New Bakery
Should I bake just one item and max that in inventory, or keep a variety of different baked goods on hand?
I have started with the almond muffins and apple turnovers because the almonds and apples are the quickest to replace what I take from inventory. At least, that's the way it seems on my farms.
But I noticed that the captain of the ship frequently asks for the fruit cake with cream. So, I intend for that to be my goal after I have a good stock of these baked goods. That captain is relentless about asking for things I don't have access to, like baked goods before I even had a bakery. His last visit, he decided large quantities of items were needed. Now I have to make up for the huge dent he made in my inventory and hope he won't obsess on those same items before I get the numbers back up.
I look forward to working the farms to make a lot of money and fill the ship each time it docks, before the next level up. Now that I have all the main things set, I think.
Comments
The ship is leaving in less than an hour and no way I could get all the ingredients for the fruit cake and cream gathered and baking done in time. No full ship this time. So, I guess it's better to get some of the smaller stuff baked and stocked first. Maybe I'll have some ready tomorrow night to fill the ship. You'll probably hear me over here throwing a party.
The second you get a task to get a Flower farm he used to do the same thing with Lavender & shop products, but he doesn`t seem to want Essence anymore since he started collecting them exotic fruits.
I have been putting the produce in the bakery inventory, while making sure the regular inventory doesn't get down below half. When it is close to time for the ship to arrive, I try to get the stock as close to full as I can. If I fill the ship, it will be a gain in money, but much less time to let the inventory recover.
If nothing else, it is keeping me thinking. And I am constantly having to change what I thought was a good plan.
On the plus side, I've been keeping fertilizer at over 100, so I never have to worry about my orchards going red Zzz on me. It would be nice to get all stock up high, along with the baked items. But I think it is going to take me a while to get this right and stop losing money. Ship is to arrive again in a half hour. Hope I can fill it up without depleting anything.
I think next time, I will wait until the ship is about to depart before giving him what he asks for. I was thinking I could fill the large orders and wait until the last moment to fill the odd items, like the small bit of corn he asked for.
When the flower farm is available, I think I will wait to get it. I was a bit frustrated when I first got the gourmet farm, until I got the hang of it. But the bakery adds so much more to it that in hindsight, I should have waited to get the gourmet farm started. I don't want to make the same mistakes with the flower farm. I think there is a push to build up the farm faster than I like, because the captain wanting things I don't have the stuff to make yet. It adds more challenge, but I think I could do with more sleep. Made a few "I'm too sleepy to do this" mistakes when I set my alarm to get stuff harvested for the ship.
Hoping now to just build up some money for a while before the next level up. Level 39 hit me by surprise last night as I didn't expect it until today. Too busy checking inventory and seeing how much time until the captain's arrival. I'm avoiding any building upgrades for today so I can focus on building up the dollars as the money is growing slower than I expected after adding the bakery. But, I'm not baking anything else until the captain asks for it. The baked stuff doesn't expire?
In my backery I prepare mostly apple turnovers during day and fruitcake trough the night. If I run out of apples of eggs, I run muffins.
I made too many apple turnovers. Captain still hasn't asked for any of my baked goods, but I've been almost drooling thinking about making some turnovers for myself. That bakery might not be so good for my grocery budget.
Also bake as many goodies as possible, to keep the barns full, have the bakery inventory to the max. When you harvest products that CAN be transferred to the bakery, do it, before you consider selling off excess. That way you will never lack anything. And you can keep your bakery running 24/7, making a profit by selling of the excess (only and not more) of the baked goods.
This will enable you to advance in achievements related to bakery too!
Also, with this strategy you will never have a problem supplying the ship with anything. Except exotic fruits, but that's a different topic.
Another good thing about having a full supply of baked goods is that you can sell of a small amount if you need some emergency dollars. Fruitcakes are very profitable.
Good luck!!
Can you upgrade the peach orchard that you already have?
I halted all the animal production for a few hours last night. I upgraded the goat stable and decided I could come up with a better strategy while I was down one milk and dung producer. I kept the orchards, nursery, mill and fields going and used the special seeds from the nursery I've been hoarding to get feeds and harvests full steam ahead. I gave the goats a full day's worth of feed. Then several successive runs of the donkey and duck feeds in place before starting the animal production. Today, playing the gourmet farm is much easier. I'm not forever calculating and accidently leaving one stable/coop in the red Zzz's. I only have to pay attention to the mill and fields to keep the feed stock up. No more, "Oops, should have made the duck feed before the donkey feed" mistakes. They all have only blue Zzz's!
I am only 240 points away from a level up to 40. I hope it happens after I finish the fairy tale event. My gourmet farm needs more attention of a level up upgrading splurge. I started making more of the fruit cake and cream. I have a good supply of the others, but I hesitated making more cake when the captain only asked for a small amount. That cake must be like a brick after baking for eight hours. I'm wondering if I can have the baked goods maxed by the weekend.
