One is (relatively) quick and the other is slow but uses far less ingredients
You can make a choice at the outset and only have one of each as suits your needs or have both and choose which is better at the time of production
Or if you are developed enough to over produce have both running constantly for the XP and sell the excess
Such strategy and time management is what Big Farming is all about. The 'correct' decision will be different for each farmer
So the answer to the question "Is there any reason (other than completing tasks) to have a Composter and/or Silo on every farm?" is yes for some Farmers and no for others
