New Bakery

I finally added a bakery to my gourmet farm. I am only at level 38.

Should I bake just one item and max that in inventory, or keep a variety of different baked goods on hand?

I have started with the almond muffins and apple turnovers because the almonds and apples are the quickest to replace what I take from inventory. At least, that's the way it seems on my farms.

But I noticed that the captain of the ship frequently asks for the fruit cake with cream. So, I intend for that to be my goal after I have a good stock of these baked goods. That captain is relentless about asking for things I don't have access to, like baked goods before I even had a bakery. His last visit, he decided large quantities of items were needed. Now I have to make up for the huge dent he made in my inventory and hope he won't obsess on those same items before I get the numbers back up.

I look forward to working the farms to make a lot of money and fill the ship each time it docks, before the next level up. Now that I have all the main things set, I think.

I finally baked two 2 large batches of the fruit cream cake, after the Captain had asked for it 2 or 3 times in a row (and yes, he was requesting baked goods before I was up and running with the bakery). When I finally had 2 full production cycles of the cakes, he wasn't interested. Now today he has visited twice, and I could easily supply his small order (like 42 cakes each time). At least I'll have some in reserve because these pastries can have a long shelf life. I made sure I had at least a full run of each item, not knowing what's going to be requested. When you get a surplus, they make a good income.

I ran each item on rotation and maxed them out. Now I run a batch only when I ship half of them out.

Now that I have the bakery, the chances of me filling the ship are greater. It's a good feeling to scramble to get the numbers up to refill the ship multiple times in a row. Sometimes, I even set my alarm in the middle of the night so I get up and finish filling the ship when something is done being processed. Although I sometimes forget why I set my alarm also, so I load the game and stare a while before I figure it out. Then I figure it out, get it done, and go back to sleep.

The ship is leaving in less than an hour and no way I could get all the ingredients for the fruit cake and cream gathered and baking done in time. No full ship this time. So, I guess it's better to get some of the smaller stuff baked and stocked first. Maybe I'll have some ready tomorrow night to fill the ship. You'll probably hear me over here throwing a party.

If you struggle to keep supplies of cake Captain Barnacle will continue to ask for cake & also keep stealing all your peaches so that you can`t make the cakes....Cos he is a mean mean man!!!

The second you get a task to get a Flower farm he used to do the same thing with Lavender & shop products, but he doesn`t seem to want Essence anymore since he started collecting them exotic fruits.

I think its good idea to try fully stock barn with fruit cake and cream Ship just asks for small amounts and if have full barn and in hurry for quick cash for upgrade which can cost millions you have cake worth a few 100,000s Dont do what I did sell the lot:(then have captain asking for some so have to buy back at 10xs the price

It takes a lot of ingredients for that fruit cake and cream, especially the milk. I think I'll just try to fill half the ship for a while, until I get the bakery inventory up. Getting tired of setting my alarm in the middle of the night. It'll be a loss for a while. But, not filling the ship gives me a few extra hours of time to build inventory. And keep making money with the eggs and corn until the bakery is well on its way to being productive.

i have done both the harvesting as soon as i make them and letting everything accumulate, but the best thing is to have around 400 of every item in the bakery on hand then make them according to which ones you use

So the captain never asks for the other baked goods? Only the fruit cake with cream and over half of your fruit at a time?

I have been putting the produce in the bakery inventory, while making sure the regular inventory doesn't get down below half. When it is close to time for the ship to arrive, I try to get the stock as close to full as I can. If I fill the ship, it will be a gain in money, but much less time to let the inventory recover.

If nothing else, it is keeping me thinking. And I am constantly having to change what I thought was a good plan.

On the plus side, I've been keeping fertilizer at over 100, so I never have to worry about my orchards going red Zzz on me. It would be nice to get all stock up high, along with the baked items. But I think it is going to take me a while to get this right and stop losing money. Ship is to arrive again in a half hour. Hope I can fill it up without depleting anything.

The captain is greedy and picky. I finally got the fruit cake and cream baked. Just one batch, for now. The next time the ship docked, he didn't want any of the cake. But he took more than half of most of my fruit. I filled the ship twice in a row, so not having a lot of time in between to build up inventory.

I think next time, I will wait until the ship is about to depart before giving him what he asks for. I was thinking I could fill the large orders and wait until the last moment to fill the odd items, like the small bit of corn he asked for.

When the flower farm is available, I think I will wait to get it. I was a bit frustrated when I first got the gourmet farm, until I got the hang of it. But the bakery adds so much more to it that in hindsight, I should have waited to get the gourmet farm started. I don't want to make the same mistakes with the flower farm. I think there is a push to build up the farm faster than I like, because the captain wanting things I don't have the stuff to make yet. It adds more challenge, but I think I could do with more sleep. Made a few "I'm too sleepy to do this" mistakes when I set my alarm to get stuff harvested for the ship.

Hoping now to just build up some money for a while before the next level up. Level 39 hit me by surprise last night as I didn't expect it until today. Too busy checking inventory and seeing how much time until the captain's arrival. I'm avoiding any building upgrades for today so I can focus on building up the dollars as the money is growing slower than I expected after adding the bakery. But, I'm not baking anything else until the captain asks for it. The baked stuff doesn't expire?

