do higher level houses make the workers happier?

do higher level houses make the workers happier? I was looking and trying to figure it out but it shows - numbers in red. what does that mean? Upgrading increases happiness right?

No!!◄ As a matter of fact, the more you upgrade your houses, the more workers you will have on the farm; the lower your happiness goes. Which will cause you to have to buy more decorations to up the happiness quotient.

You want to remain in the green zone, as far to the right as you possibly can.

So, IMO, only upgrade the houses when you need the workers or if it is a task.

    Hope this helps!! Happy Farming!!

If you have house level 3, then you need decoration with happines 60+, for that house.
It's better to have 2 level 1 houses, than 1 level 3, then you will save 20 happines, from highest regular event decoration (39). Bigger happines just event decorations, or with gold.

EXCEPT that if you have two houses instead of one, you'll have 25 fewer spaces for something else to be placed. You pay for the space.

Personally, I prefer the space, so I've been upgrading before building anew, that way I can get maximum revenue for the space I have.

Yes true is yours: if you have 2 houses with 10 workes and 1 decoration = -35x-35x+39=-31
And if you have 1 house level 3 and 2 decorations = -91x+39x+39x=-13

Not to mention the production lost by not having room for an orchard or cowshed. It's a complicated decision that can have a lot of right answers, depending on what's more important to you.

Higher level Houses mean more Happiness. You will have more free workers which means more people can eat and sleep. The Red means when you upgrade your houses and you don`t have enough gold to skip the construction is what it means.

    Thank you

I hate to break it to you, but higher level houses mean LESS happiness. More decorations mean more happiness. You need the metre to be in the green and you can NOT reach that by upgrading houses ; )

To add to Larinos answer: red and green area on the top right have nothing to do with gold. The amount of gold can be seen in the top left corner, just below the amout of dollars. The red-green area is just showing happines. When you build or upgrade house, arrow moves to the left (less happines) and when you build decoration (upgrade gate or fence, feed the dog...) it moves to the right (more happines).

It is true that in the real life a new or upgraded house usually means happier people, but it is not so in this game.

Actually, it makes perfect sense. I mean, who's happier? The people in a little duplex, only sharing their house with a couple other people, or a huge crowd crammed into one apartment building? Smaller houses with less people to share it with is always going to win. Of course, it's still basically an apartment since there's ten people. Man, no wonder these guys are so unhappy!

And just think, a fully upgrade level 5 house (which is basically a two story house that fits in the same area as that one story house for 10 people) has 30 workers per house . . . no wonder they are willing to work all hours of the day and spend many of their off hours in the decoration tower. :) And the farmhouse may look impressive at level 7 but it is still holding 34 workers . . .

Exactly! I feel really sorry for these guys. Especially the ones condemned to the factor farms. Not even nice gardens to make them happy! But at least they have huge walls to make them feel safe from the...wait, from what? What are the walls even for? Are there goblins living in the mine or do the trees attack at night?

Haven't you paid attention to Old Farmer George's stories? :O Wild boars roam the neighbourhood and they are frickin' scary! They always try to get onto the farm to spook the crap out of everybody and feast on the crops :3

Ah, pixel people. When will you ever learn? Live in cities and the wild boars never attack. All the rich guys have guns and go out hunting.

In cities its the "wild people" we need to beware of, not usually wild animals!!

Hmm- I think I'm understanding Kari's question in different way.
Any House you build on your farm will take up the land space of 5x5 and automatically reduce Happiness. You can NOT build 20 level 1 houses, because they would take-up to much space. Ideally you want to build min of houses, but get them all upgraded to max levels.
Level 1 house, has 10 workers & reduces "happy" meter by -35
level 3 house, has 20 workers & reduces "happy" by -91
However, if I build 2 houses , lvl1 , that's -70 and I'm taking up 5x10 of land space, in one of the 5x5 land spots, I could have a nice Event deco with +60 to +80 "happy" plus. Which would bring me to almost positive value in total (depending on the plus "happy" number of the deco).
Now , if you asking - Should you build new houses or upgrade the once you have, the answer is simple - build as little houses as possible & existing one should be upgraded to it's highest level (pace it, as you need workers).

Thank you. Plus two story houses give you protection from the wild animals better right??? I mean how hard can the three pigs huff and puff my level 3- lev 5 house? Besides I don't think the big bad wolf has oppasable thumbs so even if he were to break in the bottom floor... you got plenty of time to get out your window upstairs with your door locked right? I need a night light i'm scared

I hear tell that Archie is a shifty one. Last three farms he did? The walls were made of gingerbread! He just painted them like wood!

Now the neighborhood kids are fat and homeless.

    LOL
Only the fence and the gate gives protection for wild animals. - they don't take up building area on your farm, even they give some happines points. :)

hahahahaa - good story with the wolf Kari ;) if it's that dark I would say the wolf will trip on your valuable telescope deco or get abducted by aliens from your farm, before he huffs & puffs your house down.

You got the idea, use less space, upgrade houses you got & build decorations to stay in green meter !! good luck
