Third Server suggestion
1) What were they thinking?
2) Don't they actually test these things before they go live?
3) The people at GGS must not play the game!
4) Its worse then before! I hate it! etc etc
I have a somewhat simple solution.
In previous RTS games and some MMPORG's they have had a server dedicated to only beta testers. The rules were usually that you had to be a certain level (but not always), account had to be in good standing (no flags for harassment, cheating etc).
The way it usually worked was when you first logged into the new server it would have a drop down menu that listed what servers you were on and name/lvl. You would choose which account you wanted to play on the beta testing server.
Once you logged in your farms would be exactly the same as the account you chose to duplicate on the test server. Usually you would have either unlimited funds or the costs to build would be very small. The time to build/upgrade little to none as well.
By doing this, and having actual players testing the game, you got a much better finished product by the time it made it to live servers. Players could quickly find problems, glitches, security issues, etc because they knew what they were looking for. If something didnt work right , they would know because they were experienced players.
I'm not sure what system is in place currently for beta testing but It isnt working. From what I was told there are a few "in house" beta testers hired off the street for 30 pounds/hour. No experience with the game they are testing required. For what they are going to earn by the time they have actually played the game enough to know what looks good, what doesnt, you could probably save by adding some bandwidth for a 3rd server. If you have to, limit the access initially to a certain level, make it invite only. Go by seniority. Just do something.
Does anyone like this idea? GGS? Please feel free to comment, good or bad. Thanks for reading, Maze1on1 US-1, Bar-K
