Short Story about Puppy Mills

Stop Puppy Mills

My crime? Being born. I trod the surface of my wire mesh cage, my feet numb and aching. I'm starved with hunger and my thirst unquenchable.I'm not a fine breed of dog anymore, but a wild and un-groomed beast. I'm crammed in a small cage with six other dogs, all yelping with pain and for freedom.Except for one. He...Died. I get my foot caught on the wire of my cage, and want to chew it off, but I knew it wasn't worth it. I pull with what was left of my strength and my paw is bleeding. I want to escape but there is no way out. I know this is my last hour of treacherous and miserable life, not that I cared. What people think of puppy mills isn't my awful life, but better. Even at my age of five I haven't seen the light of day... and never will. But I know that you can help other dogs see it... And with my last gasping breath I sigh painfully and close my eyes, letting all my cares go as I go into an eternal sleep, where I can be at peace without worrying.

I just had to put that out there. There are a lot of dogs in puppy mills as I speak.
