of us that play this game are team players, some of here are not. Before you go bad-mouthing someone for giving their friend a helping hand.. I suggest you take a step back, and refer back to my original message which is about Censor Overload!! :) Not about why your clearly NOT a team player or that you are one!

O.K., back on topic. I have long advocated that the word filter in messages be scrapped. It only serves to give players a false sense of security. Anyone with half a brain who wants to send an inappropriate message can circumvent the word filter easily by.....(Don't wanna give anyone ideas). But us long time players KNOW how ridiculous the Censor can be.

Sure do FarmerJohn. My thoughts behind posting this was to show that GGS too, typed something that the censor didn't like. So if GGS even can make a mistake causing the censor to not allow you to send a message, than what does that say for the rest of us farmers?? Please edit this censor, its causing me CENSOR OVERLOAD!! lol ^^

chicaa, you might like to try the same experiment that I and one of my deputies conducted. For over an hour, he and I were able to send the most horrible and disgusting messages imaginable to one another by just a simple "tweaking" of the language. We both laughed our a**es off! Oh yeah, asterisks work just fine! 8o LOL

LOL!!! Oh, there are lots of ways to circumvent the censor, I cuss in dutch if needed ;) My coop has a very nice vocabulary of dutch words right now, but most are not the nicest :)

But simple things, like not being able to say: "Negotiation skills is the next research," because skill contains kill, and talking about grapes and peacocks...
In Empire you also cannot say kill, and that's a wárgame! You are supposed to kill your enemies' troops there. Luckily the letterlimit is less tight there, so you can also eradicate the enemy :)

OMG.. Way too funny FarmerJohn & Gwendolen!! My point exactly.. when you can't type Negotiation Skills is up next bc of the the word kill.. it seems GGS ran into the same problem that we all do on a constant basis.. Rather than amend the censor.. they just circumvented it by telling us another way to post the link without having the title included in it!! How disappointing!8|

Ok i don't know what you are talking about in regards to me bad mouthing you..i was speaking on how i myself would not be able to be as tolerate of members that did not see it as a priority to stay informed when it came to the official forum announcements and discussions about those announcements and instead left it to everybody else to keep them informed. Now if you want to say i have a negative view on that type of behavior or say i am bad mouthing it, then yes, you would be correct and I stand by my comments. But to say i was bad mouthing anything other then that behavior is absolutely incorrect.

I think you need to take a step back and look at your own original message which was about censorship and included how it was effecting your ability to send a link to your co-op members. This is what prompted me to ask why it was necessary to send a link given one is already provided in the game that will take you straight to the forum.

    Oh well...moving along.

MOOOovvvin right along here, see this is why I don't post in this forum. You (meaning me) make a simple comment and people jump down your throat about why things aren't done the way they think you should. What works for some doesn't work for everyone else--who cares anyway!! Just thought it was annoying and thought it was cute as heck that GGS had the same problem as we all do constantly.. Geeshe!

examples of words that make or don't make the list.

We played around and figured out the word "sodomy" can be used in PMing, did not test on a horse because don't want one locked in with that name or to spend 2,000 gold to fix.

At the same time a horse can't be named "Pick Me"

Let me know if you figure out the logic there

You make it sound like GGS are saints, but it does show how stupid some are when they give us words that are blocked by the censor. then of course it brings up the other excuse that GGS use, " we have to test stuff first " well clearly they did not test this. which then brings back the " we have to test stuff first" is that just a lie ? YES i say it is, along with a whole host of words I could use.
