Interesting observation, Brian. I'm thinking maybe you've got it. My highest level horse (level 63) has strength 3, and none of my other horses have any strength. So that may very well be the answer!

Ooops! Wish I'd gotten a screen shot. I looked at it over and over to be sure.

Yesterday I was offered two horses that were identical in every way except that one had a green banner and cost about 10,000 shoes and 3000 gold more.

    BV 7 - attributes 7/7/7
    BQ 0
    no breeding effects

So what makes one of them merit a green banner? I see absolutely nothing special about either horse!

And I just thought that green banners were tailored to be bred with a specific player horse for a nearly certain BQ increase, but it seems it was just the GGS rushed thing.

Update: I'm getting my previous 56 horse that dropped to 44 back to 55 at least. It appears I may surpass the 56 after all but it has only been going up 3 levels at a time which is why I wondered if my horse would be better or worse.

When your horse went from 56 to 44, how many breeding effects did the 44 have? Did it still have 4 or drop back down to 3?

It has 3 breeding effects. I don't know if it ever had 4.

Ahh, it was trained to 55 from below 50 before, rather than born over 50?...OK no problem, thankies ^^

Breeding value? You just train your horses! If you meant breeding quality:

a lot of people have been asking this already. If you had read up about it you would know that it's rather random and all you can really do is keep breeding your horses.
Or you could always buy a quality 2 horse from the horse market when there is one for sale... :)

Before you start breeding horse, it can be a very good idead first to read the official horse breeding instructructions from GGS.

    1. The first very important thing you may note before you begin to breeding horses: When you breed 2 horses, you loose both the parent horses!

So if you for some non-strategic reasons want to keep your first horse, do not use that horse to breeding.

But there is none good strategic reasons for keeping the first horse, because that horse can never be so good as later generation horse can be.

    2. For best training as cheap as possible: Throw the slider so high it can come without going into the intensive area.
If you not want to train that horse again in that diciplin, turn the slider backward until the training only gives enough to the highest possible level. - it's waste of horseshoes to train a horse so high that it only need e.g. 10 point more for next level, if you not want to train the horse to higher levels.

    3. When breeding 2 horses, only breed horse which are close to each other in levels. e.g. breed 2 level 12 horses or 2 level 25 horses.
    - If you e.g. breed a level 20 horse with a level 10 horse you get a horse not so good as the best of the parents.

    4. As the first breeding you do, it's best to breed 2 horses with a level at minimum as 10.
    - The higher level the parents have, the better will the new horse be.

    5. it's a good idea to have a horse stable at minimum level 3, so you have room enough for 3 horses. Then you have room for your best horse waiting for another good horse to be breed with. The other 2 rooms you now can use to train 2 new horse up so they can be breeded to a better horse you can train up to the waiting horse level.
Try to go for a Family Tree like this:
    Attachment not found.

    6. If you want to increase the speed of your horse traning and breeding program:
When it's possible, give the ship higher loads of greenhouse fruits than the minimum
    - For this, it's a good idea to use greenhouse humus, especiality on the most expensive fruits.
Use the special press in your garage to make greenhouse humus.

That's what I just now have in my memory, maybe more will come later...

yes but how do you actually get a horse because i'am on level 12 and only just started

    please can i have one.

I bred 2 lvl 11 horses.. however the foal does not get a reduction in training costs. It still costs 20 horseshoes. As far as I heard you Always get this reduction.... An Error?

The minimum amount of horseshoes are always 20. The reduction is that it requires less horseshoes to train one full level. And the higher level your horse have the more horseshoes it takes to train it one level higher.

You will, automatically. Can't remember the exact level when your stables are unlocked but you can't do much with the horses before you have gathered enough training horseshoes.
The first horse comes with the stable. The rest you'll have to buy for golden horseshoes.

Does anyone know why I am not getting a 'discount' on the cost of training on horses I am breeding? I bred a breeding value 23 horse with a 21 and it didn't have any -% and is costing the same to train as it's parents?? Any advice would be appreciated.

The -% just showh how off si your horse from the ideal training path. If it shows 0%, than it is o.k, you have a good horse and your are using minimal amount of horseshoes for its training. When that number starts to grow (or better fall, as it is negative), it means that your horse is too weak for that level and that it uses more horseshoes than needed. This is a time to breed it again.

So having a 0% reduction cost is a good thing. That simple means that there is nothing to reduce as your horse is already ideal for training.

Ok I want to breed my two new level 10 horses. It says If I breed the newer horse with the older ( original ) horse which is ranked 12 : THe breeding effect will be - 44 % on Agility, Endurance & Strength. IS this means I 'll save - 44 % on training costs ? When I select to breed the 2 new horses with level 10 : It indicates a - 8 % sign for Agility , Strength & Endurance. What is the - % mean

Its like happiness. Where if you are happy, your production costs are -8%.. or -80% depending how happy. The higher the negative percentage. The better.

Well actually, it's supposed to reflect how far your new horse have strayed from the optimal training course. The higher level your horse is the more horse shoes it requires to gain another level. Just as with gaining experience on your farm. To make optimal use of your horse shoes while training your horse you shouldn't stray too far from the training course. That means breeding your horses very often.

So are you saying you think a lower -% is better? Because I disagree.

It's not so much what I think but what Nafaru has written earlier, in another thread:
    Nafaru wrote: »

The % displayed only indicates how much your current horse has already veered off the optimal breeding path and how much better off you would be after breeding. In general we would like you to breed often in order to not waste too many training points.

This also means that a big % is actually not so much of a good thing to achieve, as you have to invest a lot more training points to begin with in order to get to higher percentages.

Hence I would advise you to breed rather early (not too early, though, as soon as % are shown is a good time) and only with 2 horses of roughly the same breeding value in order to not lose any progress.

I hope it's at least a little more clear now. :)

    Regards,
    Steffi

All I can say is, horses with a -42% in the stat blocks, take a lot more effort to train than a horse with a -92% in them.

I wish I hadn't read Steffi's words, because they confuse the issue. I do not understand at all why the better the bred horses, the more I'm supposed to lose. It seems to me Yakoska is right, but maybe it's a curve again - it's "like happiness" in that the middle ground (which you can't quite know when you're at) is the best. But you lose most attained levels when breeding a higher with lower level horses, so the "less loss" in percentage is ridiculous?

According To Nafaru : This also means that a big % is actually not so much of a good thing to achieve, as you have to invest a lot more training points to begin with in order to get to higher percentages.

So Do I believe in what Nafaru is saying or should I take the Negative 41 % Effect on training point costs.
    Is - 8 % better or - 41 %

    Thanks

To be honest, I think you'll just have to go with your gut feeling on this one. It's been hard to figure out exactly which is the best way.
I think that if you have a lot of training horseshoes and no problem getting more on a regular basis then go ahead and yank those % up!

On the other hand, if you're low on training horseshoes and find that they're hard to come by but you have tons of golden horseshoes lying around then it could be an idea to only train your horses a few levels (never going in to intensive training) and breeding them pretty much after each training session if they've gained a level or two. But you'd have to buy A LOT of horses..