No baked goods keep forever Apple turnovers make most if at computer to collect on time,if not almold recipe (forgot what it is) I collect enough fruit to make fruit cake every couple of days As you progress earning money gets easier and if needed you earn enough to buy for boat. When doing collect apples in 1 of events I put that 1st because of time limits

Hmmm. My capitan never asked me for any other backery item besides fruitcake. I have all three famrs (maybe he asks for other items before flowerfarm is opened).

In my backery I prepare mostly apple turnovers during day and fruitcake trough the night. If I run out of apples of eggs, I run muffins.

The captain was in a good mood I guess, because he didn't ask for so much that I couldn't replenish. So, I got the ship loaded three times in a row. Just enough of a breather to start making the bakery inventory look decent and the money is going up and up. Nice kaching! I like that so I can afford a few building upgrades with the next level up. Looking ahead at upgrade prices, that is really going to keep me busy accumulating a few millions.

I made too many apple turnovers. Captain still hasn't asked for any of my baked goods, but I've been almost drooling thinking about making some turnovers for myself. That bakery might not be so good for my grocery budget.

When he does think only 46 at time low number What he is bad at is asking for 1000s of apples when you have the donate 1000s of apples tasks At first I bought but number of apples wanting donating gets higher as you get promoted would cost to much. I wanted ornament with its happiness so let the ship go - apples I hardly fill ship because do not have the fruits anymore

Just keep your barn full to the max, and if you produce excess just sell it off as you gather/harvest.

Also bake as many goodies as possible, to keep the barns full, have the bakery inventory to the max. When you harvest products that CAN be transferred to the bakery, do it, before you consider selling off excess. That way you will never lack anything. And you can keep your bakery running 24/7, making a profit by selling of the excess (only and not more) of the baked goods.
This will enable you to advance in achievements related to bakery too!

Also, with this strategy you will never have a problem supplying the ship with anything. Except exotic fruits, but that's a different topic.

Another good thing about having a full supply of baked goods is that you can sell of a small amount if you need some emergency dollars. Fruitcakes are very profitable.

This was helpful to hear everyone's take on the bakery production. Mordna's advice sounds like a good strategy, keep everything in stock and sell excess. Cheshi, the baked goods are very, very, profitable when you need to make quick cash. (BTW, the flower farm start up is a breeze compared to the gourmet farm...floral shop selling bouquets of wildflowers and excess wheat and pasta gift baskets at level 1). I have learned from recent ship visits not to feel pressured to load up produce when I need it first for the bakery. Learned that the hard way when I "gave away" about 500 apples to ship as the third item, no dollars paid, but received approx 50 horsehoes. I've observed that I either fill the ship with 2 items or 4, but not that grey area of 3 items, because that 3rd item will not be paid in $, just shoes. This morning, just giving the captain some wheat in exchange for 5 shoes, no $, and he can float away when his time is up.

Trick is to keep your stock maxed out and your items maxed out and, yes, sell off excess when you "harvest" product from the bakery. That way you never run out of items for yourself OR the Captain and you make farm cash at the same time for your upgrades!!
    Good luck!!

I can see that it will be a struggle to get the bakery to be maxed because that captain asks for almost every bit of the cherries and peaches that is harvested. I countered with buying another cherry orchard which just finished buildiing. Methinks he might just ask for double, but at least a bit more will go into bakery supplies. If I had the farm space, I'd add another peach orchard also. Fertilizer is steady and rising, not dropping below 200. So, I can certainly support the extra fruit trees in both the main farm and the gourmet. But, without the space for the additional peach orchard, I have to wait until level 43 to expand. I'm at level 39. Four levels of the captain taking all my peaches. Arggh. Where's Hook when I need 'im to blast this greedy cap'n out o' the water!

Can you upgrade the peach orchard that you already have?

I have eggs maxed in the bakery. And milk will be maxed after a couple more big harvests from the cows. I've been doing the fairy tale event, so I am just starting on the breadcrumbs. I wasn't sure if I would have to completely ignore the captain and concentrate on the event. I've only completed one event, ever, so I'd really like to complete another. But it looks like I can still grow my bakery while doing the event. Found some tips in another thread for the event which lead me to find the space for another apple orchard in my gourmet farm. That made me so excited when that orchard was finished building. I can't upgrade the peach orchard until level 41.

I halted all the animal production for a few hours last night. I upgraded the goat stable and decided I could come up with a better strategy while I was down one milk and dung producer. I kept the orchards, nursery, mill and fields going and used the special seeds from the nursery I've been hoarding to get feeds and harvests full steam ahead. I gave the goats a full day's worth of feed. Then several successive runs of the donkey and duck feeds in place before starting the animal production. Today, playing the gourmet farm is much easier. I'm not forever calculating and accidently leaving one stable/coop in the red Zzz's. I only have to pay attention to the mill and fields to keep the feed stock up. No more, "Oops, should have made the duck feed before the donkey feed" mistakes. They all have only blue Zzz's!

I am only 240 points away from a level up to 40. I hope it happens after I finish the fairy tale event. My gourmet farm needs more attention of a level up upgrading splurge. I started making more of the fruit cake and cream. I have a good supply of the others, but I hesitated making more cake when the captain only asked for a small amount. That cake must be like a brick after baking for eight hours. I'm wondering if I can have the baked goods maxed by the weekend.
