An Alternative Farm Design Tool: "Anno Designer"

Gambit8Gambit8 Posts: 42
Hello all,

I wanted to share with you all an alternative to oAISAo4's Redecoration Tool. Lovely as it is, there are a few things missing, such as having the buildings snap-to-grid, and being able to save layouts.

As it seems oAISAo4 is no longer playing BigFarm, it's unlikely their tool will be updated anymore. :( But never fear, because Anno Designer is here! Well actually, it's been around for a very long time. Originally created for the Anno series of games, it turns out this utility is great for designing BigFarms, too!

This utility features:
  • Completely user-defined buildings (size, colours, labels)
  • Saving and Loading multiple layouts
  • Space and efficiency metrics
  • Snap-to-grid for easy placement
  • Resizable window

Download & Info <-- Click

For a more in-depth guide, including install instructions and useful tips, I've written a full guide over at Uncle Willy's Farming Community.

P.S. I did not have anything to do with the making of this utility. I'm just letting people know it exists. :)

Ta for now~

    Heya Gambit,

First of all, thank you very much for posting this! I instantly added it to our website as well. A really great member in our co-op has made a new file with presets, so all buildings are available in a preset edition as well! All you need to do is download it here and replace the presets.json file in your folder by it: http://www.mediafire.com/download/be6662jb1k9u0ct/presets.json

Please instantly notify me should I have managed to upload the wrong file and there are no Big Farm presents in it!

Edit: do note that the old preset.json file will be gone if you overwrite it and the new file does not include the old presets. You can add a number to it to make sure you can keep them both and can switch or maybe you can keep a duplicate programme folder? I'm sure you'll figure something out if you want to keep the old file ^^

That's awesome, Larino! And I'm thrilled that it's been put up at Larino's Corner. I've made use of this tool for many years (for the Anno games), I'm sure people here will find it useful too. :)

Will be trying it on my windows computer, it looks good but not suitable for a mac user. The last decoration tool was web based so that way everybody could opened it. Can you make that happen or should i just start my windows computer? Thanks for sharing it with us.

    Thanks for sharing!

I must be doing something wrong though. I have downloaded it but when I try to open AnnoDesigner.exe nothing happens. Any suggestions?

Have you unzipped it yet? You get a zip file when you download. And you can open the folder to look inside, but probably any interactive things do not work in a zip file without unzipping it.

What Larino said, but it does sometimes take a few seconds to load up anyway.

Regarding Mac support, there doesn't seem to be a Mac version, unfortunately. The Anno games are traditionally Windows based. Mac users will always have oAISAo4's tool, though!
